It seems not long ago that I was in Grade 7 and I was introduced to this energetic group, the Grade 8s. I got along with them in no time and they, in turn, welcomed me. Watching them leave was emotional; not only were they my friends but my sister, too, was part of the group. Next year I am going to be in matric and I cannot imagine how I am going to feel leaving Dominican Convent School – leaving my friends, teachers and school life behind as I journey into adulthood. I wish the matrics of 2013 all the best in the coming years, and I hope the Dominican spirit is with them always. Linda Ngele, Gr 11D

Music has always played a great part in our hearts and lives here at DCS. In 2013 we literally experienced the “winds of change”, with the sounds of recorders, clarinets and saxophones coming from the music house. Through perseverance and determination we started to offer a bigger variety of instruments from which to choose in 2013. Apart from piano and violin, we are proud to offer tuition in guitar, cello, all the woodwind instruments and drumming.

It has always been a dream of ours to build a Dominican orchestra. With the

Ballet has been an important part of the lives of many DCS boys and girls. A large number of our students excelled in their annual ballet examinations.

We now have two U15 girls’ teams, one U16 team and two boys’ teams that are ready to compete at the highest level.

Our girls and boys entered two major tournaments and the D9 league and did exceptionally well – especially our U15 boys, who came third in the district, just a place short of qualifying to play in the finals in Cape Town.

We are proud to have two of our Grade 10 boys, Kamogelo Makhene and Thembisile Malawana, selected for the provisional Gauteng U16 team. We look forward to them doing well there.

We are very grateful that we now have a proper volleyball ground, and we are looking forward to hosting matches next year.
