Guns N' Roses: Del Appetite Al Spaghetti, Passant Per Illusion It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 17/02/2016 a les 00:01 Guns N' Roses: Del Appetite al Spaghetti, passant per Illusion. Quan fa uns mesos, es van intensificar els rumors (i ja portem així gairebé vint anys), d'una reunió de Guns N' Roses, era altament improbable. Finalment, la reunió que estàvem esperant milions de fans de tot el planeta, s'ha complert. El primer que es va confirmar va ser que Guns N' Roses serien un dels caps de cartell de Coachella 2016, un dels festivals més grans del món i que té fama de reunir a formacions retirades dels escenaris, durant els caps de setmana del 16 i 23 d'abril, les entrades del qual ja estan esgotades. Però recentment Guns N' Roses, acaben d'anunciar dos concerts abans del festival de Coachella i que se suposava seria la primera reunió de la banda després de 20 anys, per el 8 i 9 d'abril a l'estadi T-Mobile que acaba d'inaugurar-se a Las Vegas i dos més per el 19 i 20 al Foro Sol de Mexic D.F, on també han penjat el cartell de ?sold out?. Guns N' Roses cobrarà per cada concert 3 milions de dòlars, la qual cosa es traduirà en unes entrades molt cares, entorn dels 250-275 dòlars (228-251 euros). Probablement no sigui el que molts esperàvem, és a dir, una reunió completa amb la formació clàssica (Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan i Steve Adler), però en el que segur que estarem d'acord (i que penjarà el cartell de Sold Out per allà on passin), és la imatge de Axl i Slash tocant junts de nou. Dels membres del Apetite For Destruction, nomes hi seran (a dia d'avui) Axl Rose, Slash i Duff McKagan. Sense Izzy Stradlin involucrat, això no pot considerar-se una reunió de la formació clàssica. Tret que per clàssica entenguem la formació que va girar durant la major part de les gires dels "Illusions". La qüestió és que encara queden alguns caps per lligar, però em fa mala espina que ni tan sols es parli del que va ser un eficient substitut del Izzy Stradlin a la guitarra com Gilby Clarke o un solvent substitut de Steven Adler a la bateria com Matt Sorum. Sent justos, podem concedir el benefici del dubte fins que es desvetllin oficialment els noms dels músics que acompanyaran a Axl, Slash i Duff, però esperem que els managers no ens la vulguin colar i que almenys els músics que siguin convidats de pedra siguin gent resolutiva, eficient i amb una mica de carisma. Tots els rumors (i semblen bastant encertats per els darrers moviments) apunten que Richard Fortus (guitarra que ha acompanyat a Axl els darrers anys) i Dizzy Reed (teclista i membre que es va incorporar a Guns al 1990) han abandonat la banda de la que eren fundadors, The Dead Daisies, segons han anunciat, per iniciar un projecte transcendental. Haurem d'esperar fins a saber-ho, però almenys aquesta vegada l'espera no serà d'anys. Del Appetite al Spaghetti passant per Illusion. En plena explosió angelina de les bandes hair metall, rockers amb imatge glam com Poison o Cinderella, van sorgir Guns N' Roses, i la seva música beu de les clares influències del hard rock dels 70 i bandes com Aerosmith, AC/DC, KISS i Rolling Stones. Axl Rose (nascut amb el nom de William Bruce Rose a Lafayette, Indiana, el 6 de febrer de 1962) és fill de Sharon i William Rose, qui va abandonar la llar familiar quan Axl era nomes un bebè. William va ser un noi d'infància problemàtica, que va sofrir maltractaments i abusos sexuals per part del seu pare. A més va ser arrestat en diverses ocasions a la seva adolescència i era marginat per part dels seus companys de classe, refugiant-se en el cant, que practicava al col·legi i al cor de l'església, i en el rock, devorant els discos dels Stones, Sex Pistols i Led Zeppelin en companyia del seu amic Jeff Isbell, més conegut com Izzy Stradlin (nascut a Lafayette, Indiana, el 8 d'abril de 1962), un fanàtic de la manera de tocar la guitarra de Keith Richards. Tots dos van crear un grup al que van anomenar Axl, dedicat a fer versions dels seus temes favorits. Al començament dels anys 80 van abandonar casa seva per anar-se'n a Los Angeles on van formar part de diverses bandes glam rock de la ciutat californiana, fins que van crear el grup Rose, posteriorment anomenat Hollywood Rose. Per aquesta època William va adoptar el nom de la seva primera banda, convertint-se definitivament en Axl Rose, deixant Hollywood Rose per unir-se a L. A. Guns, la banda liderada pel guitarrista Tracii Guns. Per la seva banda, Izzy va crear un grup al que va anomenar London. 1985 Els dos amics d'Indiana es tornarien a aliar quan els L. A. Guns i Izzy van decidir fusionar-se, creant el grup Guns N' Roses, apel·latiu que combinava les pistoles d'uns amb les roses de la banda prèvia de Izzy i Axl, Hollywood Rose. El destí va semblar maniobrar amb rapidesa i en pocs mesos Duff McKagan substituïa a Beich, un tal Slash suplia a un desmotivat Guns, abandó que va provocar la sortida de Gardner, ocupant el seu lloc Steven Adler. La formació original i més mítica del grup havia nascut. 1986 La creixent popularitat de la banda a l'escena angelina (a clubs tan mítics com el Trobadour, Whiskey A Go-Go i el Roxy) no va passar desapercebuda i, entre les nombroses discogràfiques interessades, va ser Geffen la que va acabar fitxant a la prometedora formació al març de 1986. Abans de l'entrada a l'estudi per gravar el seu primer àlbum, el segell va decidir consolidar el gran nom que ja s'havien fet Guns N'Roses amb el llançament d'un EP en directe Live ?!*@ like a https://www.naciodigital.cat/bergueda/noticia/4853/guns-roses-appetite-al-spaghetti-passant-illusion Pagina 2 de 14 Suicide, brutals són les dues versions de dues de les seves grans influències: Nice Boys (Rose Tatto) i Mama Kin (Aerosmith). 1987 Després de molts mesos de batallar amb una quadrilla d'enormes talents però insaciables borratxos, dogradictes i addictes al sexe, Geffen publica Appetite For Destruction. Un àlbum que ja es va veure acompanyat per la polèmica només sortir, amb la depravada portada original (un robot sorprès després d'haver violat a una noia), que va haver de ser substituïda per la definitiva, l'icònic disseny amb cinc calaveres en una creu retratant a cada membre del grup. El disc però va passar desapercebut, fins que David Geffen ?va suggerir' a la MTV que el primer single, Welcome To The Jungle, fos inclòs a la programació nocturna. L'esclat va ser immediat, milers de rockers van reclamar a la cadena una major difusió del tema i aquí va començar la llegenda. Del gairebé anonimat de 1987, Guns N'Roses van passar a ser al 1988 la gran sensació del rock mundial, amb grans èxits dels senzills Sweet Child O'Mine (número 1), que Axl va dedicar a la seva novia Erin, la filla de Don Everly dels Everly Brothers i Paradise City. Appetite For Destruction segueix sent el LP de debut més venut de la història de la música. Our first Boston show was with DYS, The Mighty COs and The AMERICA’S HARDCORE FU’s. It was very intense for us. We were so intimidated. Future generations will fuck up again THE OUTPATIENTS got started in 1982 by Deep Wound bassist Scott Helland At least we can try and change the one we’re in and his older brother Eric “Vis” Helland, guitarist/vocalist of Mace — a 1980-82 — Deep Wound, “Deep Wound” Metal group that played like Motörhead but dug Black Flag (a rare blend back then). The Outpatients opened for bands like EAST COAST Black Flag, Hüsker Dü and SSD. Flipside called ’em “one of the most brutalizing live bands In 1980, over-with small cities and run-down mill towns across the Northeast from the period.” 1983’s gnarly Basement Tape teemed with bored kids with nothing to do. Punk of any kind earned a cultural demo included credits that read: “Play loud in death sentence in the land of stiff upper-lipped Yanks. That cultural isolation math class.” became the impetus for a few notable local Hardcore scenes. CANCEROUS GROWTH started in 1982 in drummer Charlie Infection’s Burlington, WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS MA bedroom, and quickly spread across New had an active early-80s scene of England. People always say I must have a beautiful yard. Truth is, I don’t even have what I would call a “landscape.” I have a “Lazy Gardener’s Laboratory” … The “Lazy Gardener” column started when I was a Chronicle reporter. Alice Hodges was gardening columnist. I had a new house and plants from my grandmother and mother. When Alice left, the managing editor, Don Pickles, asked if anyone could write the column until he could find another “real horticulturist.” I was successfully growing elephant ears and monkey grass. I said, “I'll do it!” Since it was a temporary assignment, Beverly Harris, my editor, gave me permission to do a humorous column, “The Lazy Gardener” — a la Erma Bombeck. Don didn’t care as long as I gave him what-to-do-each month tips, like Alice did, to tape to his refrigerator. I wrote of my gardening successes (and failures) and interviewed plant society members. What an education! The column continued, I became a Master Gardener and, later, I teamed up with Sally McQueen Squire, the Bulb Lady, a master horticulturist and a stickler for doing things right. (Through her River Bend Co., my horticultural education continues to this day.) Back then our plants came mainly from California and Florida. Weakened by our heavy spring/fall rains, intensely hot summers or prolonged droughts, they were prey to insects and disease.
