INDIVIDUAL NOTES:

GREAT SCOTT! Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield leads all Islanders with a +14 rating through 43 games this season. Mayfield, 26, is riding career- highs in goals (3) assists (12) and points (15). The St. Louis, MO native has two assists in four career games against his hometown team.

BARZ-ALL STAR: The NHL announced last week that Mathew Barzal will be the Islanders representative at the 2018 All-Star weekend in San Jose. Through 45 games this season, Barzal, leads all Islanders in points (43) and assists (30). Second year forward, Mathew Barzal recorded his third three-point outing of the season in Thursday’s meeting between the Islanders and Rangers. Barzal, 21, joined Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby as the only players in the last 30 years to record three or more three-point outings vs NYR before their 22nd birthdays.

TWO TYPES OF TOEWS: Rookie defenseman, Devon Toews, scored his third goal of the season, moving into a tie for fifth place among NHL rookie blueliners in goals despite playing more than 30 fewer games than those ahead of him. Toews, 24, became the first Islander defenseman in 25 years to score at least three goals in his first 10 career games. The Abbotsford, BC native also ranks in the top 10 in rookie +/- with a plus -7 rating.

LEE-DING ALL AMERICANS: Anders Lee co-leads the Islanders with 16 goals though 45 games this season. Since the start of last season, the Edina, Minnesota native leads all US-Born players in both goals (56) & power-play goals (22). Lee is also the Islanders reigning ironman at 163 straight games played.

ROB'IN GOALS: New York Islanders goaltender, Robin Lehner posted a career-long eight-game win streak from Dec. 18 - Jan. 10. Lehner has allowed only 19 goals in his last 13 games (9-2-2, 1.49 GAA, .947 save percentage). In his four non-wins in that stretch he has allowed only seven goals. Lehner is 9-1-0 in his last 10 decisions. Lehner lowered his NHL-leading goals against average to 2.16; he also has the best save percentage among all goalies who has appeared in at least 1/3rd of their team’s games: .928.

MILESTONE FOR MARTIN: Islanders forward Matt Martin played in his 600th NHL game on Tuesday vs. Carolina. Martin, 29, scored the opening goal for the Islanders in their 4-3 win in St. Louis on Saturday giving him five this season, his most since 2016-17. The Windsor, ON native ranks second in the NHL in hits per game (4.3). Martin recorded his second multi-point game of the season on Sunday vs TBL.

TEAM NOTES:

QUICK HITS: The New York Islanders are... 23-2-1 when scoring at least three goals (including SO) 4-2-0 in front ends of back-to-backs 6-0-0 in back ends of back-to-backs 9-6-2 at Barclays Center 3-1-1 at NYCB Live Nassau Coliseum 11-5-1 vs the Metro 6-2-3 vs the Atlantic 9-8-0 vs the Western Conference

QUALITY SHOTS: The New York Islanders are 6-0-0 when being held to 20-shots or fewer this season, marking the first time in franchise history that has happened. The Islanders topped the Rangers 4-3 on Thursday, recording 20 shots on goal including one shot in the third period, a Josh Bailey game-winning goal. The Islanders lead the NHL in wins when being outshot (19).

HOME BACK-TO-BACKS: Over the last four seasons, the New York Islanders have only played in three home back-to-back series. They hosted one in 2016-17 and one in 2015-16. The home back-to-back in 2016 was a league rescheduled game on April 10, the final day of the regular season, after weather (snow) forced the Islanders and Flyers meeting originally scheduled meeting in January to be pushed to the end of the season. The Islanders will play four home back-to-back series this year.

TROTZ PASSES ARBOUR: With the win on New Year’s Eve in Buffalo, Islanders head coach Barry Trotz surpassed Islanders Hall of Fame coach, Al Arbour for fourth place on the all-time career wins list (788). Trotz is second among active coaches in career wins. Trotz is set to coach in his 1,570th game tonight, which leads all active coaches.

ONE FOR THE MONEY: The Islanders have allowed one goal or fewer 15 times this season already three more than their 2017-18 season. The New York Islanders currently lead the NHL in fewest goals allowed this season.

NYI vs. THE METRO: The Islanders are 11-5-1 against the Metropolitan Division this season with their lone loss coming on Wednesday at NYR. The Islanders started the season 7-0-0 against the Metro becoming the 11th team in NHL history to open the season with at least seven consecutive wins against divisional opponents

The Islanders will play 20 games at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the team's home since the 2015-16 season. They'll play the remaining 21 home games at NYCB Live Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in Uniondale, where the team called home from 1972-2015.
