I wasn't as worried for the Mulder one in this pair of books, because his story as a teenager practically writes itself. The presence of psychic phenomena he has Scully experience undercuts the weirdness she will experience for the first time when working with Mulder. Even in her younger years, Scully remains firmly grounded in the scientific method. He liked the idea, and it was run past FOX and Chris Carter so that we could get permission to do the books and The X-Files Origins: Devils Advocate for the stories to be official canon.
