VESSEL SURVEY REPORT OF THE VESSEL “ SIN TACHA”
Albin Vega 1331
This survey sets forth the condition of the vessel, including the hull, machinery, equipment, fittings and outfit, to the best of the surveyor’s ability without the removing of bulkheads, paneling ceilings or other portions of her structure, and without taking borings to ascertain thickness of structure, testing for tightness, and without opening up machinery or auxiliaries for internal examination. Mechanical and electrical equipment condition is determined to the exterior surface of the equipment. Inspection of sailboat rigging condition is limited to six feet above the deck and downward. This survey report represents the honest and unbiased opinion of the surveyor, but in no event is to be considered a guarantee or warranty of any kind. Further, no determination of stability characteristics has been made and no opinion expressed.
This report is a summary of the findings of the survey performed on 27 March 2013 for Mr. XXXXXXXX with the sole intent to determine the condition of the vessel for purchase, insurance, and finance. Two copies of the report are issued, an original with color photos and one electronically transmitted copy. No other copies are authorized. The report contains proprietary information that is intended for the sole use of Mr.XXXXXXX and is not sellable or transferable in any manner or form. This report is copyrighted under the copyright laws of the United States and any unauthorized reproduction, distribution or use is expressly prohibited c2013. This survey is conducted to inspect for compliance with the current boating safety standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (A.B.Y.C.) as well as the U.S. Coast Guard standards.

SURVEY NOTES, FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS:
Note: Critical findings are highlighted in red and should be addressed immediately
Note #1 Antifouling The antifouling is adequate for another season, but requires some spot painting and recoating in limited areas. Mounting bolts for sea cocks exposed. Recommendation: Spot paint areas around the rudder, rudder post, keel, and exposed bar areas. Seal and paint exposed bronze foundation bolts. Plan for next season haul out and complete antifouling system.
Note #2 Zinc The shaft zinc is spent. Recommendation: Replace the 1” shaft zinc.
Note #3 Speed Log The speed log paddle requires replacement. Recommendation: Remove damaged paddle and replace with available spare.
Note #4 Drain plug The lower drain plug is provided in this type of hull for Winter layout when the vessel is hauled out in freezing climates. However, it is somewhat exposed to damage and loosening from light grounding or submerged obstruction. Recommendation: Simply provide “spot” epoxy sealer around the plug to secure
Note #5 Gel Coat Chips in Main Deck There are several deep gel coat chips in the main deck which can allow moisture intrusion into the underlayment. Recommendation: Fair in and seal with gel coat repair paste. Repaint as necessary.
Note #6 Fire Extinguishers The fire extinguisher certifications are out of date. Recommendation: Test and recertify all extinguishers.
Note #7 Oil Pollution, Environmental and Carbon Monoxide Placards. Required placards are not posted. Recommendation: Provide placards are required in area open to view to crew/guests.
Note #8 Packing Gland The packing gland needs routine lubrication and provision of packing nut wrench. Recommendation: Wire brush and lubricate packing gland nut and keeper. Check packing and provide packing nut wrench in accessible location adjacent gland.
12
General Observations and Recommendations:
o Topside gel coat is degrading. Although not structural, a future plan should be budgeted for topside paint and restoration. o The copper fuel tank is original and in very good condition. However, it should be monitored as part of routine maintenance. o The engine and supporting systems are in very good condition, however engine hours do not reflect actual upgrades and extended maintenance. A log should be kept and the tradition of maintenance history and spare parts provision maintained. o The anchors and rodes are sufficient but should be ranged and marked. o The stern anchor is adequately stowed in the lazarette, but a more secure method to contain the rode should be considered so that it does not become fouled with other equipment. o Monitor the stern bearing for the shaft and consider routine replacement at next haulout o Spare filters and basic engine parts are maintained. However, consider additional fuel and oil filters for extended trips. o Check smoke and carbon monoxide alarm at least annually (manufacturer posts weekly). o Check and caulk deck to hull joint when required.
