BUCK Colonel Michael Buck is the commander, AFROTC Det 847, Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas. He is responsible for recruiting, training, motivating, and educating Air Force officer candidates. He is the senior Air Force officer on the campus with dual responsibilities as detachment commander and Chairman of the Department of Aerospace Studies with rank of full professor. Colonel Buck is responsible for determining who is accepted, trained, and ultimately commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. Colonel Buck entered the Air Force in 1981 after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy. His career includes operational tours in the F-111 and A-10 including deployments to Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM/SOUTHERN WATCH. He has held a variety of positions including F-111 Operational Test and Evaluation and Air Staff expert on Air Force Worldwide Munitions Requirements while at the Pentagon. He culminated his operational career flying the A-10 while serving as Commander, 51st Operations Support Squadron. After a year in residence at Air War College, he returned to the Pentagon for tours in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and then on the Joint Staff. Prior to assuming his current position, Colonel Buck was the Executive Assistant for the Director, Joint Staff. A highly selective position, he was responsible for directing all facets of critical staff actions for 1500+ personnel across eight Joint Staff directorates, the Chairman's staff, the Services, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Secretary of Defense and interagency organizations.
