She is one of only four women to have achieved this landmark status, as well as the first Hispanic performer to be thusly honored. Over the course of her groundbreaking career, Ms. Moreno has starred in such iconic classics as Singin’ in the Rain, The King and I and West Side Story (for which she won the 1962 Best Supporting Actress Academy Award), performed on Broadway in hits like The Last of the Red Hot Lovers and The Ritz (for which she won the 1975 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress), appeared on such successful television shows as Oz, The Electric Company and The Muppet Show (for which she was awarded a 1977 Emmy), recorded albums (including her latest, the 2015 Spanish language recording Una Vez Mas) and written a New York Times best selling memoir, 2014’s Rita Moreno: A Memoir. She has also been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, and in December, 2015, she will receive a prestigious Kennedy Center Honor. ALFONSO ARAU LOFTY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Alfonso Arau, one of the legends of Mexican cinema, is the internationally-renowned director of such acclaimed films as Zapata: The Dream of a Hero, A Walk in the Clouds and the arthouse smash, Like Water For Chocolate (winner of the 1992 Ariel Awards for Best Picture and Best Director). Over the course of his distinguished career, he has also made numerous memorable appearances as an actor in such classics as The Wild Bunch, El Topo, Romancing the Stone and the Tucson-shot comedy Three Amigos (in the unforgettable role of El Guapo). 7 FESTIVAL AWARDS BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT LEE MARVIN MAVERICK AWARD Bobcat Goldthwait began his career doing stand-up comedy as a teenager in Syracuse, New York. His unique comedic voice soon propelled him to national attention and led to success as an actor. But through it all, Goldthwait knew that directing was his calling – and critics, festivals and audiences agree. From Toronto to Sundance, his darkly humorous and brave films have won numerous awards and been hailed as not only funny and smart, but profound and moving as well. Laced with his own brutally funny writing, Goldthwait’s films are highly subversive and unique cinematic experiences – from the hilariously twisted romantic comedy Sleeping Dogs Lie to the shockingly funny character study World’s Greatest Dad starring Robin Williams to the savage social satire God Bless America, Goldthwait makes films that push the boundaries of political correctness and enter into new and uncharted territories. With his latest project, the moving documentary Call Me Lucky, the ambitious filmmaker has added yet another dimension to his ever-growing oeuvre. “I want to prove F. Scott Fitzgerald wrong,” Goldthwait has said, “that there are no second acts.” The Loft Film Fest proudly presents renegade filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait with the 2015 Lee Marvin Maverick Award, in honor of his continually astonishing second act. CICAE ART CINEMA AWARD CICAE ART CINEMA AWARD BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE BEST SHORT FILM CHUCK NORRIS VS. • “TERRIFICALLY ENGAGING.” – Variety
“TERRIFICALLY ENGAGING.” – Variety “BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT’S MASTERPIECE. A TRULY BEAUTIFUL HUMAN DOCUMENT.” – Drew McWeeny, Hitfix 2015 CALL ME LUCKY a film by Bobcat Goldthwait CALL ME LUCKY is an inspiring, triumphant and wickedly funny documentary with a compelling and controversial hero at its heart. Barry Crimmins, best known as a comedian and political satirist, bravely tells his incredible story of transformation with intimate interviews from comedians such as David Cross, Margaret Cho and Patton Oswalt, activists such as Billy Bragg and Cindy Sheehan and directed in inimitable style by Bobcat Goldthwait (World’s Greatest Dad/God Bless America/Willow Creek). As a young and hungry comic in the early 80’s Barry Crimmins founded his own comedy club in Boston, in a Chinese restaurant called the Ding Ho. Here he fostered the careers of new talent who we now know as Steven Wright, Paula Poundstone, Denis Leary, Lenny Clarke, Kevin Meaney, Bobcat Goldthwait, Tom Kenny and many others. These comics were grateful for Barry’s fair pay and passionate support and respected him as a whip-smart comic himself but, as becomes clear in their interviews, they also knew he was tortured by his past. As archive footage of Barry shows, he was thickly mustachioed, thick set and thinly disguising an undercurrent of rage beneath his beer swilling onstage act. It seemed Barry was the fierce defender of the little guy but also an angry force when confronted. As one of the top new comedians in the country he appeared on The HBO Young Comedians Special, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, Evening at the Improv and many other television shows in the 80’s.

  • Sydney Film Festival Reveals Weird and Wonderful Freak Me out Program
MEDIA RELEASE EMBARGOED UNTIL 10:00 WEDNESDAY 7 MAY SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL REVEALS WEIRD AND WONDERFUL FREAK ME OUT PROGRAM The 61 st Sydney Film Festival today announced six films in the popular and strange Freak Me Out program strand. Dedicated to horror, fantasy, shock, schlock and extreme arthouse cinema, Freak Me Out brings a decidedly demented dimension to SFF. “Freak Me Out is for everyone from hard-core gore hounds and students to cinephiles and mainstream audiences curious about the wild side of cinema,” says SFF Freak Me Out guest programmer, Richard Kuipers . “Freak Me Out embraces material that until recently was largely restricted to genre-specific film festivals. Thanks to many factors including the wealth of information and weird material now available on the Internet, Freak Me Out has been able to capture a substantial audience in a prestigious festival such as SFF.” This selection includes the official Sundance selection title Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, which follows the entertaining plight of a small zombie squad battling a brutal horde of undead Nazis; Willow Creek , a found-footage horror from iconic indie comedy director Bobcat Goldthwait; horror- musical Stage Fright , in which the cast of a musical theatre summer camp is terrorised by a kabuki- masked, knife-wielding slasher; French comedy-horror film Goal of the Dead , an eclectic combination of soccer and zombies; the first ever Indonesian-Japanese horror film Killers from LA Screamfest award-winning director duo the Mo brothers; and Love Eternal , the recent winner of the inaugural Fresh Blood award at the Black Bear Film Festival in Warsaw, an adaptation of Kei Oishi’s intense Japanese novel ‘Loving the Dead’, set in Ireland.

NIRVANA: IN UTERO 20TH ANNIVERSARY MULTI-FORMAT REISSUE OUT SEPTEMBER 23rd FULL TRACKLISTING REVEALED INCLUDING REMASTERED ALBUM, NEW 2013 MIX, RECENTLY UNEARTHED "FORGOTTEN TUNE," ORIGINAL NEVER-BEFORE-HEARD "HEART-SHAPED BOX" AND "ALL APOLOGIES" MIXES, 1990 "MARIGOLD" DEMO, "LIVE AND LOUD" CONCERT FROM DECEMBER 13, 1993 (ALSO AVAILABLE AS A STANDALONE DVD) & MUCH MUCH MORE To say that Nirvana's third and ultimately final studio album In Utero was 1993's most polarizing record would be the understatement of a decade. The unadorned sonic rawness of Steve Albini's recording laid bare every primal nuance of the most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl would ever record. And with its 1991 predecessor Nevermind having sold some 30 million copies, singlehandedly returning honest rock 'n' roll to the top of the pop charts, In Utero was essentially the first record Nirvana would make with any expectations from the public. So from the opening quasi-shamble melodics of "Serve The Servants" through the bittersweet closing strains of "All Apologies," In Utero was the sound of the most incredible yet conflicted rock 'n' roll band of the era at the peak of its powers coming to terms with a generational spokes-band mantle they'd never seen coming-and ultimately surmounting these struggles to make the record they needed to make. As Rolling Stone's David Fricke said in his review at the time, "In Utero is a lot of things-brilliant, corrosive, enraged and thoughtful, most of them all at once. But more than anything, it's a triumph of the will." Universal Music Group will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the unwitting swansong of the single most influential artist of the 1990s with a multi-format release that spreads more than 70 remastered, remixed, rare, unreleased and live recordings over configurations ranging from a 3-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition to a standard digital/CD remaster of the original album.
