BBC Radio International Essential Mix – Is the world’s favourite DJ mix show BBC Radio International is delighted to offer Essential Mix for licensing to international broadcasters and airlines. The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast weekly in UK. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music: from Daft Punk to Disclosure, the list of DJs who have graced the turntables reads like a who’s who of dance and electronic music. The world’s best DJs and artists are given free reign to showcase their talents for two uninterrupted hours every week. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and a line of world-renowned DJs. It features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Pete Tong and/or presenter DJs. With a broadcast run in excess of 20 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live. The first Essential Mix was broadcast in October 1993, on BBC Radio 1. The first DJ was Pete Tong. Two decades later and The Essential Mix celebrated its 20th Anniversary by hosting a night at The Warehouse Project in Manchester in November 2013. And in 2018 the programme celebrates its 25 anniversary with a series of special programmes and events. Have a question or want to know more about a specific genre or programme?
