There is a map of Ramona’s neighborhood on the wall of Hollywood Library, 4040 NE Tillamook St. There are two terracotta busts of Ramona in the children’s area of Gresham Library, 385 NW Miller Ave., Gresham. Walk south (right) on NE 41st Ave. 2 Rite Aid store, corner of NE 41st Ave. and Hancock St. This was the site of Colossal Market in her books. Optional Hollywood Theater: Walk one more block to NE Sandy Blvd. to see the theater, then return to NE 41st Ave. and Hancock St. 3 Old Hollywood Library, 3930 NE Hancock St. (home to Fleur de Lis Bakery) Turn west (right) on NE Hancock St. and walk by the site of the old Hollywood Library that Beverly Cleary visited. 4 One of Beverly Cleary’s childhood homes, 3340 NE Hancock St. Continue walking west on NE Hancock St. by one of Beverly Cleary’s child- hood homes in Portland. 5 Beverly Cleary School, Fernwood Campus and QFC, corner of NE 33rd Ave. and Hancock St. The southwest corner of NE 33rd Ave. and Hancock St. is the QFC parking lot, where Ramona got her boots stuck in the mud in Ramona the Pest; on the northwest corner is Beverly Cleary School, Fernwood Campus, which she called Glenwood in her books. 6 Grant Park Statue Garden Turn north (right) on NE 33rd Ave., cross NE U.S. Grant Pl., enter Grant Park. Walking along the path just west of the track, head north to the statues of Ramona, Henry and Ribsy. The Statue Garden was dedicated in 1995. The statues were created by Portland artist Lee Hunt. 7 Beverly Cleary School, Hollyrood Campus Walk northeast, passing through the playground (where Beezus waxed the slides to make them faster), then passing through the lawn north of U.S. Grant High School (where Henry dug for nightcrawlers in Henry Huggins.) Beverly went to high school here. Follow the path, past the basketball courts, to the left (north) out of the park and onto NE 35th Pl. 8 One of Beverly Cleary’s childhood homes, 2924 NE 37th Ave. Turn east (right) onto NE Hollyrood Ct., then north (left) onto NE 36th Ave. Walk to NE Stanton St. Turn east (right) onto NE Stanton St., walk one block to NE 37th Ave. Turn north (left) onto NE 37th Ave. to another one of Beverly Cleary’s childhood homes in Portland. 9 Klickitat Street Continue north on NE 37th Ave. to NE Klickitat St., where the Quimby’s fictional home was.
