March 2016 The Edge of the Knife: Feature Film We are currently hiring a production bookkeeper and two production managers for The Edge of the Knife. About The Edge of the Knife The Edge of the Knife is a 90-minute, Haida language dramatic film that is being filmed this summer on Haida Gwaii. The film is produced through a partnership of the Council of the Haida Nation, and Kingulliit Productions (a company owned by award-winning Inuit filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk). The film is directed by Helen Haig Brown and Gwaai Edenshaw. The script for The Edge of the Knife was developed during two-years of community consultations led by Leonie Sandercock from the University of British Columbia. The Edge of the Knife is a story of crime, guilt, and abandonment that transform a charismatic young leader to Gaagiixid, the Haida Wildman, who must survive the ravages not only of the wild, but his own soul, before he can reconcile with his community. The film is set in the 1840’s and will feature Haida actors, and is filmed on location in Haida Gwaii. 1. Production Bookkeeper Job Description Working directly in collaboration with the producing team through the production of the feature film The Edge of the Knife, the Production Bookkeeper manages all bookkeeping for the project’s sole purpose company (1037125 B.C. Ltd.) including day-to-day transactions and the preparation of all required government remittances and reports. Time Frame This is a 21 month, part-time contract position. Pre-production (April - July, 2016): Approximately 8 hours/week Production (August - September, 2016): Approximately 32 hours/week Post-production (October 2016 - January 2018): Approximately 4 hours/week Working Conditions Location: Bookkeeper will work from their home or office during pre-production and post-production phases out of either the north or the south. Work on location in Haida Gwaii may be required during production. Hours: Work schedule is flexible during pre-production and post-production phases, while a more fixed weekly schedule will be determined during production. Travel: Bookkeeper may be invite to travel to set prior or during production. Communication: A detailed communication system will be established between Bookkeeper, Producer and Line Producer in order to facility the flow of information from production locations to Bookkeeper. Compensation: Pay rate will be discussed with the interested applicants and set based on competitive market prices for the applicant qualifications and experience. March 2016 Tasks and Responsibilities • Process all transactions (invoices, receivables and payroll); • Organise and maintain hard copies of all invoices, receipts, time sheets and contracts; • Prepare vendor and payroll cheques (biweekly); • Prepare bank account, bank loan and credit card reconciliation (monthly) and monitor transactions; • Maintain cash flow; • Track of financing payments (received/receivable); • Prepare regular detailed cost reports (Telefilm standard budget); • Prepare government reports and remittances; • Assure year-end preparations (account balance verifications, adjustment entries, etc.); Required Skills • No experience with film or television bookkeeping is required • Experienced with Sage 50 (or similar accounting software) and Excel • Strong organizational skills • Can take initiative and work independently • Motivated and enthusiastic to work within a creative team To Apply: If you have any questions please call Cara at 514-486-0707. Production Manager (2 positions: 1 in the north and one in the south of Haida Gwaii) Job Description The production manager supervises various aspects of film production including personnel, logistics, schedules, and budget. The production manager will work in collaboration with the directors and producers through the production of The Edge of the Knife to ensure essential activities are carried out on time and on budget. We are hiring two production managers, one based in the north and one based in south. Time Frame This is a contract for approximately 14 weeks of work spaced out over the next 6 months. Pre-production (April - July, 2016): Approximately 8 hours/week Production (September, 2016): Full time for the month of September Post-production (October, December 2016): Approximately 4 hours/week Working Conditions Location: Production Manager will work from their home, office, or production office (location on Haida Gwaii TBD) during pre-production and post-production phases. We will hire one Production Manger in the south, and one in the north. Work on location in Haida Gwaii is required during production. Tasks and Responsibilities • Work closely with the creative team to identify various set, props and costumes for the film • Manage the acquisition, commissioning, or rental of the required set, props and costumes for the film • Plan and manage the logistics for production in September - this includes travel, accommodation and food for 50 people on a remote location on Haida Gwaii • Support the directors during acting auditions • Work with the producers to ensure all the appropriate contracts and agreements are in place with actors (deal memos and CAVCO numbers) • During production support the directors and producers to manage various activities on set Required Skills • No experience with film or television is required • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills • Ability to problem solve and work through complex tasks independently • Manage people with a supportive and team building attitude • Motivated and enthusiastic to work within a creative team To Apply: If you have any questions please call or email Jon at 778-840-3847, or 604-898-9099.
