Little Compline Fifth Wednesday
Fifth Wednesday (or Thursday) of Great Lent Little Compline with the Life of St. Mary of Egypt and The Great Canon of Repentance by St. Andrew of Crete **Instructions** This service can be offered either on Wednesday or Thursday of the fifth week of Great Lent. An icon of St. John Climacus is placed on a stand in the middle of the solea, as we still commemorate him this week. The church is darkened save for lit candles. No censer is needed. The curtain and Beautiful Gate are closed for the entire service. Instructions for reading the Life of St. Mary of Egypt and singing the Great Canon follow below in this text. The priest wears a purple epitrachelion over his exorasson and starts Little Compline in front of the icon. Priest: Blessed is our God always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Choir: Amen. Priest: Glory to Thee, O God, glory to Thee. O heavenly King, the Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who art in all places, and fillest all things, Treasury of good things, and Giver of life, come, and dwell in us, and cleanse us from every stain; and save our souls, O good One. People: Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (THRICE) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. All-holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our iniquities. Holy God, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy Name’s sake.
