Welcome, or, welcome back to Åland, the most western part of the Finnish archipelago, consisting of more than 6500 islands and sker- ries. Åland is famous for its rocks, the red granite rock archipelago is unique for the Åland Islands. This week though, the rocks we focus on is not the red granite but the curling stones in Åland Hotels Curling centre in Eckerö. The third edition of PAF Masters is the only Women’s World Curling Tour event in Scandinavia this season and also the season opener for many teams. Ålands curlingklubb is proud to, once again, welcome some of the best female curling teams in the world to one of the most beautiful places in the world. The young demographic touch of the competitor field witness the great future of our sport. The junior women’s and men’s Champions will earn the right to represent Scotland at the World Junior Championships, where Scotland has medalled consecutively every year since 2004 - in 2016 Scotland’s junior men won gold, becoming World Junior Curling Champions. Curl Aberdeen is again the venue for the national event, it has hosted the Scottish Curling Junior Championships since 2010 and we are delighted to be back. Curl Aberdeen will also host the World Junior Curling Championships in 2018, as part of the exciting programme of four international curling events that Scotland is playing host to, the first of which - the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships - took place at intu Braehead in November 2016.
