You'll be able to witness some of those shocking events on Jan. 20, when MVD Visual releases The Best Of GG Allin & The Murder Junkies on DVD. The 60-minute DVD features live versions of 12 colourfully named GG Allin & The Murder Junkies tracks. The Murder Junkies were Allin's third backing band and were formed in 1991. They rehearsed while Allin served a prison sentence for raping a woman, cutting her and drinking her blood. The Murder Junkies' original lineup consisted of guitarist "Chicken" John Rinaldi, bassist Merle "Pinkie" Allin and drummer Donald "Dino Sex" Sachs. They only released one album with Allin, 1993's Brutality And Bloodshed For All . Allin (real name Kevin Michael Allin ) began his career with The Jabbers in the late '70s. He began using drugs during that period and his wild behaviour caused the band to break up. Allin was a member of The Cedar Street Sluts, The Scumfucs and The Texas Nazis through the '80s. He became known for his insane behaviour and would regularly eat laxatives before shows so he could poop on stage. Although Allin often said he'd kill himself during a performance, he died of a heroin overdose in 1993. Allin was the subject of a 1994 documentary titled Hated that was released as a special edition DVD last year. In fact, the first time I ever saw ‘Hated’ I thought that all the GG-haters, the people who can’t stand him and just can’t understand why he did what he did should see it. He was an artist but and artist who never stepped out of character, he believed in his work and lived by it and paid for it on several occasions. It’s easy for an artist to create an obnoxious and grotesque piece of work then wash up, change clothes and go back to reality…that’s the thing about GG, his work was his reality, there’s no clean clothes for GG….there are some quite poignant parts in the GG interviews and when would you ever hear a word like that in relation to GG Allin?? And that’s why this movie is such a unique and important piece of documentation.
