92 Continuing Medical Education Programmes

The Department of Neurology in NRIAS has conducted two CME Programs in the year 2012

1. MOVEMENT DISORDERS, which was conducted on 19th Aug 2012. The invited dignitary was Prof U Meenakshi Sundaram from SRMC, Chennai, who delivered serial lectures on “Approach to a patient with Movement disorders”, “Advances in the management of Parkinson disease”. The chair persons were Dr Vijaya and Dr Srinivasa Reddy. The didactic case discussions were followed which were organized by Dr Pramod Ch, Dr Susmitha Y, Dr Shaik Afsar Pasha.

A workshop on Inj Botulinum Toxin Administration in various movement disorders was undertaken by Prof U Meenakshi Sundaram, followed by distribution of awards to the case presenters.

2. PRECEPTORSHIP PROGRAMME on THROMBOLYSIS IN ACUTE ISCHEMIC STROKE was conducted on 28.10.2012 which was organized by Dr Ch Pramod and Dr Shaik Afsar Pasha. Serial academic lectures were initiated by Dr Ch Pramod (Stroke Scenario in India. Need for Preceptor Program), Dr Shaik Afsar Pasha (Review of Clinical Trials & Guidelines), followed by Dr Mahesh Joshi (Pre hospital and ED management of stroke), Dr.Vara Prasad (Imaging modalities in AIS), Dr Lokesh (Role of TCD in AIS), Dr Vijaya (RTPA – inclusion and exclusion criteria and IV and IA administration), Dr Narayana (Monitoring of post RTPA patients), Dr Shaik Arif Pasha (ICU management of Acute ischemic stroke), followed by Dr Laxmi Prasanna (Acute intervention of stroke with IA devices) and it was ended with formulation of stroke team.

3. ZONAL CME PROGRAM conducted on 26.02.2012 by ENT Department in Biochemistry Lecture Gallery. Staff and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges attended. Several cases were discussed.

4. A ZONAL CME PROGRAM was conducted on 25th March 2012 by the Department of General Surgery on Surgical Anatomy of the Beast, Etiology pathogenesis of Carcinoma Breast, Surgical management of breast and Chemotherapy of breast. Staff and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges attended.

5. A ZONAL CME PROGRAM was conducted on 25th March 2012 by the Department of TB & CD. Dr Krishna Reddy, Medical Oncologist given a lecture on Chemotherapy of Lung Cancer and two clinical case discussions conducted. Staff and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges attended.

6. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 29.04.2012 by the Department of Biochemistry on Biochemical updates in the diagnosis of Cardiac Disorders. Dr K Santhi Naidu, HOD of Department of Laboratory Medicine, Care Hospitals, Hyderabad given lecture on

93 “Biomarkers in Cardio Renal Syndrome”. Dr Vidya Desai, Assistant Professor given lecture on “Potential role of stem cell technology in Cardiac disorders”. Dr V Siva Prabodh, Professor has given a lecture on “Progression of Biomarkers in diagnosis of Acute myocardial infarction”. Conducted Demonstration of Hb / Protein Electrophoresis on semi automated analyzer in Central Research Lab. Faculty and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges attended the program.

7. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 29.04.2012 by the Department of Community Medicine. Several Staff members and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges attended the program. Dr Shyamalatha Dasari, faculty member of Community Medicine gave a talk on “Epidemiological study methods – Cross sectional and case control studies”. A Lecture given by Dr TSR.Sai, Professor & HOD, Community Medicine on “Causal associations in Epidemiology”. Dr Faroukh Ahmed gave a speech on “Community Medicine as a subject and its role in the modern day”. Dr Ravi Prabhu, Professor & HOD, SVMC, Tirupati given a lecture on “Bias and Confounding” followed by a lecture by Dr T S R Sai on “Prospective Studies”. And also conducted a problem solving session followed with discussion on practical methods.

8. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 27.05.2012 by the department of OB & GY on Basic Obstetrics Skills and Procedures. Dr Saritha, Associate Professor of Siddartha Medical College delivered a lecture on ‘Breech Delivery’, Dr S Raja Kumari of Katuri Medical College on ‘Epsiotomy’, Dr Prabhavathi, Professor, Guntur Medical College on ‘Forceps’ and Dr.Murmu, Associate Professor, ASRAM Medical College spoke on ‘Craniotomy’ and Dr Usha Nag, Associate Professor of PSIMS on ‘Vacuum’. Two guest speakers Dr Nuzhat Aziz delivered a Guest lecture on ‘Shoulder Dystocia’ and Dr Tarakeswari on ‘Post Partum Haemorrhage drill’. Interactive session conducted on Basic Obstetric Skills i.e. abdominal palpation, clinical assessment of the pelvis and Cephalo pelvic disproportion, Pelvis and fetal skull.

9. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 27.05.2012 by the department of Psychiatry. Four lectures were conducted. Several Staff members and Post Graduate students from various Medical Colleges were attended the program.

10. On 19th August 2012 a Zonal CME program was conducted by department of Paediatrics. Staff members and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges were attended. Dr Paturi Rama Rao, Andhra Hospital, Vijayawada delivered a lecture on “Approach to a critically ill child” and Dr Ramana Reddy, Neurologist on “Approach to unconscious child” and Dr Biju Govind, Professor, Dept of Cardiology on “Approach to Congenital Heart Diseases”. Dr Anakamma Rao, Associate, Professor, Radiology delivered lecture on ‘Neuro- Imaging in children’ and Dr B Vijaya Lakshmi, Associate Professor, Paediatrics on ‘Rational Drug Therapy in children’.

94 11. On 26th August 2012 a ZONAL CME was conducted by Department of Anaesthesiology. Dr T Venugopala Rao, Registrar, Dr NTRUHS attended as Chief Guest and delivered a lecture on “Anaesthesia for day care surgeries”. Dr Sk.Mastan Saheb, Professor & HOD, Anaesthesiology delivered a lecture on “Anaesthesia for Valvular Heart Diseases”. Dr Y Nirmala Devi, Professor, Guntur Medical College given a lecture on “Medico-legal aspects related to Anaesthesia”. Conducted a quiz program followed by an onsite visit and practical demonstration of Medical Gas Pipeline Systems by Dr.Y.Srivishnuvardhan, Associate Professor. And also conducted an interactive session in which the installation, maintenance and working dynamics of liquid oxygen tank, cylinder manifolds, central compressed air, central vacuum and the pipeline distribution system from the gas plant till the operating room.

12. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 28.10.2012 by the Department of Anatomy. Staff members and Post Graduate students of various Medical Colleges attended. Two lectures were given by Anatomy faculty and one lecture by HOD, Radiology, NRIGH. Quiz program was conducted.

13. On 04th November 2012 a ZONAL CME Program was conducted by department of Forensic Medicine. Dr P Vijaya Kumar, Professor & HOD, PSIMS delivered a lecture on “Intricacies of Hanging cases” and Dr Lakshmi Kumar, Professor & HOD, ASRAM given a lecture on “Legal issues in Medical Practice”. Dr G V Nagi Reddy, Professor & HOd, NRIMC delivered a lecture on “Pedagogy – What and How” and Dr Ch Srinivas on “Medical Ethics”.

14. STATE LEVEL IRIA CME ON HEAD AND NECK IMAGING was conducted on 22nd & 23rd September, 2012 by the Department of Radio-Diagnosis.

15. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 25th November 2012 by the department of Radiology. An interactive session was conducted on variable moralities with students. Several faculty members and Post Graduate students were attended the program.

16. A ZONAL CME was conducted on 02nd December 2012 by the department of Orthopaedics on Peripheral Nerve Injuries, Clinical and diagnostic evaluation, Nerve Repair Procedures, Role of tendon transfer.
