2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship (CMDCC) qualification process has been modified. The 2021 CMDCC will be a thirty-five (35) team event with five (5) pools of seven (7) teams competing in individual round robins. Following these five round robins, twelve (12) teams will then advance to the playoff round. The championship team will advance to the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, at a date and place TBD. The 35 team Championship field was determined as follows: • 14 teams as selected by their respective Provincial or Territory Associations. • 14 teams from the CMDR based on points accumulated from March 15, 2019 to March 15, 2020. 1 Teams must have played in a minimum of two mixed doubles events during this time frame. The junior women’s and men’s Champions will earn the right to represent Scotland at the World Junior Championships, where Scotland has medalled consecutively every year since 2004 - in 2016 Scotland’s junior men won gold, becoming World Junior Curling Champions. Curl Aberdeen is again the venue for the national event, it has hosted the Scottish Curling Junior Championships since 2010 and we are delighted to be back. Curl Aberdeen will also host the World Junior Curling Championships in 2018, as part of the exciting programme of four international curling events that Scotland is playing host to, the first of which - the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships - took place at intu Braehead in November 2016. The Royal Caledonian Curling Club will be providing live line scoring and results coverage of the Scottish Curling Junior Championships on the event page on our website www.royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org for the duration of the championships. Joined by members, representatives of the RCCC, Airthrey Castle, Blair Drummond, Doune, Dunblane, Keir and Pollok Curling clubs, the Wheelchair Curlers, the Stirling Virtual Club, Central Province and Active Stirling, as well as members of the Bridge of Allan Community Council, Stirling Council and the Dr. Welsh trust, the Provost spoke of the strong association this area of Scotland currently has with curling and of its historical connections too. He commended Bridge of Allan Curling Club on its longevity and toasted its continued existence for another 225 years!
