Holiday Revue As always, the annual Holiday Revue drew a large crowd and was enjoyed by all. Each class worked hard on their part in the program and came through with flying colors. Several individuals also treated us to memorable performances! Staff members Linda Anderson-Sessions and Karen Wiley danced to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and two-year-old Mae Shaughnessy sang “Deck the Halls” with her mother Margaret and brother Frankie. A previously unknown talent, Frank Kieninger, husband of 3’s teacher Lois (“Mrs. K”), did a very dramatic reading of “The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything” while the 3’s acted out the story. He followed this up with a delightful rendering of “Oh, Holy Night.” Once again, we are grateful to Dewey Brown who posed as Santa, bringing that magical presence to Two-year-old Mae sings “Deck the delight the children of all ages. Teacher/Staff Appreciation Dinner Our dedicated teachers and staff work hard to provide high quality childcare and education to all our children. Each year board members and parents “pass the hat” to treat the teachers and staff to a relaxing and fun-filled evening out. Their December 12 celebration was held at J. Peters Restaurant in Anderson, where they enjoyed dinner, sang and danced, and shared in a gift exchange. Devoted as the teachers and staff are to the children, it is a treat for them to enjoy the adult company of one another from time to time. Thank you staff and teachers for all you do! Volunteer Help Benefits All We are extremely fortunate to have a variety of community service groups volunteering at our cen- ter. It’s hard to overstate the benefits to our children who delight in the attention paid them by these high school and university students who not only model “helping others,” but also enthusiastically spend time with them! Daniel High School’s Interact Club continues to come every second Friday from 3:30-5:00 to clean classrooms and sleeping mats and play with the children. Ten Clemson University APO members helped clean mats, took out recycling items, and played on the playground on a recent February after- noon. Twenty Delta Sigma Theta members helped one Saturday morning adding tumble safe mulch on the playground and cleaning the tricycle track. And one February afternoon six members of the CU Delta Sigma Theta students help Clemson University Women’s Club Volleyball team helped with classroom bulletin boards and played maintain the children’s playground. with the children in each class. MLK Day Volunteers The Center was closed January 21 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but that didn’t mean there weren’t things going on. Twenty Clemson students were doing community service from 8:30-11:30. Working inside, this industrious group cleaned classroom shelves and toys, organized storage cabinets, wiped down books in the library, and cleaned the teacher workroom. Outside they added tumble-safe mulch to the playground, sand to the sandbox, and cleaned off the tricycle track with the blower. We appreciate the willingness of these hard-working students to help and are pleased with all they accomplished. Several of them plan to help again soon. Many thanks!
