RULES GOVERNING SHOW If you have not received your premium money by Nov. 1 current year contact the entry office, as the fair will honor NO claims after Dec 1. 1. Carefully review the Michigan State Fair Rules and Regulations before completing the entry form. 2. Entry and stall fees must accompany the entry. Exhibitors in this division shall be restricted to two entries in any one class. Do not make entries in Champion classes. 3. Ages of animals will be computed from January 1 current year. 4. In the group classes, the exhibitor who made the entry for the group class must wear the assigned number. 5. Exhibitors are permitted to borrow animals for Produce and Get of Sire classes. 6. Special classes will be held only for Michigan Bred animals. In order to qualify as Michigan Bred, the dam of the entry must have been Michigan owned at the time of breeding. If the registration papers do not show the name and address of the breeder, the Michigan Bred Affidavit must be completed by the current owner. It is not necessary that the present­ owner be a Michigan resident. A copy of the registration papers and the affidavit, (if applicable), must accompany the entry. No entry will be considered valid unless a copy of the registration papers or affidavit if applicable, accompany the entry form. a. There will be no entry fee in Michigan Bred classes. b. Height Varification- Measurement time will be one hour before the classes start. 7:00 a.m Classes in this section are open to Registered Miniature Horses, 38” and under. Classes will be conducted according to the current ASPC/AMHR rules.

Classes may be entered 1 hour before the session begins. Classes entered after will have a double entry fee. MICHIGAN BRED CLASSES In order to qualify as Michigan Bred, the dam of the entry must have been Michigan owned at the time of breeding. If the registration papers do not show the name and address of the breeder, the Michigan Bred Affidavit must be completed by the current owner. It is not necessary that the present owner be a Michigan resident. A copy of the registration papers or the affidavit if applicable must accompany the entry. STABLING Stalls are large and very close to the show ring. Shavings & Hay- available for purchase on the grounds and delivered to your stall. Wash racks and water is available close to stalls.

There is a maximum of two horses per stall, property of the same owner. There is an additional $5.00 for the additional horse per stall.

Show Office: The show office will be located in the Livestock Entry Office south of the small outdoor ring, next to the yellow horse barn. Please check in upon arrival and during the show for any questions. There will be a show representative there to answer your questions. Show office will be open from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday from 7:00 am to end of show. Stabling: Blocks of stalls will be labeled with coach’s/group names. Team & Coach’s name on entry form is very important for this purpose.

RULES GOVERNING SHOW

The “Michigan State Fair Youth Horse Show” is open to all youth in the state. The show will run in accordance to the rules governing the high school equestrian team competition with the exception that the youth may compete at the age of 9 yrs through the age of 19 as of January 1 current year. Junior classes are for riders through grade 8, walk-trot classes are only for riders who are at a walk trot level (no classes requiring a canter may be entered), and the remaining classes are for high school student’s grades 9th through 12th and/or through the age of 19 (as of January 1 current year). Riders are encouraged to create new “teams” for this competition from their area. If specific high schools are creating teams we ask that they give themselves a team name other than something with the word “District” in it. 4-H clubs and individual riders are encouraged to participate with one or more riders making up a team. A senior graduating in the spring of 2009 is eligible to compete on a senior team. Each exhibitor must fill out an exhibitor entry form. Be sure to provide the team name that you will be competing on and the adult representative (Coach) responsible for that team. A team roster listing all members and classes they are entering must be submitted by the coach. Complete an IRS W-9 form for each exhibitor. NEGATIVE COGGINS - Current Calandar Year - Must have coggins with you upon arrival. The riders participating shall know and abide by the following rules and guidelines for the “Michigan State Fair Youth Show”. • Teams are required to keep stall area neat and clean. • Manure must be removed from wash racks. • Riders shall be limited to two mounts. • Members of immediate family may share mounts. • TRANSPORTATION is the responsibility of each team member. • NO STALLIONS shall be allowed. • A rider cannot participate more than once in any one event. • Horses ridden in the “Michigan State Fair Youth Horse Show” competition must be serviceably sound. This means the horse must not show evidence of lameness, broken wind, or any other signs of unsoundness. • No rider is allowed to use alcoholic beverages, smoking materials, illegal drugs, or foul language while attending the “Michigan State Fair Youth Show”. • No rider is allowed to use any kind of electrical transmitting devices during the “Michigan State Fair Youth Show”. • Unsportsmanlike conduct or abusive behavior towards animals will not be tolerated. • Failure to abide by the rules of the”Michigan State Fair Youth Horse Show” could lead to any or all of the following: 1) Loss of points for rider or team 2) Disqualification for rider or team Each team shall have 63 slots (classes) available. The following will help coaches divide their teams according to the “Michigan Stae Fair Youth Horse Show” guidelines. If you are a team with: 10 riders- allot 7 slots for 3 riders and 6 slots for 7 riders 9 riders- allot 7 slots for each rider 8 riders- allot 8 slots for 7 riders and 7 slots for 1 rider 7 riders- allot 9 slots for each rider 6 riders- allot 11 slots for 3 riders and 10 slots for 3 riders 5 riders- allot 13 slots for 3 riders and 12 slots for 2 riders 4 riders- allot 16 slots for 3 riders and 15 slots for 1 rider 3 or 2 riders- allot 17 slots each 1 rider- allot 16 slots

Coaches will have the option of registering riders in Western Riding Pattern TBA, Saddle Seat Pattern TBA, Equitation Over Fences TBA, Trail, and the Two-Person Relay Race with a limit of THREE entries per class per team, with the remaining classes to have a limit of FOUR entries per class per team. There will be a “Coaches Meeting” with the judges to discuss judging rules prior to commencement of the first class. All Coaches will have the option to check over the Equitation Over Fences and Trail courses prior to the commencement of said class. The team that has the highest number of points at the completion of all events shall be considered the winner. There will be no individual class entry fee for this show. Each exhibitor will be required to pay the $9.00 exhibitor fee and $10.00 office fee. Parking, camping and stall fees are the responsibility of each exhibitor. The Michigan State Fair will award premiums according to the following schedule. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th $30 $25 $24 $23 $22 $21 $20 $19 $18 $17 Premiums and ribbons awarded to 10th place in the finals. Premiums will be paid to the rider placing in the event. Premiums for the team events will be paid to the person entered in the class.

If you have not received your premium money by Nov 1 current year contact the entry office, as the fair will honor NO claims after Dec 1. Each participant will recieve a Michigan State Fair pin. Best Decorated Team Stalls Award will be presented at the end of the show to the Best Team Display. Teams are encouraged to decorate their stall area, keeping in mind not to use balloons or block aisles. CLASSES OFFERED- Classes will be held in the Coliseum and the North Outside arena. The South Outside arena will be used for warm-up and the Trail Class.
