His top quote, however, was on the ongoing controversy surrounding starting either J.T. Barrett or at the position.

Comments Head coach Steve Sarkisian led the charge for USC. Unlike Ohio State, non-football personnel also made USC’s list with the school’s athletic director also making the top five most quoted.

He also received a significant spike after commenting in an ESPN interview that despite Alabama having won four championships in the last eight years, he felt they should have won all eight. Men’s basketball coach Avery Johnson was the only non-football coach to appear in any of the schools’ top five lists. The hiring of the former NBA player garnered significant coverage, which highlighted that Alabama could become just as well- known for basketball as for football.

Comments The majority of Baylor’s top spokespeople were quoted in connection to a legal matter the school during the analysis timeframe, in which a student member of the football team was convicted of sexual assault. This is reflected by the prominence of the school’s president/chancellor and director of athletics on the top five most quoted list. Aside from that, much of the commentary from top spokesperson and head coach Art Briles was around training camp, the beginning of the season, and trying to get over last year’s upset at the Cotton Bowl (in which Michigan overcame a 20- fourth quarter deficit to upset Baylor).
