This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract The genus Dallasiellus Berg (Hemiptera: Cydnidae) is revised with the description of a new species from Caribbean, Dallasiellus varaderensis nov. sp. A diagnosis of species is based on external morphology of males and genitalia examination. Dorsal view of adults and parameres are illu- strated. Notes about their biology and host plants are briefly discussed. Keywords Burrower Bugs, Dallasiellus, New Species, Diagnoses, Turfgrass, Caribbean 1. Introduction Members of the Cydnidae family are called burrowing bugs; more than 88 genera and about 680 species are recorded [1]. They have generally been considered of little economic importance, but up to date almost 30 spe- cies have been reported as pests [2]-[4]. Some species causing damages on turfgrass in a Golf Club from Carib- bean have been detected recently [5]. However, the biological information about these insects is not very well-known yet. One of the most important studies of this group was the Revision of the Western Hemisphere fauna of Cydni- dae carried out by Froeschner [6]. -

Biosearch 2004 Report
Biosearch Nyika: Malawi 2004 Edited by Marianne J Overton FOREWORD Peter Overton It is ten years since the Biosearch Nyika project was first mooted and agreement with the Director of National Parks and Wildlife obtained for our exploration of the remoter parts of the Nyika National Park. Over this period the teams have focused mainly on the northern part of the park where patrolling has been very limited and our gathering of intelligence has been most helpful to the Nyika management. In 2004 we undertook the most challenging expedition to date, launched from the extreme north of the park at Uledi, a four-hour drive from Thazima. The team‟s first challenge was to cross the unbridged North Rukuru River with all their supplies. They then had to climb up the western escarpment of the Mpanda ridge to a point on the Mpero River, where they set up a Base Camp, from which to launch out on their surveys. The greatest achievement was to climb both Mpanda and Kawozya and discover the remote Bleak House, now derelict but offering stunning views over Lake Malawi and far beyond. At this point they could certainly claim to be in remote country since this old site is much talked about but very rarely seen by visitors. We have yet to have clear information about who built it, when and why. Perhaps it was a holiday „retreat‟ for Livingstonia or a staging post for missionaries who conducted business on the west of the Nyika National Park and into Zambia. In many ways this expedition was the pinnacle of logistical achievement. -

This showy and rare species so far was known only from Colombia, no records for other countries were existing. Early instars of the species are compared with those of a Colombian population. A photo of the male lectotype from Oxford University Museum, a living Peruvian female and larva are figured for the first time, a second Peruvian mounted female and another male are shown as well. In addition to this interesting record first data for R. jacobaeae (WALKER, 1855) from Peru and Ecuador are mentioned which widen the known ränge of that species much to the north. The female ofR. renatae LAMPE, 1985 is described and figured for the first time. New records are also given for R. aurota (CRAMER, 1775), one for medium elevation in eastem Peru, others for high elevation in Bolivia. -

Abstract: Pentatomoidea knowledge in São Paulo state is here updated. Two hundred and two species in 92 genera belonging to Acanthosomatidae, Canopidae, Cydnidae, Pentatomidae, Phloeidae, Scutelleridae, Tessaratomidae and Thyreocoridae are registered. Forty one species were added and 13 taxonomical and nomenclatorial corrections were made comparing with the data presented in the first edition of the Biota SP in 1999. Pentatomoidea species richness of São Paulo state is around 25% of the species known to Brazil and around 3% of the world fauna. The increase of the studies in scarcely known families in Brazil will certainly raise these numbers. Pentatomidae was the most numerous taxon in São Paulo state, with 80% of the registered species. Morphology of the Spermatheca in the Cydnidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera): Bearing of Its Diversity on Classification and Phylogeny

Heteroptera, Pentatomomorpha, Pentatomoidea, Cydnidae, Amaurocorinae stat. n., vaginal structures, spermatheca, parietovaginal gland, ring sclerite, fecundation canal, morphology, classification, phylogeny Abstract. Cuticular parts of the spermatheca and associated vaginal structures (chiefly the ring sclerites of the parietovaginal glands) have been examined and compared in 190 cydnid species representing 65 genera and all five subfamilies currently recognized in the family (Amnestinae, Cephalocteinae, Cydninae, Garsauriinae, Sehirinae). Four species belonging to genera formerly included within the Cydnidae (Dismegistus, Parastrachia, Thaumastella, Thyreocoris) were also examined. Morphology of the three main parts of the spermatheca [seminal receptacle (distal bulb), intermediate part (pump apparatus), spermathecal duct] is described. Four main types of spermathecae can be recognized from the distal receptacle and the intermediate part: the amaurocorine type (in Sehirinae: Amaurocorini), amnestine type (in Amnestinae), garsauriine type (in Garsauriinae), and “cydnoid” type (in Cephalocteinae + Cydni- nae: Cydnini, Geotomini + Sehirinae: Sehirini). No synapomorphy of these types was found which suggests that the currently con- ceived Cydnidae are not monophyletic.
