As an association we last met in person just days before the first COVID-19 case was reported in Alabama. As a result, we have felt the need and seen the importance of the strong relationships we have formed within ANGA. We continue to learn from each other ways to adapt in providing safe and reliable natural gas to our communities, businesses and industries in the face of a global pandemic. The theme for this ANGA year is “Fueling Alabama’s Future.” According to a report published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration at the time of this writing, the United States produced and consumed record volumes of natural gas last year. Even with these increases in supply and demand, there are many who wish to limit the consumer’s choice when it comes to energy. You have seen some of these plans enacted outside of our state. As a result, I feel we should respond by increasingly promoting the benefits of natural gas as a proven energy choice. While individual consumers may be the focus of much of this attention, we also understand the critical importance of natural gas to businesses and industries of all sizes in every corner of our state…and beyond. There is an unofficial theme that I would like to weave into this year, which is “family.” Over the years you have treated my family and me as your own, and we hope to be able to return that to each of you. The relationships that we form between systems, individuals, corporate members, and affiliate members, bring and keep us together. I feel fortunate to have been a part of ANGA as both an affiliate and a corporate member. Through those experiences I have seen firsthand how we help each other and grow mutually. For years I have been amazed at what you are able to accomplish as an almost entirely volunteer organization. ANGA is a model for other associations both regionally and nationally. You can be proud of this, and the credit goes to all of you who have put your heart and soul into our group over the years. With these things in mind I hope that you will take a moment to get to know our leadership team. We have a fantastic group of officers, directors, committee chairs and active past presidents. Please reach out to myself or any member of the team if there is a way that we may better serve your organization, or if there is an ANGA related issue that you would like to discuss. I cannot end without saying a special “thank you!” to our 2019-2020 ANGA President, Kevin Saucier. More than one curveball was thrown his way during his time as an officer and as President. When we are able to be together again I look forward to being able to thank Kevin for his leadership and continuing friendship. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Alabama Natural Gas Association President. Johnson @SpireEnergy.com For Immediate Release Spire joins ONE Future Coalition’s efforts to reduce methane emissions to 1% or less by 2025 Membership builds on Spire’s commitment to become a carbon neutral company by midcentury ST. LOUIS (Feb. 3, 2021) — As part of Spire’s commitment to the environment and the communities it serves, the natural gas provider is joining the ONE Future Coalition, a group of 37 energy companies voluntarily working together to reduce methane emissions to 1% or less by 2025. Spire’s partnership with ONE Future builds on the company’s commitment to become a carbon neutral company by midcentury. Just this week, Spire appointed their first Head of Environmental Commitment, guiding the company’s path to carbon neutrality. In addition, Spire continues to see success in reducing methane emissions, decreasing emissions by more than 39% since 2005 with a nearly 54% reduction projected by 2025, well ahead of international standards. “As an energy provider, it’s our privilege and responsibility to care for our planet. We are excited to join this diverse mix of peers to collaboratively reduce methane emissions and collectively report on our success.” said Spire President & CEO Suzanne Sitherwood. “We believe that natural gas has an important role to play in the transition to a low-carbon future. Partnerships like ONE Future help solidify that role and will help guide us to be a carbon neutral company.” “The innovative efforts of the ONE Future Coalition allow us to build consensus views on new ways to reduce emissions,” said Steve Lindsey, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Spire.

Corporate Social Responsibility 2018 Report Our mission Answer every challenge, advance every community and enrich every life through the strength of our energy 2 The greatest energy in the world comes from one source—people. At Spire, we believe we’re in the people business, and it’s our privilege and responsibility to make sure people have energy—good energy. Energy that inspires and has a positive, measurable impact on the world around us. So, with our mission and values as our guide, we rolled up our sleeves two years ago and began to formalize our strategy around Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR. We built our strategy around four key areas, and now—for the first time ever—we’re reporting on how we impacted people, communities, the environment and our leadership: 1. Our people Everything starts with our people. Because when we have a culture of giving within our company, it flows to our communities and beyond. 2. Our communities In our mission, we promise to advance communities and enrich lives. We do that by providing safe, reliable, energy and by supporting organizations that move our communities forward. 3. Our environment As an energy provider, we have a responsibility to sustain our environment today—and for generations to come. 4. Our leadership We have a leadership team that truly believes energy exists to help people. So we’ve set up governance and structure around our CSR program to help us live that belief. In the pages that follow, you’ll see how we’ve used our energy for good, influencing each of our targeted areas in fiscal year 2018—the first full year of our CSR efforts.

Although the stock currently trades at a 9% 2018 P/E Michael Weinstein 212 325 0897 discount to peer gas utilities, we see this as appropriate considering a major [email protected] pending ratecase filing for Missouri set for April 2017, where 63% of ratebase Khanh Nguyen, CFA now resides. SR has made strides diversifying beyond its Missouri base in 212 538 3524 [email protected] recent years, albeit through some high-priced M&A activity in Alabama and Radi Sultan Mississippi. High levels of operating company equitization among all its 212 538 8137 utilities present an opportunity to de-lever the parent, invest in infrastructure [email protected] such as the STL Pipeline, and grow EPS 4%-6% over the long-term. ■ Missouri ratecase downside is mitigated: We see ~$0.10 of EPS or less at risk in the April 2017 ratecase, focusing on an appropriate equity ratio and the clawback of merger savings. The utility is now supported by ~56% equity but if the authorized level is reduced below this, we expect the impact to be mitigated with increased utility debt for reinvestment or parent debt reduction.

  • Before the Public Service Commission of the State of Missouri
BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI In the Matter of Spire Inc.’s ) Acquisition of EnergySouth, Inc. ) File No. GM-2016-0342 and Related Matters ) SPIRE INC.’S RESPONSE TO STAFF INVESTIGATION REPORT COMES NOW Spire Inc. (“Spire”), formerly known as The Laclede Group, Inc. (“LG”), and submits its Response to the Staff Investigation Report filed in this case on September 1, 2016 (the ‘Report”). In support thereof, Spire states as follows: 1. In its Report, the Staff provides its views of how Spire’s acquisition of Alabama Gas Corporation (“Alagasco”) some two years ago and its potential acquisition of EnergySouth may impact the utility customers of Laclede Gas Company (“Laclede”) and its operating unit, Missouri Gas Energy (“MGE”) in the future. Staff also provides its legal views of the Commission’s jurisdiction over the proposed transaction as well as Spire’s and Laclede’s compliance with the terms of the 2001 Stipulation and Agreement in Case No. GM-2001-342 which authorized The Laclede Group to form a holding company. 2. As discussed below, the Staff’s Report unfortunately contains an incorrect summary of its own experts’ conclusions that falsely suggests that the Alagasco acquisition has had resulted in higher rates currently being charged and lower quality services currently being provided by Laclede Gas Company. This incorrect summary has, in turn, been relied upon by the media to misinform the customers of Laclede Gas and MGE into believing something that is simply not true – a result that unfairly tarnishes the reputation of Spire and Laclede Gas and does a real disservice to customers, employees and shareholders.
