2013 NHL Playoffs: Sharks Sweep Canucks

The 2013 NHL Playoffs gave the San Jose Sharks their first sweep in a seven game series in franchise history and their victim the Vancouver Canucks.

In a surprising move Alain Vigneault chose to start Corey Schneider in net as opposed to Roberto Luongo. The Canucks put pressure on to start the first period, yet it was Brent Burns who lit the net for the Sharks to give an early 1-0 lead. After a careless possession on the defensive end Mason Raymond capitalized on the mistake to tie the game up at one.

Brad Stuart drew a boarding penalty on Derek Roy and just eight seconds into the power play, Joe Pavelski put San Jose back up in front. There was no scoring in the second period, though the Canucks did get penalized for a double minor for high-sticking and a slash.

During the third Vancouver dominated putting pressure on the defense. Andrew Desarjdins got called for roughing after Antti Niemi made a nice save. This allowed for Alex Burrows to tie the game. A minute and 50 seconds later, Alex Edler scored giving the Canucks the lead.

With the Sharks struggling, Kevin Bieska went off for a cross check on Tommy Wingels. Pavelski scored the game tying goal on a beautiful backhanded shot. The game went into overtime and in this session the Sharks dominated.

On poor line change Logan Couture missed out on a two-on-one opportunity that nearly became a three-on- one. He chose to shoot at the net, yet Schneider played the puck perfectly.

Daniel Sedin ended up in the penalty box for boarding and off the face-off Joe Thornton put a shot on goal the shot got saved, yet Patrick Marleau was able to dive for the rebound and put the puck in for the game winning goal in overtime and more importantly got the sweep.
