On Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:00 A.M., the Honorable Lori E. Lightfoot, Mayor, called the Ciiy Council to order and noted pursuant to applicable law and her determination that attendanbe by remote means was necessary because an in-p9ryo1_me-eting was.not practical or prudent due to the declared public disaster caused by-QOVlp-19, the me_eting ivas being conducted by videoconference. The Honorable Andrea M. The following is said proposed resolution: WHEREAS, While we will greatly miss her, the members of this body_ are pleased to .ongritrtrte Andrea Telli on h1r reiirement as Commissioner of Chicago Public Library on nug-ust 31,2020, after nearly 30 years of exemplary service within the library system; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Telli was born and raised in Chicago._She received a bachelor's degree in Spanish from Drake University, a master's degree in Spanish Literature from Georgelown University, and a master's degree in Library Science from the University of lllinois at Champagne-Urbana; and WHEREAS, ln 1991, Commissioner Telli began her career with Chicago Public Library in the Special Collections and Preservation Division, where she helped to showcase rare and unique materials focusing on the history of Chicago; and WHEREAS, ln her time with Chicago Public Library, Commissioner Telli served as manager of the Humboldt Park Branch Library, Central District Chief, Assistant Commissi-oner of Neighborhood Services, and Deputy Commissioner of Public Services; and WHEREAS, Mayor Lori Lightfoot appointed Commissioner Telli to the positio.n of Commissloner of Chicago pu6tic Libraiy effective June 15, 2019. During Commissioner ietti'J ienrre, Chicago P-ublic Library eliririnated fines for overdue materials and expanded SunOaV f,orri, increising resident a-ccess to the library system and city services; and WHEREAS, Managing an annual budget of $130 Million, Commissio.ner Telli oversaw num"rous cairitat prSledts dedicated to ensuring that city neighborhoods have access to state-of-the-art, safe places to read and learn; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Telli administered one of the largest library sy.stems in th,e United Statei with three regional hubs, 77 neighborhood branches, and the system's flagship central library, the Harold washington Library center; and WHEREAS, A recognized champion of urban libraries, Commissioner Telli will enjoy retirement wiih ner hujband, a fellow librarian whom she met during her time in the Special Collections and Preservation Division; now, therefore, 22358 JOU RNAL--CITY COU NC I L--CH ICAGO 11t16t2020 Be tt Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 16th day of November,2020, do hereby congratulate Andrea Telli on the occasion of her retirement and commend her for her remarkable leadership over our great library system and within the City of Chicago; and Be tt Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Andrea Telli as a token of our appreciation and esteem. Nays - None. Alderman Thompson moved to reconsider the foregoing vote. The motion was lost. At this point in the proceedings, the Honorable Lori E. Lightfoot, Mayor, joined the members of the City Council in congratulating Andrea Telli on her retirement as the Commissioner of the Chicago Public Library. Reflecting on their longstanding friendship and common goal to "leave Chicago better than how we found it", Mayor Lightfoot lauded Ms. Telli for her dedicated service over the past 30 years within the city's library system to help ensure that our libraries have the resources they need to serve and enrich our neighborhoods. During her tenure as Commissioner, Ms. Tellis "eliminated library fines and fees, expanded Sunday hours, and supported capital projects dedicated to giving our neighborhoods safe, state-of{he-art library facilities to read, learn, and discover in", the Mayor observed, and as a result, "significantly increased residents' ability to utilize our library system and its services all across the city . and complemented our citywide efforts to remove barriers to access". Mayor Lightfoot then expressed appreciation to Commissioner Telli for her leadership and the lasting impact she has left on both our library system and the City of Chicago and extended best wishes on her retirement. Alderman Sposato then moved to allow Commissioner Telli the privilege of the floor to address the members of the City Council. The motion Prevailed. Commissioner Telli thanked Mayor Lightfoot and members of the City Council for the honor accorded her. Reflecting on her strong roots in Chicago, Commissioner Telli declared herself a neighborhood girl who was born and raised in the same house where she currently resides. Starting her career with the Chicago Public Library was "an honor and a pleasure" that was
