Introduction to Monofin Course Standards and Overview
INTRODUCTION
This course is available to any participant seeking help with understanding of proper use of monofin and basic training exercised for proper technique form development.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Objective of this course is to familiarize students with the biomechanics of monofin propulsion and various dry land and pool exercises that will help in proper monofin swimming technique development.
PROGRAM PRE-REQUISITES
1. Minimum age of 18 years or 12 years with parental consent 2. Competent swimming skills
REQUIRED STUDENT EQUIPMENT
1. Monofin / snorkeling fins / swimsuit / kickboard 2. Optional: mask or goggles, center-line snorkel, wetsuit, weights and weight belt, neck- weight

WHO MAY TEACH A F.I.I. INTRODUCTION TO MONOFIN
This course may only be taught by a F.I.I. Specialty Instructor - Introduction to Monofin
STUDENT – INSTRUCTOR RATIOS
Confined Water - Maximum of 10 students to 1 instructor, as long as required quality, comprehensive and complete training can be guaranteed
RECOMMENDED COURSE MINIMUMS
Confined Water Time 1.5 Hours (1 x 1 Hours) - including theory presentation
Knowledge Development Overview
The following topics must be covered during this course. Instructors are allowed to use additional texts or materials that they feel these help present these topics.
A. Finswimming • Biomechanics of monofin stroke • Stretching
B. Equipment • Short bladed fins • Monofin types • Proper selection
C. Safety and Problem Management • Common practices in finswimming training

2 Confined Water
To receive F.I.I. Introduction to Monofin certification a student must engage and show the understanding of following skills and techniques to the satisfaction of the F.I.I. Instructor.
A. Dry Land Exercises • Kinesthetic awareness - wall exercise • Propulsion awareness - step exercise, standing undulation
B. In-water Exercises • Flips with short bladed fins • Flips with a monofin • Surface swim with short bladed fins • Kickboard swim with short bladed fins • Kickboard swim with a monofin • Surface swim with a monofin • Diving with short bladed fins • Back swim with short bladed fins or monofin • Side swim with short blade fins or monofin • UW swim with short bladed fins or monofin
Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete this course and receive F.I.I. Introduction to Monofin certification.
A student must: 1. Attend a full confined water session. 2. Demonstrate all required confine water skills and show an understanding of their application 3. Demonstrate safe and responsible practices.
An instructor must: 1. Submit the completed F.I.I. Course Completion Form to F.I.I. within 7 days of finishing the course for processing.
