Is Adult Swim Legal?
Is Adult Swim Legal? I get it, trust me. You want to quietly relax by the neighborhood pool and forget about all of the other six million things that you have going on in your life. The problem is that when you get settled in at the pool, someone’s 4 year-old is doing cannonballs in the pool near you and you are getting soaked. “It sure would be great if adults had their own exclusive swim time,” you think. As you leave you mention this to the pool manager or lifeguard and you are then informed that indeed your Association has created an adults-only swim time. This sounds like just what you wanted. It sounds so reasonable – especially since the adults pay the assessments which are used to maintain the pool – and yet the truth of the matter is that “adults-only” swim times are in fact illegal under the Fair Housing Act. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the provision of facilities based on “familial status.” Basically, “familial status” exists where one or more persons under age 18 live with a parent or guardian. Homeowner associations and condominium associations are subject to the provisions of the Fair Housing Act and as such are barred from discriminating in providing access to amenities based on “familial status.” A recent California federal case struck down an Association’s adults-only swim time as discriminating on familial status. The Court reasoned that an adults-only swim time discriminates against other association members who have children by treating them differently from those without children. -

CBS Digital Media And CBS News Announce Broadband 24-Hour News Network Cable News Bypass Strategy Catapults CBSNews.com into the Multi-Platform Future of Network News "Public Eye," a New Blog, To Debut on the Site Later This Summer NEW YORK, July 12, 2005 -- CBS Digital Media and CBS News today announced plans for a major expansion of CBSNews.com, creating a 24-hour, multi-platform digital news network, bypassing cable television in favor of the nation's fastest-growing distribution system -- broadband. The joint announcement was made by Larry Kramer, President, CBS Digital Media, and Andrew Heyward, President, CBS News. In so doing, CBS News will move from a primarily television and radio news-based operation to a 24-hour, on-demand news service, available across many platforms, drawing on the experienced, worldwide, award-winning resources of the Division. The new CBSNews.com will include: • an on-demand, 24-hour news network in the digital broadband space; • a blog to be called "Public Eye" designed to provide greater openness and transparency into the newsgathering process; • a newly-configured homepage including The EyeBox, an on-page video player showcasing the free broadband video of CBSNews.com including over 25,000 clips -- and video yet to be broadcast on the network; • a commitment by CBS News fully to integrate its personnel and other global newsgathering resources to provide exclusive, original reporting and commentary around the clock. "This major expansion of CBSNews.com is designed to capture an audience that is increasingly looking for news and information at all times of the day, not just during scheduled periods, and using the Internet for that purpose," said Kramer. -
ANDY: How Did CN/Toonami Learn About Big O to Begin Looking Into Airing It?
ANDY: How did CN/Toonami learn about Big O to begin looking into airing it? DEMARCO: A friend of ours at Bandai America, a man named Ken Iyadomi, sent us a tape of just the opening song and animation. We were immediately like “WHAT IS THIS AND HOW DO WE GET IT ON TOONAMI.” At that point, the show had not yet premiered in Japan. Why was Big O chosen to air on Toonami? What made it special? What drew you or your team to it, especially since it had failed in Japan and was cancelled— cancelled on a cliffhanger, of all things, too? Most of the Toonami team are people that grew up on giant robot/tokusatsu shows like Voltron, Ultraman, Gaiking, etc, so we were already primed to love the design of Big O. Combined with the clean, Batman The Animated series influenced animation and the great Queen-esque theme song, we felt like it was a show that might connect with a broader audience in the US. When did you get the idea to help produce more Big O? What was the catalyst to put yourself and CN in that position? What made Big O so special to pursue something this big? That idea came from Mike Lazzo, who runs Adult Swim. He was a big fan of the show and suggested to me that we call Bandai and see if they might be open to creating another season as a co-production. It’s not really that the first season perfomed particularly well; it’s just that we really loved it and wanted more! Director Kazuyoshi Katayama recalls CN having two requests for season 2: more action and to “reveal the mystery.” Can you elaborate on that? That may be his recollection, but that’s not mine. -

List of Directv Channels (United States)
List of DirecTV channels (United States) Below is a numerical representation of the current DirecTV national channel lineup in the United States. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7). All channels are the East Coast feed if not specified. High definition Most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. Additionally, the same channel number is listed for both the standard-definition (SD) channel and the high-definition (HD) channel, such as 202 for both CNN and CNN HD. DirecTV HD receivers can tune to each channel separately. This is required since programming may be different on the SD and HD versions of the channels; while at times the programming may be simulcast with the same programming on both SD and HD channels. Part time regional sports networks and out of market sports packages will be listed as ###-1. Older MPEG-2 HD receivers will no longer receive the HD programming. Special channels In addition to the channels listed below, DirecTV occasionally uses temporary channels for various purposes, such as emergency updates (e.g. Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike information in September 2008, and Hurricane Irene in August 2011), and news of legislation that could affect subscribers. The News Mix channels (102 and 352) have special versions during special events such as the 2008 United States Presidential Election night coverage and during the Inauguration of Barack Obama. -

HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE This collection is from the estate of Elizabeth Dribben. She was a longtime writer and producer for CBS News (network level) in NYC. Professor Dribben taught radio courses at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism after retiring from CBS. She collected materials she used while she was a producer for the late Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes fame. What she has bequeathed to MEC is a collection of actual news stories that were aired on CBS Network radio. (Mike Wallace was originally a radio reporter.) Some of those stories may also have been used for television. The wise professor can immediately see how each story was researched, organized, written and edited into the final script that was used on the air. Ms. Dribben specifically collected these materials to be used by future reporters in a classroom setting. They confirm to the essential genres a journalist must know – investigative, feature, political, social, and so on. She wanted MEC to have them because she knew a minority institution would be much less likely to have access to materials such as this.
