of - Essex Coastal Path Walk August 2020

As part of my High Sheriff Year Paul and I are walking from to as outlined below. It would be really good to have youth groups, local community groups, friends and family share in this experience by joining us on one or more of the 10 legs. Mindful of COVID-19 this is not an organised group event but an opportunity to encourage you to get out and see the beautiful Essex countryside and share the experience (with your group leaders in the case of youth groups) within your ‘bubbles’ and socially distanced from other walkers/bubbles. Details of the route that we will be taking will be available from next week (although this may need to be changed at short notice due to extenuating circumstances – as with all hikes!!)

Aim:

 Raise awareness of the beautiful Essex coastline, coastal towns and environmental issues.  Raise awareness and engage others in the pleasures of walking for physical and mental wellbeing.  Encourage and engage young people to experience the physical and mental benefits of being outdoors, walking in the countryside and to celebrate their achievements.

Although fund raising is not a key aim of the walk, should you wish to make a donation to The High Sheriffs’ Fund for the benefit of Essex-based charities it is always much appreciated. The HS fund is administered by Essex Community Foundation. Sort code: 40-51-62 Account number: 28 34 39 54 or by cheque to ‘The High Sheriffs’ Fund’ posted to me at Westwick Farm, Rookery Lane, North Fambridge, Essex. CM3 6LP. Contact no. to check final arrangements each day: 07710 449 628 Please keep calls to a minimum otherwise we will spend all our walk on the phone! E-mail outside of walking times: [email protected] Total mileage (approx.) 127 miles. Date of legs: Monday 10th August to Thursday 20th August excluding Saturday 15th August. Start time: Muster from 8.30am each day keeping social distance. Welcome introduction and briefing at 9.00am. Prompt departure at 9.15am Although not an exhaustive list, your walking needs will include: Suitable footwear (comfortable/stout hiking boots/shoes), waterproof clothing, rucksack, snacks, plenty of water, lunch, sunscreen, hat, first aid kit, camera and/or mobile phone, OS map for leg/legs walked, face mask/face covering if you wish to enter cafes/shops. You may also like to bring a pen and notebook to jot down your thoughts for a blog to be published by Visit Essex.

At lunchtime and at the end of each day there will be a short presentation to those who have completed a section of the walk.

We do hope to see you on our journey!

Warmest wishes
