SAFE AT-HOME ACTIVITIES FOR OUR ATHLETES/FAMILIES Click on Title for Video Link H-O-R-S-E: Items needed – large bowl, bucket or barrel, rolled up sock or a soft style ball How to play – Player one starts. Place the bucket somewhere in the room and try to throw the ball into it. If you make it, player 2 must throw it in also from the same spot. If they miss, they get a letter (“H”). If they make it, then you can move the bucket to a different spot and try again. If player 1 misses, then player 2 may move the bucket and take the lead. Game continues until one player has spelled out the entire word H-O-R-S-E (or P-I-G) Note – Be creative. Before shooting, stipulate that the ball must bounce first or hit the wall first. Try to make your shots as tricky as possible. Around the World: Items needed – large bowl, bucket or barrel, rolled up sock or a soft style ball How to play – Place the bucket in a central location and select 6-8 “cities” from around the room. Starting at a chosen “city”, try to throw the ball into the bucket. If it goes in, move to the next spot. If you miss, then the next player starts. At the remaining spots you can take two shots. If you make it, you move to the next spot. If you miss the first shot you have 2 choices. 1) You can take the second shot but if you miss you have to return to the starting city on your next turn. 2) You can “pass” and stay on that city until your next turn. See which player can make it all the way around the world first. Fastest Hands:

Items needed – some type of larger ball (, soccer ball, etc.) or a small couch pillow, a stopwatch or timer How to play – Stand in the of the room (make sure there is nothing around you that can be knocked over and broken). Set the timer for 30 seconds. Take the ball and bring it around your waist as many times in the 30 seconds as possible. This can be repeated multiple times only spinning the ball around your head, ankles and also in a figure 8 between your legs. Compete against a friend or family member and see who can do more.

Toss and Catch: Items needed – some type of larger ball (basketball, soccer ball, etc.) or a small couch pillow, a stopwatch or timer How to play: Lay on your back in the center of the room (make sure there is nothing around you that can be knocked over and broken). Set the timer for 30 seconds. Holding the ball in one hand, toss it into the air and then catch it again with one hand. Much like when we shoot in the gym, try to follow through with your toss and spin the ball off your fingertips. Start tossing it lightly so it only goes a couple of inches in the air and work your way up. See how high you can toss it and still catch it with one hand. Challenge a friend and see who can make more tosses/catches in 30 seconds. Note – For an added challenge, try using your opposite hand

Table Top Basketball: Items needed – 2 cups, a coin, a table, marking tape 2 players sit across from each other at a table (sit across the narrow way not end to end). With tape make a line 1 foot in front of each player. Now place a cup directly in front of each player and have them pull their chest up against the table. One at a time have them put the coin between the tips of their thumbs and spread their fingers out along the tape line closest to them. With an upward motion, flip the coin toward their opponent’s cup. If they get it in, they get two points and continue shooting in the same manner. If they miss they get one show from the other opponent’s line worth one . Then the second player takes his turn. First player to 21 wins.

Table Top Hockey: Items needed – a table, 3 coins 2 players sit across from each other at a table (sit across the narrow way not end to end). Player 1 places the 3 coins in a triangle at the edge of the table (space them out so they are about 1” apart). The other player makes a “goal” at his end of the table using his pinkies and using his pointer finger as a goalie. Player 1 “skates” forward by passing one coin in between the other two. He can make 3 passes before he has to shoot one of the coins at the goal by flicking it forward. (if the table is very narrow use 2 passes) Player two can the shot with his one finger but if it hits the back of the goal it is a point. Players alternate turns until someone scores 11 points.

Table Top Football:

Items Needed – a table, a piece of paper 2 players sit across from each other at a table (sit across the narrow way not end to end). Make a football out of paper by folding it over 2 or 3 times into a strip and then folding the strip into a triangle over and over until it is thick. Player 1 places the football on his edge of the table and knocks it forward toward the other end of the table. If the football stops with any part of it hanging over the other end, it is a touchdown. If it doesn’t make it to the end or falls off then it is a . Once a touchdown is scored that player has 6 points. He then has the chance for an extra point. Player 2 puts the tips of his fingers together with his thumbs up to make a goal post. Player 1 must flick the football in between the goal posts for an extra point. Play to a set score or play to a set time, your choice.

Airless Hockey: Items needed: 2 towels, puck (coffee can lid or some other disk type object), marking tape Make a line with tape across the center of an open area on a hard floor surface (linoleum, hard wood, etc.). 2 players get on their hands and knees on either side of the line. Rollup two towels long ways and put one in front of each players knees to form a goal. Players must use their hands and try to shoot the puck past their opponent and hit their goal. Opposing player must try to block the shot and then shoot back. Neither player can cross over the line onto the other side. Option: game can also be player using a small ball or rolled up sock. Players would have solo cups in their hands and use the cups to try to trap the ball and then shoot it forward. This could be done on a carpeted surface.
