Block II Training After completing this programme, participants will be able to: Outcomes for Gardener  Carry out nursery management: identification of various Course plants/shrubs/trees, nursery bed preparation, vegetative propagation of plants, potting and repotting, transplanting, cultural operations  Carry out pest and disease management: identification of pest and diseases, their control measures, spraying of chemicals  Carry out tree plantation and maintenance of trees: use of garden tools and equipment, irrigation, integrated nutrient management, pruning and training  Carry out maintenance of garden: various designs and features of garden, laying of lawn/turfs, topiary, pathways, pergolas, ground covers etc, proper disposal of waste, safe working practices  Carry out packing and forwarding of planting material from nursery to distant places: selection of packaging materials, proper packing and labelling, etc.

Gardener 3

Block I: This is a training block done in the Instructor-Led training approach, with theory and practical sessions. The training sessions may be held at training provider’s premises.

Block II: This is a training block done at the Employer location. This is largely hands-on with inputs/ guidance provided by the on-site mentors and supervisors. The employer may conduct instructor-led sessions in classrooms/ workshops and may also look at new age – technology- based performance support tools for additional support.

Trainer should be Subject Matter Expert. 3 Minimum Diploma Educational Qualifications 4a Domain Certified for Job Role: “Gardener” mapped to QP: “AGR/Q0801, v1.0”. Certification Minimum accepted score is 80%.

4b Platform Certified for the Job Role: “Trainer”, mapped to the Qualification Pack: Certification “MEP/Q0102”. Minimum accepted score is 80%

1. Criteria for assessment for each Qualification Pack will be created by the Sector Skill Council. Each Performance Criteria (PC) will be assigned marks proportional to its importance in NOS. SSC will also lay down proportion of marks for Theory and Skills Practical for each PC.

After completion of apprenticeship training the candidates will have wide career choices available with them in the gardening industry. A candidate after completing apprenticeship can be skilled horizontally in segments such as gardening, nursery raising, and landscaping and can finally move vertically to a supervisory role.

The candidates after their tenure as apprentice may do any of the following:

a. Heritage Gardener- AGR/Q0810: The apprentice will be capable of maintenance and conservation of formal gardens apart from managing staffs and visitors. b. Garden/Nursery Supervisor –: The apprentice will can undertake supervisory activities for Garden and Nursery (this QP is yet to be developed) c. Hydroponics Technician- AGR/Q0808: The apprentice will can produce good quality crops under the hydroponics system. d. Florist- AGR/Q0703: The apprentice will can create beautiful arrangements and designs of flowers and sell them to customers. e. Vermicompost Producer- AGR/Q1203: The apprentice will can produce good quality vermicompost and take this up as a commercial activity.

Employment Opportunities

Apart from the above-mentioned avenues, the apprentice can always aspire to be employed in one of the following:

1. Business/commercial/industrial units, embassies/consulates, hotels, resorts, parks, farmhouses, housing societies, and homes/residences in India: The apprentice may be employed with the biggest players of the trades and deliver quality work/service. 2. Gardening services as freelancer: The apprentice may provide freelancing services to customers. They may also form a group and deliver gardening services on a contractual basis to customers directly. 3.
