Come be baffled by the Wishlings, dodge the Ukobach's flaming oil, tread through the Toadstoolkin's tainted gardens, and challenge the Nurahiyon for mastery of hearth and home: All of these, and more, are detailed within the pages of the Gremlin Grimoire. Gremlins abound, causing mischief and havoc throughout civilization - the Akaname loiters in latrines, eating offal and cursing its poor victims to become Akaname themselves. Meanwhile, the Sky Rippers attack the airships and flying citadels that ply the skies. The Bes both protect and terrify the children under their guard, and the Nebutori stuff their unsuspecting victims full of delicious, fattening food until their victims are weak and glutted. Long tongue (Constant) (Ex) An Akaname's tongue is incredibly long and wide, seemingly too big to fit in its mouth. The Akaname can use its tongue to administer its slam attack,and it has a 15 foot reach. Scent (Ex) Detect opponents within 15+ feet by sense of smell. Stench (30 feet, 1 round, DC 11) Living creatures in aura's range are sickened for listed duration (Fort neg). 3 AKANAME (cont.) CR 2 The Akaname is a disgusting gremlin species which frequents bathhouses, latrines, and other placed where human filth is prevalent. the waste of humans is the Akaname's favorite food, and it will come out at night and slurp up human waste wherever it can. Due to this unhealthy obsession, many folk are content to leave Akaname infestations alone when they find them. This is a mistake, since the Akaname is every bit as malicious and spiteful as any other gremlin. Fiercely territorial, if anyone intrudes on an Akaname during its nightly feeding, the Gremlin will lash out with its huge, disgusting tongue, licking the unfortunate victim. This has the added effect of inflicting a dreadful curse which slowly turns the unfortunate into an Akaname. The process is slow, taking several days, during which the victims skin turns bright red, their eyes bulge, they begin to crave disgusting rotting food and giving off a terrible stench, and, of course, their tongue beginning to swell out and grow horribly long. Because of their obsession with human wastes, Akaname can often be found in the same territory as otyugh. Otyugh are the Akaname's natural predator (if the phrase natural could be applied to either of these creatures), and an adult Otyugh can wipe out an infestation of Akaname in short order. CR 2 Often considered the friendliest of the gremlins subspecies, the Bes are a race of stunted, naturally invisible humanoid fey known for their misshapen features. Bes, unlike many gremlin races, are not inherently malicious, although they are dangerous when provoked. Bes are the self proclaimed friends of children. Children are the only beings who can see Bes naturally, and Bes love to befriend and entertain children. It is said when a baby laughs, it is because a Bes is performing for them, unseen by their parents. Many a forgotten imaginary friend was actually a Bes which abandoned their mortal compatriots when they grew too old to see them. Although relatively benign, Bes are still gremlins, and have a mischievous streak and a bad temper. Anyone who mistreats or threatens children will immediately incur the Bes' wrath, becoming subject to pranks and sabotage. Those who actively harm children may find their throats slit in the middle of the night by an angry Bes. Sometimes Bes can go too far with this, doing things like shoving an overly strict mother down some stairs or down a well. Although the Bes do like children, they are often oblivious to the harm their "protection" can bring about. An average Bes stands about two feet tall and weighs 100 pounds.     Canadian Guiding Badges And Insignia Brownie Six/Circle Emblems Following the introduction of the Brownie program to provide Guiding for younger girls, and after the decision to base the new program on The Brownie Story, a further decision was made in 1919 to subdivide a Brownie Pack into smaller groups consisting of six girls. These smaller groups within the Pack were known as Sixes and were identified by a Six emblem bearing the name of some mythical fairy- like person from folklore. [Reference: POR (British, 1919)] The original Six emblems were brown felt; later versions were brown cotton with the edges bound in brown. In 1995, the term “Sixes” was replaced by the term “Circles”, and the shape of the emblems was changed as well. In 1972, three of the original twelve Six emblems were retired and in 1995 four new ones were added. After the ‘discovery’ of African pygmies in the 1860s, little people became a powerful way of imaginatively connecting to an inconceivably distant past, and the place of humans within it. Little people in fin de siècle narratives have been commonly interpreted as atavistic, stunted warnings of biological reversion. I suggest that there are other readings available: by deploying two nineteenth-century anthropological theories – E. B. Tylor’s doctrine of ‘survivals’, and euhemerism, a model proposing that the mythology surrounding fairies was based on the existence of real ‘little people’ – they can also be read as positive symbols of the tenacity of the human spirit, and as offering access to a sacred, spiritual, or magic, world.

    The Gremlin: Transfor111ing the Past's Failures BRUCE A. ROSENBERG A MERICAN MOTORS CORPORATION entered the sub-compact field in 1970 with a sturdy little car it named the Gremlin. Its rear door-window (the hatch-back) descends so abruptly from the vehicle's roof that it gives it the appearance of having been cut off before it finished growing (or perhaps the way that Sir Yvain's horse was cut off at the hind quarter by the falling portcullis at the castle of Esclados the Red). The company it- self exploits the car's looks in television commercials which depict a snide and burly service-station attendant asking a pretty young driver about the "rest" of her car. But the ad concludes with the important message that though the car might have unorthodox looks it is economical to drive: the girl smugly and tauntingly hands her torrnentor a dollar bill for gas. What is most incongruous in all this, particularly for those people with clear memories of World War II, is the very name of the car, Gremlin. Historically this is the least likely name for a machine imaginable. But apparently not for the general public, and presumably not for the staff at American Motors which named the car several years ago. The company must have assumed, or conducted extensive field research which demonstrated, that car buyers would think of pixies, sprites, or other varieties of the "wee folk" when they heard the name Gremlin. The name conjures up an image of a small, compact creature (verymuch like the car), who is harmless, playful, and whimsical, perhaps something like the Celtic elf who sells the breakfast cereal, "Lucky Charms." When they first became known to Americans in 1942 (Gremlins had already made the acquaintance of the R.A.F.), they were the subject of several articles in leading magazines, and their diminutive stature was usually featured.

An Abbreviated History of Garden Gnomes Garden gnomes occupy that same odd niche shared by lawn flamingos and circus- animal topiary; the ultra-kitschy, flamboyant and just-a-little-ridiculous decorations that came to prominence in American suburbs throughout the 1960′s and then latched tenaciously onto our cultural sub consciousness. But unlike flamingos and topiary, gnomes have a long and storied history of folklore and myth to draw upon. Gnomes have been a part of western culture since at least the 16th century with the early writings of Swiss-born alchemist Paracelsus. For many of us, though, our knowledge of the history of garden gnomes really only extends back as far as that one Travelocity commercial. Which is unfortunate, really, because garden gnomes are really the “great grandfathers” of campy garden decor. They weigh on average 34 lbs and are known for their luck and charm. Halflings are a medium race and get +2 favor. All Star: Masks give you favor no matter what. Halfings move 5 hexes. Kobold ­ They stand around 2'7" and weigh on average 36 lbs. Kobolds are known for their keen senses. Kobolds are a medium race and get +1 strength and +1 constitution. Cockroaches Tenacity: When you would fall to 0hp you regain a quarter of your health, rounded down. Kobolds move 5 hexes. Gnome ­ They stand around 2'1" and weigh on average 25 lbs.

About Elementals An Elemental is a spirit of nature, embodying four of the five elements of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. Ether does not have a specific elemental spirit associated with it. All of the five elements are combined in different proportions to make up the whole of creation and all are, therefore, present in us. The energetic essence of elementals is quite unique and unlike anything else in the intangible realms. It is said that they are responsible for creating, sustaining, and renewing all life on Earth. When we work with the five elements and Elemental spirits, we connect with their realms and associated energies, benefiting from these vibrations and balancing those elements within ourselves. Water Undines are the elemental of water; the spirits of the water world. They hail from the West and their Archangel is Gabriel. One of the earliest references goes back to ancient Greece and a clan of nymphs called Oceanides who dwelled in the waters of the world. Mythology says that they were the daughters of Titan and his wife Tethys. They were well known to sailors and sea farers as generally benign spirits who could be called on for safe passage in troubled waters or to aid in navigation. To cross one, however, was to be avoided at all costs, as their wrath could whip up a destructive tempest. In European folklore, Undines were said to be the itinerant spirits of bereft women; wounded through unrequited or lost love.
