FINAL VERSION: MARCH 2019 Introduction There is widespread, continuing community concern about road and pedestrian safety with respect to the A536 as it passes through Gawsworth and roads such as Dark Lane which intersect with the A536. Highways safety is the responsibility of Cheshire East Council but Gawsworth Parish Council considers that it has a responsibility to represent residents and to liaise with Cheshire East Council, the police and others with the aim of aiding such improvements as are possible to reduce the risk to road users and pedestrians in Gawsworth. The Parish Council can help by contributing our local knowledge and views to the safety improvement plan and to specific projects. We can propose, with the support of the Ward Councillor, minor projects for funding through Area Highways Group funds and some, limited cost complimentary measures might be funded by the Parish Council. We can also promote openness and information sharing, help prioritise and coordinate different options and lobby for safety measures to be undertaken in good time and in line with service commitments. This paper is based on information available to Gawsworth Parish Council. We hope it will act as a basis for productive interactions between Gawsworth Parish Council, Cheshire East Council and adjoining Parish and Town Councils to bring about road safety improvements with respect to the A536 through Gawsworth and adjoining roads, and that these will be undertaken with all reasonable speed.

Applicant: A M Bell (Properties) Ltd Expiry Date: 30-Apr-2020 SUMMARY As an employment proposal, the development will create a number of new jobs (approximately 21) within the surrounding area. In isolation, this is a material consideration that attracts moderate weight. The proposal also raises no significant concerns that cannot be mitigated through the use of planning conditions regarding the impact upon the living conditions of nearby properties, design and impact upon the character of the area, and the impact upon the wider Peak Fringe Local Landscape Designation Area (formerly Area of Special County Value). Neutral weight is therefore given to these matters. Given the rural location of the site, vehicular access is along relatively quiet rural lanes, which do not immediately appear suitable for commercial traffic including HGVs. However, the lower site has an established employment use, which involves HGV vehicle movements to and from the site. There is also evidence of HGVs (or certainly their trailers) accessing the upper site. The view of the Highways Authority is that there would be no significant impact upon the local highway network arising from the proposed development, given the existing use of the site.

    The Breretons of Cheshire Page 1 of 68 The Breretons of Cheshire, England Researched and Written by Faye Brereton-Goodwin, Ontario, Canada [email protected] Copyright © Faye Brereton-Goodwin 2001 (February 2018 revision) The Breretons of Cheshire Page 2 of 68 This history is part of a larger 2002 document, titled ‘In Search of My Ancestors” which I dedicated to my father Albert Lionel (Bert) Brereton who served in the Navy, during the First World War and as a Sergeant in the 3rd Canadian Infantry, Princess Patricia's Regiment, during the Second World War. He returned to Canada in 1945, on a hospital ship and died when I was eight years of age. Unable to learn about my Brereton ancestors from my father or his parents over the years I searched for links to the past; at times travelling to Brereton sites. My journey has been both fun and rewarding. On our first trip to England, in 1993, my husband Bob and I visited Royal Leamington Spa in England and saw the home of my Great Aunt Ina Glass at 2 Clarendon Crescent (my Grandmother Brereton- Smallwood also resided there until her death at the age of 101 years). We also visited Brereton Hall in Cheshire, England and met with the owners of the property Mary and Derrick Creigh. For many years, under their ownership Brereton Hall had functioned as a private girl’s school. However, by the 1990’s much updating was needed to continue as a school and the decision was made to return the hall to its original function, as a private residence.

Edition 6 – Friday 11th October 2019 Dear Parents/Carers Last night, I had the pleasure of being invited to Gawsworth St James’ Church to attend the installation th of the newFriday rector, 9 Reverend September Colin 2016Wilson, to meet his wife Rachel and welcome them to the village of behalf of the school family. It was a lovely service and we are looking forward to getting to know them much better. On Wednesday evening, we had the Friends of Gawsworth AGM and the school thanked Kerry Webb and Suzanne Ransom for their five years at the helm of our fantastic PTA. During that time, through their vision, energy and enthusiasm, Kerry and Suzanne have helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the school with your support. These efforts have benefitted every child in the school and will continue to do so. My thanks this week go to this tremendous duo! The initiative to produce a Parish Plan came under the Government’s scheme to encourage local planning to be based on an understanding of what the residents of an area really want. After a public meeting a volunteer Steering Group came together and designed a substantial “issues” questionnaire which gave every individual in Gawsworth the chance to say what they thought about the parish and to put forward ideas for improvements.
