Standardized Testing Due to the limited availability of standardized tests and revised college testing policies, our recent test scores include only a limited number of our most recent graduates and thus are not an accurate reflection of the academic ability of our students. Students temporarily unable to attend on-campus classes due to illness or COVID-19 exposure were able to attend class virtually and were held to the same academic standards and expectations as their on-campus peers. Please note that the final nine weeks of the 2019-2020 school year required student participation in synchronous class meetings twice a week and completion of assignments and assessments through our learning management system. The evaluation of said assignments and assessments aligned with our standard measurements of student growth as used in previous years. National Merit From 2013-2021, Southwest Christian School has had 18 National Merit Commended Students, five National Merit Scholars, three National Hispanic Scholars and 25 NASA High School Aerospace Scholars. Advanced Placement SCS offers up to 11 AP courses. Students are advised to take no more than three AP classes in 11th and 12th grade. A student must receive permission to exceed these guidelines. A majority of our students participate in our dual credit offerings. Endorsements All students who complete four years of high school at SCS will earn a Texas Multidisciplinary Studies endorsement and graduate with Texas Distinguished Level of Achievement. Many students will also be eligible for the Arts and Humanities endorsement or the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) endorsement. Grading Policy Southwest Christian School uses a 4.0 numerical grading scale. All Honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses are weighted on a 5.0 scale. The purpose of weighting is to acknowledge the depth and complexity of advanced courses. Only grades from SCS are used to calculate GPA.
