Continue joining the N12 S. Continue straight on until the highway splits (Giloolly’s Interchange). Take the N3 Durban split. Drive on passing the Bedfordview, VanBuuren off-ramps. Take the M2 (Germiston- Johannesburg) off-ramp. Keep on the Johannesburg lane. The roads winds under the highway to the right. Continue straight on the M2 passing various off-ramps until you reach Rissik off-ramp. You can: Continue in the middle lane driving straight on passing off-ramps until the road splits. Take the Sandton/Pretoria split. Continue passing Carr off-ramp. Turn into Smit off-ramp. It winds under the highway. Drive carefully and indicate to the left as the road adjoins coming traffic from the left. Turn left and continue on Smit Street. Drive on passing all the robots until you pass Harrison Street. Move towards the left lane as you will be turning left at the next robot (Rissik Street). Drive up the steep hill in the middle lane crossing the robots (De Korte Street). Keep in the middle lane so as not to drive in the Rea Vaya bus lane. Indicate right because as you pass the Rea Vaya bus stop you will be turning right into the public parking area. OR Take the Rissik off-ramp. The road winds under the highway. Continue driving on Rissik, through the CBD, for about 4km. You will pass Park Station on your right and cross Wolmarans and Smit Street. Drive up the steep hill, in the middle lane, crossing the robots at De Korte Street. Keep in the middle lane so as not to drive in the Rea Vaya bus lane. Indicate right because as you pass the Rea Vaya bus stop you will be turning right into the public parking area. From Pretoria (N1 joining M1) From Midrand continue taking the M1 S Johannesburg lane. Continue passing various off-ramps (Marlboro Drive, Grayston Drive, Corlett Drive, Glenhove, Atholl, Houghton) until you reach Jan Smuts. Turn onto Jan Smuts drive on until you reach Empire Road. Cross the intersection continuing straight up-hill and then down-hill. Take the left lane as you will be turning left into Jorissen Street. Drive on passing various intersections until you reach the park on your left. The road will curve to the left and there you will see a BRT station (Rea Vaya Bus Stop). As you turn take the middle lane. Start to indicate to the right as you will be turning right after passing the Rea Vaya bus stop. The public parking is situated on the right. Page 1 of 2 From the South (M1 South) Drive passing BP garage and Goldreef City Casino on your left. Continue passing Booysens and Crown off-ramps. Keep on the left lane as the road splits. Take the Sandton/Pretoria lane. Continue passing Carr off-ramp. Turn into Smit off-ramp. It winds under the highway. Drive carefully and indicate to the left as the road adjoins coming traffic from the left. Turn left and continue on Smit Street. Drive on passing all the robots until you pass Harrison Street. Move towards the left lane as you will be turning left at the next robot (Rissik Street). Drive up the steep hill in the middle lane crossing the robots (De Korte Street). From down-town (Newtown) Come up Ntemi Mpiliso onto the Mandela Bridge. Continue straight on Bertha / Jan Smuts. Take the right lane as you will be turning right into Jorissen Street. Drive on passing various intersections until you reach the park on your left. The road will curve to the left and there you will see a BRT station (Rea Vaya Bus Stop). As you turn take the middle lane. Start to indicate to the right as you will be turning right after passing the Rea Vaya bus stop. The public parking is situated on the right. From the West (Main Reef Rd / Roodepoort) Continue on Main Reef Road, passing Langlaagte Testing station. Pass Church Street, continuing until the next set of robots. Take left to M1 on-ramp. Continue, keeping left, taking the Sandton/Pretoria split. Continue passing Carr off-ramp. Turn into Smit off-ramp. It winds under the highway. Drive carefully and indicate to the left as the road adjoins coming traffic from the left. Turn left and continue on Smit Street. Drive on passing all the traffic lights until you pass Harrison Street. Move towards the left lane as you will be turning left at the next traffic light (Rissik Street). Drive up the steep hill in the middle lane crossing the robots (De Korte Street). Keep in the middle lane so as not to drive in the Rea Vaya bus lane. Real estate developers have recently unveiled ambitious plans to build two completely new cities from scratch: Waterfall City and Lanseria Airport City ( formerly called Cradle City) are master-planned, holistically designed ‘satellite cities’ built on vacant land. While incorporating features found in earlier city-building efforts, these two new self-contained, privately-managed cities operate outside the administrative reach of public authority and thus exemplify the global trend toward privatized urbanism. Waterfall City, located on land that has been owned by the same extended family for nearly 100 years, is spearheaded by a single corporate entity. Lanseria Airport City/Cradle City is a planned ‘aerotropolis’ surrounding the existing Lanseria airport at the northwest corner of the Johannesburg metropole. These two new private cities differ from earlier large-scale urban projects because everything from basic infrastructure (including utilities, sewerage, and the installation and maintenance of roadways),

    Views, Comments and Opinion Braamfontein aims to be national digital hub by Hans van de Groenendaal, features editor Prof. Barry Dwolatzky, director of the the Joburg Centre for Sofware Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand believes in the value of an attractive and vibrant digital technolgy hub in Braamfontein to support skills development, job creation, entrepreneurship and the rejuvenation of Johanesburg's inner city. Braamfontein has seen much urban renewal in recent times, and is begining to regain its erstwhile trendiness. Prof. Barry Dwolatzky calls this new digital development the Tshimologong Precinct and is planning to create an exciting new-age software skills and innovation hub. Tshimologong is the seSotho for "place of new beginnings". The precinct is part of an ambitious ICT cluster development programme, Tech-in-Braam, aimed at turning the once dilapidated suburb into the new technical heart of South Africa and beyond. Prof. Dwolatzky is in the process of setting up shop in a series of five unused buildings. After some extensive refurbishments, a one-time night club floor will become a meeting space and will house server rooms; warehouses will be converted into computer labs and retail outlets will reincarnate as development pods. We had left Ireland, land of our birth, leaving behind our beloved Grandparents, family, friends, and a very special and never-to-be-forgotten little furry friend, to start a new life in South Africa, land of Sunshine and Golden opportunity…………… The Goldeneh Medina…... We came out on the “Edinburgh Castle”, arriving Cape Town 2nd Feb 1961. We did a day tour of Chapmans Peak Drive, Muizenberg, went to somewhere called the “Red Sails” and visited our Sakinofsky/Yodaiken family in Tamboerskloof. Th e GFIP will provide an interconnected freeway system between the City of Johannesburg and the City of Tshwane, this system currently being one of the main arteries within the north-south corridor. One of the most significant aims of this investment for ordinary citizens is the reduction of travel times since many productive hours are wasted as a result of long travel times.
