Several considerations have, how T ever, rendered advisable the slight change in plan implied in adding the word “ Foreign” to the title used in former editions. First among these is the fact that the C. H. Mekeel Stamp and Publishing Company, possesses to-day, as the result of perhaps the most extensive system of advertising ever carried on by a stamp finn, the names and addresses of no less than 150,000 collectors in ťhe United States and Canada. This mass of names would of itself make a hook fifteen times larger than the present vol ume. To include them all would be a matter of extreme difficulty, and un fair to the tens of thousands of our excluded patrons who might desire to have their names appear in the work. We have, therefore, made this strictly a Foreiyn Address Book, from the American point of view, and, further, břlieve that this plan will be found more satisfactory than the old one. For most American collectors will anyway be provided with one or other of the extensive United States Address Books now published, and our foreign friends will find an abundance of names of Ameri can collectors and dealers in the advertising pages of this volume. Comparison will show that in its chosen field the present work is the most complete in existence. This is true both as to the number of separate coun tries represented, and names included. It is a notable advance upon ail pre vious publications particularly as regards the Australian Colonies, most of the American countries, and in general the smaller countries and colonies, many of which, here for the first time, find representation in a Philatelic Address Book. It is to be noted that the lists of names from the more important Euro pean countries by no means include all the material at our disposal, the effort having been to give a due proportion to each. The Canadian list includes only the names of members of the American Philatelic Association. The list of countries has been made alphabetical throughout, conforming as nearly as maybe with the order and terminology employed in the Standard Stamp Catalogues. An index, geographically arranged, is, however, added. Many thanks are due to the philatelists in all parts of the world who have so generously lent their aid in compiling and correcting the list, of names. Without them this work would have been impossible, but even as it is, it has cost many hundreds of dollars, and the Messrs. Mekeel, even though antici pating a large sale for it. have little hope of finding in it a source of profit, be ing well satisfied if it shall accomplish that whereunto they send it — the strengthening of the bonds of fraternity and good fellowship amongst the collectors and dealers of the whole world. In conclusion we may add that we admit the certainty that many errors and imperfections must of necessity creep into a work of this character and magnitude, though we believe that extraordinary care has been taken in its compilation. We commend it to the kindly consideration of our patrons. J. de Q. ПОХЕНОО. NAMES AND ADDRESSES Foreign Stamp Collectors and Dealers. ALGERIA. BUENOS AYRES.—Continued. (See France.)
