2nd G-EVER International Symposium The 2nd Asia-Pacific Region Global Earthquake and Volcanic Eruption Risk Management (G-EVER) International Symposium will be held on October 19 – 20 at Sendai City Information & Industrial Plaza. This is co-organized by Geological Survey of Japan, International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), etc. All CCOP delegates are welcome to participate in this symposium. < General Information > Visa support: For the visa requirement, please check the Japanese Embassy in your country. GSJ will issue an invitation letter if necessary. But in case it takes quite some time for the preparation, please contact us (email: intl7- [email protected]) well in advance if you need an invitation letter. Weather and climate: Climate of Sendai is relatively mild for its latitude (38°N). According to Japan Meteorological Agency, daily average temperature in October ranges from a low of 11.2oC to a high of 19.4oC in Sendai City. While the City enjoys fine weather in October, bringing a folding umbrella with you may be a good idea in case it rains. Clothing: A long-sleeve shirt is enough during the warm daytime, but it is advised to bring a thin sweater or a light jacket for evening. Sometimes, weather can be pretty chilly in this season. Sightseeing and public transportation: Sendai has been a political and cultural center of Tohoku (northeastern) region of Japan since ancient times and there are many historical and cultural places to visit, as well as shopping areas. Pick-up at Sendai Airport: GSJ provides a pick-up service between Sendai International Airport and four Hotels listed on the previous page on October 19 and 20. connects the Sendai Airport and JR Sendai Station in about 30 minutes (630 yen). Trains run every twenty to thirty minutes. JR Tohoku Shinkansen (Yamabiko, Hayate, or Hayabusa) Travel time ranges from about 100 to 140 minutes depending on the number of stops.
