THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS" an Original Screenplay by Steve Kloves
"THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS" An Original Screenplay by Steve Kloves WARNER BROS.INC. 4000 Warner Boulevard Burbank, California 91522 April, 1985 (C) 1985 WARNER BROS. INC. All Rights Reserved "THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS" FADE IN: JACK BAKER is standing before a dirty window, looking out at a dirty city street. He is wearing a tuxedo. VOICE (O.S.) Hey. WIDEN ANGLE It's the GIRL from this afternoon. JACK Hey. Jack looks at the Girl, sleepy and warm under the bedcovers, then at the rest of the apartment. Not good. GIRL Whatcha doin' over there? JACK Gotta go. GIRL How come? JACK Job. The Girl glances at the bedside clock. GIRL Funny hours. JACK Funny job. GIRL Will I see you again? Jack looks out at the dirty street again. JACK No. The Girl doesn't appear terribly unnerved by this. GIRL (at the tux) You weren't wearing that, were you? Earlier. Jack shakes his head, taps a brown paper bag on the sill. JACK Brought it. GIRL Shit, thank God. You look like a creep. JACK Thanks. GIRL I mean, I'd hate to think I'd pick up someone who wore that shit. Jack smiles, grabs the paper bag, and moves to the door. GIRL (continuing) Hey. (as he stops) You got great hands. EXT. STREET - JACK Jack ain't exactly Cary Grant, but any guy wearing a tux on these streets doesn't exactly mesh with the milieu. Pausing for a flask of whiskey at an all-night liquor store, he breaks the seal before he hits the sidewalk and moves on, drinking as he goes. -

So, we begin our oral interviews by asking: tell us a little bit about your family and how they ended up in the Bronx. William Parker (WP): Okay. My mother, Mary Louise Jefferson, was born in Hardenberg, South Carolina, and my father, Thomas Parker, Deutsch Parker, was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina. I believe they met up here in New York, at the Savoy Manor or the Audubon Ballroom, I think it was the Savoy Manor, listening to music, jazz. MN: Right. Border Crossing Brothas: a Study of Black Bermudian Masculinity, Success, and the Role of Community-Based Pedagogical Spaces
DOUGLAS, TY-RON MICHAEL O’SHEA, Ph.D. Border Crossing Brothas: A Study of Black Bermudian Masculinity, Success, and the Role of Community-based Pedagogical Spaces. (2012) Directed by Dr. Camille M. Wilson. 289 pp. Using qualitative research methods and an amalgamation of border crossing theory and postcolonial theory within the context of race, this dissertation study examined how Black Bermudian males form identities, define success, and utilize community-based pedagogical spaces (i.e. barbershops, churches, sports/social clubs, neighborhoods) to cross literal and figurative borders. Drawing on data from 12 Bermudian Black males who were active participants in community spaces, this study challenges educators to consider how the disturbing statistics on Black male failure and the perceived achievement gap between White students and students of color may be influenced by tensions between dominant ideologies of success, the under appreciation of community-based pedagogical spaces by educational stakeholders, and competing conceptualizations of identity, success, and masculinity for Black males. BORDER CROSSING BROTHAS: A STUDY OF BLACK BERMUDIAN MASCULINITY, SUCCESS, AND THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY-BASED PEDAGOGICAL SPACES by Ty-Ron Michael O’Shea Douglas A Dissertation Submitted to the Faculty of The Graduate School at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy Greensboro 2012 Approved by Committee Chair © 2012 Ty-Ron Michael O’Shea Douglas To the memories of Ivy “Ma” Richardson, “Granny Mary” Wilkinson, Henry “Papa” Thomas, Louise “Nana Louise” Jackson, Bernard “Uncle Jack” Jackson, Mandell “Hillside” Hill, Mother Burruss, and Ronald Burruss—men and women whose lives, legacies, and love inspired me to be a border crosser and bridge across time and space. -

Ahh bliss where are you now, hidden under frown of brow? Where may I find your sound, which surely must be all around? Hmm bliss what is it that I miss, as I go on with that and this? Where may I find your smile, in each and every hour and mile? Yes I can feel it now, the harmony of the sky and clouds, the moon's revolving round, earth's harvest after plough. It is a dance eternal found the sweetest movement in all sound; and never will be missed, as by that bliss this life is kissed. -
Transcript of This Episode
Behind the Tech with Kevin Scott Episode 29 Guests: Jacob Collier and Ben Bloomberg JACOB COLLIER: Honestly, I think mastery is a myth. I don’t think it exists. I think that no ideas are ever finished or new. Everything is just recombined. And I love that. Because it means that we get to be artists rather than inventors. We can paint with what we know. And so I guess my job as a musician has been to learn as much as I possibly can. [MUSIC] KEVIN SCOTT: Hi, everyone. Welcome to Behind the Tech. I'm your host, Kevin Scott, Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft. In this podcast, we're going to get behind the tech. We'll talk with some of the people who have made our modern tech world possible and understand what motivated them to create what they did. So, join me to maybe learn a little bit about the history of computing and get a few behind-the-scenes insights into what's happening today. Stick around. [MUSIC] CHRISTINA WARREN: Hello and welcome to Behind the Tech. I’m Christina Warren, senior cloud advocate at Microsoft. KEVIN SCOTT: And I’m Kevin Scott. CHRISTINA WARREN: And on to day’s show we have two very special guests. Ben Bloomberg and Grammy-award winning musician Jacob Collier. And for those of you who tune into the show to geek out about tech and AI and you’re thinking, okay, so what does a Grammy-award winning musician have to do with tech. Well, hmm, kind of everything. -
