The Spanish Colonial Revival house was built in 1926 by Marion Koogler McNay, Tan oil heiress, artist, and collector who also had a taste for entertaining and celebrating in style. In 1950, Mrs. McNay generously left her residence, her art collection of 700 works, and an endowment to create the first museum of modern art in Texas.
