INTERIOR DESIGN • PLANNING About CJMW Architecture

Founded in 1906, CJMW Architecture is a 45-person firm, and one of the Southeast’s oldest architecture and interior design practices. Our work takes us throughout the southeast from offices in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Lynchburg, Virginia. We excel at making local and long distance owner relationships seamless, meeting face to face frequently and using some simple technologies to meet and communicate as often as the project might require.

Interior design is an integral part of the firm’s practice – our 10-person Interior Design group offers turnkey services ranging from space planning and programming to materials selection and furniture procurement. Our award-winning work runs the gamut from restaurants, hotels and public venues to museums, theatres, and corporate offices.

No matter what type of space we’re designing, our work is driven by your goals. We bring our focus and experience to every project, attentively listening to your needs from the development of the initial strategy through project design and management. Our people-centered designs reflect and express your institutional culture through color, texture, and material while remaining firmly grounded in functionality and the economic structure of an established budget.

The range of our work lends itself to cross-pollination of ideas, trends and budget-conscious innovations that our clients tell us is invaluable.

We are: purposeful, innovative, focused on results

The Boeing Company Delivery Center LEED & Sustainable Design

At CJMW Architecture, we’ve worked with clients to design certified green buildings and spaces for more than twelve years. We’ve been designing smart buildings for more than a century. We emphasize long term energy savings, life cycle cost factors, and resource sustainability in every project we design. The result is beautiful, healthy buildings for work, study, play, and life.

Our dedication to sustainable design goes beyond the bounds of our client practice. CJMW Architecture professionals were instrumental in helping develop both a local and a state chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Through our early involvement in USGBC pilot projects, CJMW Architecture helped develop the guidelines for what eventually became LEED EB (LEED for Existing Buildings) and LEED Retail.

Part of our expertise lies in helping clients determine what level of green makes sense for their particular project vision and budget. Our experience with sustainable design allows us to address green building at all levels. This experience includes the design of projects that range from inclusion of basic sustainable design features to LEED certification at various levels as well as independent LEED consultancy.

Engaged. In selecting a design firm, it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate Innovative. firms from one another. Everyone shows pretty pictures, everyone talks about how they listen to clients and perform well. Dependable.

So what makes CJMW different? Experienced. First, we see the design process as a partnership. In addition to being a true team player, what that means is that we partner with each client, taking on the project as if it were our own. Clients consistently tell us our level of care and dedication differentiates us from other firms.

We approach projects from a holistic viewpoint. We’ll talk about long- range goals for the project so we make sure the design and selection of materials supports those goals. We treat schedules and budgets with respect, balancing the creative and the practical from start to finish.

We understand that function is key - it doesn’t matter how pretty a space is if it doesn’t support your operations or work the way you need it to work. Our understanding of operations in multiple project types means we bring innovative solutions from other industries to benefit your project.

We learn who you are and infuse that knowledge into every part of the design. Every image you see in this portfolio has a distinct identity. That’s because every client and project is different. From small details to the very form of the building, the design expresses your culture, brand, and vision. understanding the big picture, never losing sight of the details References

I’ve been working with the architects and interior designers at CJMW Architecture for 12 years and through many projects. Right from the start, the design team established themselves as our partners, drawing out our ideas and vision and then translating these into designs that are on point, and yet more than we thought possible.

This creative, talented team understands the big picture but never loses sight of the details. I know I can count on them to make everything from the smallest renovation to the largest multi-phased project smooth and easy.

An attribute that I admire of the CJMW team is the ability and patience to guide a collaborative design process so that all stakeholders have had an opportunity to represent their ideas and opinions. This is of great value to the end product as the unique needs and perspectives of all has been considered. I’ve witnessed this first hand from across all levels of the organization and this behavior is clearly representative of CJMW’s service culture.
