Introduction 2.1 A saint is usually defined as a Christian who has shown heroic virtue in some respect. A ‘saint’, is a Christian whom the Church knows and agrees has lived and died faithfully. A ‘canonized’ saint, recognised by the Church, does not differ really from many unknown saints except in recognition and therefore, the feast of All Saints’ Day (November 1st) honours not only the canonized saints, but the countless men and women of faith who died in obscurity. 2.2 The Roman Catholic Church has an elaborate, formal, canonization process for investigating claims of sanctity, yet for the Eastern Orthodox and Anglican Catholic Churches the process of canonization is much less formal.

    St. Piran Catholic.net Saint Piran or Pyran (Cornish: Peran, Latin: Piranus), died c. 480, was a 5th-century Cornish abbot and saint, supposedly of Irish origin. He is the patron saint of tin- miners, and is also generally regarded as the patron saint of Cornwall, although Saint Michael and Saint Petroc also have some claim to this title. Traditionally, St. Piran has been identified as the Irish saint Ciarán of Saigir. Saint Piran's Flag, a white cross on a black background, is used as a symbol of Cornwall. Saint Piran's Day falls on March 5. Suggested Irish origins Piran is the most famous of all the saints said to have come to Cornwall from Ireland.By at least the 13th century, since Brittonic languages and Goidelic languages regularly alternate p and k sounds, he had become identified as the Irish Saint Ciarán of Saigir who founded the monastery at Seir-Kieran in County Offaly. The 14th century Life of Saint Piran, probably written at Exeter Cathedral, is a complete copy of an earlier Middle Irish life of Saint Ciarán of Saighir, with different parentage and a different ending that takes into account Piran's works in Cornwall, and especially details of his death and the movements of his Cornish shrine; thus "excising the passages which speak of his burial at Saighir" (Doble). However, there is no shrine to him in Ireland. 5 March is the traditional feast day of both St Ciarán of Saighir and St Piran. However the Calendar of Launceston Church records an alternative date of 18 November for the latter.[6] In Perranzabuloe parish Perran Feast is traditionally celebrated on the last Monday in October.

On Trinity Sunday we will celebrate God as one God in three Persons. This understanding is based on how we see God at work in the world. We trust in a God who is: ‘God the Father, source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist; God the Son, who took our human nature, died for us and rose again and God the Holy Spirit, who gives life to the people of God and makes Christ known in the world’ (CofE Baptism Service). The Trinity provides a model for Christian community. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit relate together in a love relationship of mutual accountability with one another.

    LEGENDS PACK FOR VISIT WALES WORKSHOP, Margam Day ST CADOG Saint Cadoc was born about 497 and became Abbot of Llancarfan Abbey which he founded circa 518. It became famous as a centre of learning. Cadoc was a son of Gwynllyw, King of Gwynllwg in South Wales, who was a brother of Saint Petroc, but a robber chieftain who led a band of three hundred. His mother, Gwladys was the daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog who had been abducted in a raid, during which - according to Vita Cadoci (the Life of Cadog) written shortly before 1086 by Lifris of Llancarfan - King Arthur acted as peacemaker. Cadoc's father later stole a cow from the Irish monk, St. Tathyw (or Tathai), and, when the monk came courageously to demand its return, the King decided in return to surrender his son to his care. Cadoc was raised at Caerwent in Monmouthshire by Tathyw, who later became a hermit. In adulthood, Cadoc refused to take charge of his father's army, preferring to fight for Christ instead. He proselytized over a large area of Wales and Brittany. He built a church and monastery at (or near) Llancarfan. According to legend two stags came forward and Cadoc was able to yoke them to a cart to help with the building works. As a result, Cadoc is often pictured with a stag, and the current church at Llancarfan boasts a weathervane in the shape of one; the Welsh name Lancarfan means Church of the Stags. While the ancient lives of St Cadoc identify him as the founder of Llancarfan, other sources suggest that the college and monastery were founded at the time St Germanus visited Wales in A.D.
