AUGUST MANGIN SPECIAL TEAMS QUALITY CONTROL 1ST NFL SEASON × 1ST WITH 49ERS

August Mangin is in his first season as the 49ers special teams qual- ity control coach. He joined the 49ers after spending the previous two seasons (2019-20) as a lead defensive analyst at Louisiana State University. Last season, LSU’s defense was led by freshman CB Eli Ricks who registered a team-high four interceptions to go along with 20 tack- les. Senior OLB Andre Anthony also added 5.5 sacks and 24 tackles. In his first season with LSU in 2019, Mangin and the Tigers capped off a memorable season with a 42-25 victory over the University of Clemson to win the CFP National Championship. LSU finished 15-0, as the team allowed an average of 21.9 points per game and just 222.7 passing yards per game. Mangin went to LSU following one season (2018) as a special teams analyst at the . The Crimson Tide finished the season with a 14-1 record, which included a trip to the College Foot- ball Playoff. Alabama averaged 45.6 points per game and allowed just 18.1 points per game on the year. Northwestern State’s punt coverage unit led the NCAA in punt return defense during Mangin’s first season back with the school in 2014, allowing nine punt return yards all season. From 2014-15, the Demons allowed a total of 85 punt return yards.
