Pirates have a rich history of Australian representatives including; See the flyer attached for our first social event of the year. - Elspeth Denning - Neil Hawgood - Jackie Perera - Michelle Hager - Mark Hager - Lee Capes - Kim Walker - Hope Munro - Emily Halliday - Kobie McGurk - Bevan George - Kate Starre Men’s Premier League The men’s season is underway hear from captain, Dane Angwin, about their start to the season: With the 2017 season well and truly underway it’s now time to reflect on what has been an exciting start to a new era for the club. With the arrival of newly appointed head coach Charlie Gaudoin and the addition of three AIS representatives Ben Craig (NSW), Casey Hammond (VIC) and Andrew Charter (ACT) the men’s side has looked to be much more competitive this year. Round one vs Old Aquinians: Unfortunately we started slow and went into the main break 2 nil down. But through some good resilience we were able to wrestle the match back a little. Both teams had multiple chances to take the game but regrettably Old Aquinians took the win 4-2. Goal scorers: Rhys Angwin, Adam Piggott (CUHC) Des Abbot, Joel Carrol, Tarrant Haami-Jones and Dan Robertson (Old Aquinians). Best Players: Jamie White, Christian Nettleton, and Rhys Angwin. Round 2 vs OGMHC: AIS player Andrew Charter made his Debut for the club and he immediately showed why he is one of the best in the business cancelling out multiple shots from the opposition. The game was played mainly in the middle of the ground with both teams having multiple chances to steal the win, with the end result 1-1. Goal scorers: Tom Coates (CUHC), Chris Cirello (OGMHC). Best Players: Andrew Charter, Tom Coates, and Jamie White. Round 3 vs last year’s premiers Wasps: We welcomed fellow AIS players Ben Craig and Casey Hammond to make their Debuts for the club. The game was a grind from the start with both teams having numerous chances. The premiers struck first and continued to look dangerous. Through some excellent team defence we were able to fight our way back then eventually run away 3-1 with the win thanks to 3 PC conversions. Goal Scorers: Brandon Gibbs (Wasps), Ben Craig 3 (CUHC) Best players: Ben Craig, Jordan Edmunds, Casey Hammond and Andrew Charter. Round 4 vs UWA: With our record against UWA not being great over the last few years, this game would be a huge test. The game was predominantly played in UWA’s forward half but through some great team defence we were able to see off countless attacks on goal. UWA eventually found the net, beating us 2 nil. Goal Scorers: James Royce, Frazer Gerrard (UWA) Best Players: Christian Nettleton, Casey Hammond and Ben Craig. The new 2017|2018 Entertainment Books are here: Thank you to those who pre ordered the New Entertainment Book from Curtin University Hockey Club. The Books are now available to collect from us! New uniform: Doesn’t everyone look great in their new uniform – lucky we love orange. U18s National Championships: We had three CUHC representatives at the women’s u18s national championships in Tasmania. Sarah Kaesler, Sophie Johnston and Sarah Byrnes won bronze beating Victoria 4-1. Sarah Kaesler scored an impressive 6 goals (1 goal shy of leading goal scorer) while Sarah Byrnes netted 3. AIS draft players This year we were lucky enough to pick up four new AIS players. For the men we recruited Andrew Charter, Casey Hammond and Ben Craig. The boys played their first game vs WASPS and made a huge impact leading us to a 3-1 win. Andrew is from ACT, Casey from VIC and Ben from NSW. Get down to watch some world class hockey on display in our colours! We also saw Kaitlin Nobbs return to the club after a ‘gap’ year. Kaitlin played her junior hockey with the club before moving to NSW. And not to forget Georgia Nanscawen (VIC) who joins the pirate ship for her 6th year.
