Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf Governing Body Annual Report 2020-21 Head: Matthew H T Evans Chair of Governors: Elinor Patchell Vice-Chair: Simon Williams Coron gwlad ei mamiaith Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf Letter of introduction by the Chair of Governing Body Dear Parent / Guardian, It is a privilege to write to you this year on behalf of the governing body of Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf following another successful and busy year for our school. I am delighted to welcome Mr Matthew Evans as our new Head from September, who has led the school community well in difficult circumstances. I would also wish to pay tribute to the dedicated and extensive leadership of Mr Alun Davies, who retired in the Summer of 2020. Mr Davies led Glantaf for the past decade, and throughout this extended time, ensured Glantaf’s high standards in examinations, in extra- curricular activity and in growing a real community spirit at Glantaf. During this period, the third Welsh Medium Comprehensive, Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern opened and Mr Davies’s support and leadership ensured the best possible start for Bro Edern, who shared the campus with Glantaf during the first year as well as managing the impact of this significant change on Glantaf’s catchment and population. On behalf of the entire school community and Governing Body I wish him well for a well-deserved retirement. The Covid pandemic has truly affected every aspect of our daily lives, however the longer- lasting effects on our children and young people continues to concern parents, and the wider education system.

  • Rabodirect PRO12 : PREVIEW 2012/13
RaboDirect PRO12 : PREVIEW 2012/13 Round 18: 22ND & 23RD March 2013 ROUND 18 PREVIEWS With just five rounds left to decide which teams will contest the Play-Offs, there is a new leader of the RaboDirect PRO12 with Glasgow Warriors taking over the mantle from Ulster, whilst for the fourth round in succession, Ospreys swapped places with Scarlets in the Play-Off Zone. Three of those teams are in action on Friday night; Ulster traveling to Edinburgh, Ospreys hosting Welsh rivals Newport Gwent Dragons, and Scarlets in Italy to face Zebre. Edinburgh can do their Scottish neighbours, Warriors, a favour if they can defeat Ulster however their record against the Ulstermen is not great. Meanwhile Ospreys and Scarlets must both be looking to come away with maximum points from opponents who are sitting at the wrong end of the table in their bids to reach the Play-Offs. The leaders, Glasgow Warriors, are not in action until Saturday, and are the only one of the potential Play-Off teams to face another side from the top half of the table when the visit Leinster at the RDS. Munster will also be looking for maximum points in the All-Irish clash against Connacht if they are to make a final push for the knockout stages. With just two points separating the top three teams in the table, whilst it is even closer for the final Play Off spot, there is definitely all to play for still as the RaboDirect PRO12 enters its closing stages. ROUND 18 FIXTURES Friday 22 March EDINBURGH RUGBY v ULSTER At Murrayfield, 7.30pm.

  • Forward Momentum
Forward momentum JIM TUCKER finds out what Taranaki rugby is doing to make more history: “It was the BBC - Brown, Briscoe and Carroll.” So began the front page story in the Taranaki Herald Sports Edition one Saturday in 1959. It was one of an endless string of puns the paper’s rugby writer used to chronicle extraordinary feats by Taranaki’s late-50s Ranfurly Shield holders. The monikers so playfully employed above – it could easily have been Burke, Boon and Cameron - are a distant memory for most of today’s generation. But they’re far from forgotten at Taranaki Football Rugby Union HQ in Yarrow Stadium. As the photograph of TRFU chief executive Mike Collins shows, that great team dominates one whole wall of the meeting room, and as the union gears up to repeat last year’s win in the ITM inter-provincial rugby competition, the names of Peter Burke, Ross Brown, Kevin Briscoe, Ralph Carroll and company resonate as never before. One reason is the current team already rivals the ‘59ers on at least one measure – the number of All Blacks in its ranks While Taranaki had six at various stages between 1957 and 1960, today’s team has five, with more in the offing. It also has eight Maori All Blacks, (including captain Charlie Ngatai, also an All Black), and two in the Junior All Blacks. Not that any of this is particularly at the forefront He says the academy managers, Willy Rickards of Mike Collins’ mind as he and his team prepare and Adam Haye, spotted Vaeno during some high for the ITM Cup season, which began with a school first fifteen games.
