The school started in the year 2003 with 105 students housed in a single building with one floor, 6 class rooms and 8 teachers. Today it is home to 1400 students in two buildings supported by 125 teachers. Furthermore, the theoretical aspect of the compositions is distinctly from the Hindustani, (north Indian) tradition. Hence, for the purpose of this presentation, the use of the term Solkattu refers to the broader, more general practice of Indian rhythmic language.
