The National Concert Hall launches a Star-studded International Concert Series 2011/2012 to celebrate its 30th Anniversary

Today, Monday 16 May 2011, Jimmy Deenihan, T.D. Minister of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht launches The National Concert Hall’s star-studded 2011/2012 International Concert Series.

Irish audiences can look forward to a series of some of the world’s most celebrated recitalists, conductors, orchestras and singers to include: The Philadelphia Orchestra with conductor Charles Dutoit and Danish violinist Janine Jansen, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Patrik Ringborg, conductor. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor /violinist Pinchas Zukerman and The London Symphony Orchestra with conductor Antonio Pappano and violinist Roman Simovid make a welcome return. New to the series are The Toulouse Orchestra with conductor Tugan Sokhiev and Alina Ibragimova, . This season’s recitalists include: pianist András Schiff, violinist Nicola Benedetti, pianist Stephen Hough, cellist Han-Na Chang. Britten Sinfonia, The King’s Singers and The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet also make their series debut.

It provides a wonderful opportunity for Irish people to hear some of the world’s most talented masters of musical artistry. A series of concerts to mark the 30th Anniversary year has also been planned, highlights of which include: a 30th Anniversary concert with the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra and pianist Gabriela Montero on 9th September, two nights of ‘Pink Martini –The Symphony Tour’ with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra on the 8th and 9th of October 2011, a performance by Grammy Award-winner Dianne Reeves, 30th November 2011 and a presentation of ‘Polar’; a stunning portrait of the polar Kingdoms with a unique love orchestral soundtrack arranged by John Harle, and performed by The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra on 11 December 2011 3pm/7pm. Also scheduled are two nights of Japanese Drumming ensemble ‘Kodo’ on 11 and 12 February 2012. The National Concert Hall’s International Concert Series 2011/2012 is supported by The Irish Times, as print media partner.
