Isle of Man Social Security Legislation Volumes Contents Isle of Man Social Security Legislation Volumes Contents The electronic version of the Social Security Legislation Volumes are made up of links to the original documents used for the former paper-based Volume files or, where the legislation has not been amended since it was made, to the original document that was approved by Tynwald (more than one Statutory Instrument may be applied by that document). Consolidated documents from the volume files will have “socsec/ss/” before the name of the pdf in the hyperlink. Some of the PDFs contain bookmarks, these can be used to see the contents of, and navigate within, the PDFs. Some of the documents contain more than one Order or Regulations and the bookmarks may be used to navigate to the different Orders or Regulations within that document. To find out when Social Security Legislation was last amended please see Social Security News which provides details of our Orders approved by Tynwald. Those Orders can be viewed within the Order paper for the relevant Tynwald sitting. The latest supplement incorporates amendments made at the May and November 2018 Tynwald sittings. Note: From 1 April 2014 the Transfer of Functions (Health and Social Care) Order 2014 (SD2014/0008) provided for the transfer of the social security functions of the former Department of Social Care to the Treasury. Isle of Man Social Security Legislation Volumes Contents From 24 November 2017 the Transfer of Functions (Economic Development and Education) Order 2017 (SD2017/0325) renamed the Department of Economic Development as the Department for Enterprise, renamed the Department of Education and Children as the Department of Education, Sport and Culture and transferred certain functions of the former Departments to the Treasury. Statutory Documents and Government Circulars as enacted may be found by visiting the Tynwald website or by emailing the Tynwald library. Manx primary legislation is available in revised format by visiting the Isle of Man Legislation Website. Social security legislation as it has effect in Great Britain can be accessed from the legislation.gov.uk website. How to search for legislation If you know the SD/GC/SI number or title of the legislation Press “Ctrl” and “F” and type your search term(s) within the find box. Where you know the GC, SD or SI number of the legislation you are searching for just use the numbers only i.e. S.I. 2000/3188 is searched as 2000/3188, SD26/00 is searched as 26/00 etc. Searches for Statutory Instruments may result in a hit with no hyperlink to it as those that simply amend other provisions are not reproduced. These Statutory Instruments are included in the table at the end of this document. Bookmarks/subjects This PDF contains bookmarks which divide the legislation into primary legislation and subordinate legislation. The United Kingdom applied primary legislation has been divided into Acts applied under the Social Security Act 2000, the Pension Schemes Act 1995 or under both of those Acts. Subordinate legislation reproduced in the volumes has been listed under subjects with entries under more than one subject where necessary. There is then a list of Statutory Instruments applied to the Island but not reproduced in the Volumes. Typefaces Italic Garamond 14 print indicates provisions made prospectively but not yet in force. The following fonts are also used: Arial 11 print indicates that either the provision is repealed but has been saved for certain purposes or the text so printed is now repealed or otherwise inoperative, but reproduced in order to make sense of provisions which remain in force. Italic Times New Roman 11 print indicates that the text is not part of the legislation but is there as a reference note. Courier 10 print indicates legislation that amends other provisions but has been reproduced within the applying instrument for certain circumstances. Cambridge University Press 978-1-108-42695-4 — Red Tape Robin Ellison Frontmatter More Information RED TAPE Red Tape tells the sometimes astonishing story of the making of laws, both good and bad, the recent explosion in rule making and the failure of repeated attempts to rationalise the statute books – even governments themselves are concerned about the increasing number and complexity of our laws. Society requires the rule of law, but the rule of too much law means that the general public faces frustrating excesses created by overzeal- ous regulators and lawmakers. Robin Ellison reveals the failure of repeated attempts to limit the number and complexity of new laws, and the expan- sion of regulators. He challenges the legislature to introduce fewer yet bet- ter laws and regulators by encouraging lawmakers to adopt practices that improve the eiciency of the law and the lives of everyone. Too much law leads to frustration for all – Red Tape is a long overdue exposé of our legal system for practitioners and consumers alike. robin ellison is a solicitor, a consultant with an international law irm, Pinsent Masons, where he specialises in the development of pensions and related inancial services products for insurers and other providers, and is the Cass Business School Professor of Pensions Law and Economics, City, University of London.
