The Gawsworth Guardian ‘Learning Together To Achieve Our Best’ Aspiration.Equality.Innovation.Pride.Respect. Edition 6 – Friday 11th October 2019 Dear Parents/Carers Last night, I had the pleasure of being invited to Gawsworth St James’ Church to attend the installation th of the newFriday rector, 9 Reverend September Colin 2016Wilson, to meet his wife Rachel and welcome them to the village of behalf of the school family. It was a lovely service and we are looking forward to getting to know them much better. On Wednesday evening, we had the Friends of Gawsworth AGM and the school thanked Kerry Webb and Suzanne Ransom for their five years at the helm of our fantastic PTA. During that time, through their vision, energy and enthusiasm, Kerry and Suzanne have helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the school with your support. These efforts have benefitted every child in the school and will continue to do so. My thanks this week go to this tremendous duo! At the AGM, the following positions were confirmed/elected: •Joint Chair – Julia Garcia McMahon/Hayley Bagshaw – nominated by Kerry Webb and seconded by Alison Lomas •Treasurer – Rachel Tandy – nominated by Alison Lomas and seconded by Kerry Webb •Joint Vice Chair – Helen Bradley/Shelley Broughton – nominated by Suzanne Ransom and seconded by Kerry Webb •Secretary – Sara Clarke – nominated by Anne-Marie Hassan-Plumb and seconded by Suzanne Ransom •200 club – Jo Taylor •Rose Queen parade – Gillian Reid/Emma Galleymore/Kate Millward We wish our new chairs, vice chairs and treasurer every success in their roles and I am sure that they are going to be a formidable team! French Residential 2021 – Parent Meeting As per our diary dates sent out at the beginning of term, we wish to remind you that we are holding a meeting for all Year 5 parents / carers to provide information on the French Residential on offer to their children in 2021. This will take place at 6.30pm on Monday 21st October in the Year 6 classroom. We hope to see you all there at this informative meeting. EYFS Phonics and Learning Journey Workshop At 6.30pm on Monday 21st October, Mrs Jepson and Mrs Poole will be holding an information evening for all Reception parents about the way in which we teach phonics and reading as well as introducing parents to the interactive learning journeys. It is vital that parents of children in Reception attend this evening in order to have access to the on-line diaries. Late Arrival/Collection of Pupils There are a number of children who are being dropped off at school late and not collected on time after the end of lessons or extra-curricular clubs. Children must be at school and on-time for the start of lessons at 0855 and be collected from school in a punctual manner. If children do not attend school on-time, they miss part of their learning and do not make the same progress as their peers. If children are not collected on-time, teachers and staff are unable to attend meetings on-time or carry out their work and preparation for the next day. We really appreciate your assistance in this matter. Individual Pupil School Photos Our school photographer will be visiting us on Monday 21st October to take individual and sibling pupil photos which you will be able to buy at a later date. Parking We are still receiving reports about families parking on pavements, zig-zag lines and in driveways. We are very grateful for your support in parking considerately in the village. Please do try to avoid driving on Longbutts Lane in the morning or at the end of the school day as it is too congested. It is much more preferable to park at the village hall or considerately (without blocking any access) on Church Lane and walk to the school from there. Macclesfield Forest Year 3 and 4 had interesting and exciting visits to Macclesfield Forest and the Rover Bollin this week as part of their geography fieldwork. They took part in lots of fieldwork activities and enjoyed their explorationFriday of the9th Septemberarea. They have 2016 even come back with some fabulous vocabulary as well as memories! Well done and thank you to all our parent helpers. Sports News Our Year 5 and 6 football teams had a very wet and muddy outing at Mottram St Andrew Primary School on Monday and played in flabbergasting conditions. Year 6 played with some great skills and team work despite their loss (they were still smiling!) and Year 5 won their match 2:4. Well done to both teams for battling through the weather and the mud! The Y5/6 Cross Country team were back in action in the Macclesfield and District Competition. The girls came a magnificent first again and Katy Farmer was first overall. The boys also enjoyed their meet and we saw several improved placings. Well done to the runners! The school netball team hosted St John’s, Macclesfield on Tuesday. They were completely incredible in their techniques, style of play and performance, winning the match 21:4. Mrs Platt was overwhelmed! .
