View Our Private Events Press T h e G U T H R I E B R O T H E R S Jeb Guthrie and Jock Guthrie, THE GUTHRIE BROTHERS, share their passion for great vocal music with their audiences. They perform music with startling authenticity in an “unplugged” acoustic style. Their playlist ranges from modern artists such as Coldplay, John Mayer, Green Day and Dave Matthews to classics including The Beatles, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, the Eagles, and Van Morrison. The brothers have been singing together for as long as either one of them can remember-–a major reason for the perfect blend of their harmonies. Both Jock and Jeb play acoustic guitar and sing. “The music that we play is truly an extension of who we are,” Jock says. “Our philosophy is to do songs that we feel directly connected to. We can trace these connections back to shared experiences and feelings from our childhood.” “We think this is the reason we can be so faithful to the spirit and sound of whatever period or type of music we’re playing-- including our own music. We play together as one,” Jeb says. Drawing on their influences, the GUTHRIE BROTHERS put on a show that is a musical journey from the 50s through the 2000s. The Guthries’ original music received national attention with the release of their self-titled, debut album. The album garnered extensive airplay on both Americana and Country radio stations. About the album, Billboard Magazine said, “Many stations will find the well-written, heartfelt lyrics and wonderful harmonies a welcome addition to their airwaves." The album was re-released earlier this year and can be heard and purchased online at the iTunes Music Store, Napster and Rhapsody. Extensive touring, combined with live radio and television appearances in support of the album, added the seasoning that makes The Guthrie Brothers’ performances sparkle today. This hegemonic femininity prescribes standards that are considered ideals in describing the archetypical feminine woman. Black women have been stereotyped as unfeminine and unattractive, and this negative and pervasive social rhetoric continue to have a long lasting adverse impact on this population. Black feminist scholars have long articulated the importance of defining Black womanhood not in relation to hegemonic femininity, but by incorporating the actual experiences of Black women. Using an interpretative phenomenological methodology and based on interviews with Black women in the United States, the current study investigated Black women’s notion of womanhood. This study uncovered ways participants self-defined, resisted negative and oppressive societal messages, and celebrated their own Black Womanhood.

    ERIC CLAPTON BIOGRAFIA Eric Patrick Clapton nasceu em 30/03/1945 em Ripley, Inglaterra. Ganhou a sua primeira guitarra aos 13 anos e se interessou pelo Blues americano de artistas como Robert Johnson e Muddy Waters. Apelidado de Slowhand, é considerado um dos melhores guitarristas do mundo. O reconhecimento de Clapton só começou quando entrou no “Yardbirds”, banda inglesa de grande influência que teve o mérito de reunir três dos maiores guitarristas de todos os tempos em sua formação: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck e Jimmy Page. Apesar do sucesso que o grupo fazia, Clapton não admitia abandonar o Blues e, em sua opinião, o Yardbirds estava seguindo uma direção muito pop. Sai do grupo em 1965, quando John Mayall o convida a juntar-se à sua banda, os “Blues Breakers”. Gravam o álbum “Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton”, mas o relacionamento com Mayall não era dos melhores e Clapton deixa o grupo pouco tempo depois. Em 1966, forma os “Cream” com o baixista Jack Bruce e o baterista Ginger Baker. Com a gravação de 4 álbuns (“Fresh Cream”, “Disraeli Gears”, “Wheels Of Fire” e “Goodbye”) e muitos shows em terras norte americanas, os Cream atingiram enorme sucesso e Eric Clapton já era tido como um dos melhores guitarristas da história. A banda separa-se no fim de 1968 devido ao distanciamento entre os membros. Neste mesmo ano, Clapton a convite de seu amigo George Harisson, toca na faixa “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” do White Album dos Beatles. Forma os “Blind Faith” em 1969 com Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker e Rick Grech, que durou por pouco tempo, lançando apenas um album.
