The Champaign Park District is a special district of local government with its own financial and legal responsibilities. It is governed by five elected residents of Champaign who give their services to the commu- nity. The Park Board holds its regular meetings on the second Wednes- day of each month at 7 pm at the Bresnan Meeting Center, 706 Kenwood Road. Residents are invited to attend and are welcome to make sug- gestions or comments to improve the programs or facilities offered. The Champaign Park District's 60 parks total over 570 acres. Fifteen facilities are available for a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Chicago Bulls Training Academy The Chicago Bulls Training Academy is for boys and girls ages 6 to 14. The Youth Soccer Leagues focus on fun, sportsmanship, instruction and opportunity. All players will receive approximately equal playing time. Each league uses soccer balls, goals and fields proportional to the age group playing. The Youth Soccer Leagues have two sessions: Fall (Sept – Oct) and Spring (April – May). Participants registering in the Fall are automati- cally signed up for he Spring session. Weather permitting, teams will play 7 games in the Fall and 7 games in the Spring. Adult Soccer League The United Soccer Federation of Central Illinois runs adult soccer in the Champaign- Urbana area in partnership with the Champaign and Urbana Park Districts. The USFCI runs multiple divisions and offers three seasons a year. Games are played at the Dodds Soccer Complex and the Brookens Center. Registration is by team only. Boating Safety Course The CPD, in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Natural Re- sources, will be conducting an eight hour boating safety training course. Instruction in rules of the water, boating law, boat construction and design, personal safety and water sports will be covered. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Boating Safety Certificate, which is required for those persons between the ages of 12-17 years who wish to operate a motor-driven boat without an adult supervi- sor. Champaign Park District residents may begin registering for summer programs immediately. Any walk-in, mail-in, or online registration that is received before May 1 will be entered into a computerized lottery on that day. After the lottery is complete, additional resident registration will be processed as it is received. Non-residents may begin registering Monday, May 8. It is recommended that you submit your registration as early as possible to take advantage of the lottery.
