CASE STUDY | TN 516 AeroAggregates UL-FGA G15 Ultra-Lightweight Foamed Glass Aggregate PROJECT INFORMATION PROJECT South Capitol Street OWNER District Department of Transportation (DDOT) LOCATION Washington, DC CONTRACTOR South Capitol Bridgebuilders, JV between Archer Western Construction LLC (Walsh Group) and Granite Construction Co. DATE September 2019 VOLUME 11,000 CY HIGHLY FRICTIONAL • NON-LEACHING • ROT-RESISTANT • NON-FLAMMABLE • DURABLE • SAFE • The new South Capitol Bridge, also known as the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, is a key link for Washington DC over the Anacostia River as it handles commuter traffic travelling between the city and Prince George’s County, Maryland, and from Southern Maryland. • The $441 million USD design-build contract is the biggest infrastructure project handled by DDOT to date. Also included in the project is the rebuilding and reconfiguring of the Suitland Parkway/I-295 interchange, as well as two new interchanges at either end of the bridge. • Two large, old sewer lines (over 9 ft wide) near the south interchange were a design challenge that was addressed using UL- FGA. The utility company considers these old and fragile sewers critical pieces of infrastructure. • UL-FGA was used to raise the grade for the new interchange to minimizing surcharge on the critical sewers and the surrounding soft soils. South Capitol Street Urban Design Study The National Capital Planning Commission The District of Columbia Office of Planning January 2003 2 South Capitol Street Urban Design Study The National Capital Planning Commission The District of Columbia Office of Planning Chan Krieger & Associates Architecture & Urban Design Economic Research Associates (ERA) Economic Development January 2003 South Capitol Street Urban Design Study 1 2 Dear Friends and Colleagues: Great city streets are the very measure of urbanity. They are the stage for city life, the place of public contact, and the intersection where com- mercial enterprise and civic aspiration combine. The Champs Elysees in Paris, Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, and Unter den Linden in Berlin all demonstrate how cohesive and dynamic streets define and animate the life of their cities. South Capitol Street can be such a place. This one-mile stretch from the U.S. Capitol to a magnificent waterfront terminus on the Anacostia River has all the potential to rival the great urban boulevards of the world. With bold vision and creative leadership, South Capitol can be reborn as a vibrant city street for Washington residents and as a National Capital destination for all Americans. We envision the Corridor as a bustling mix of shops, offices, hotels, apartments, civic art, and open space. Where the street meets the river could be the site of a major civic feature such as a museum or memorial and offer additional attractions such as restau- rants, concerts, marinas and waterfront entertainment. This South Capitol Street and Urban Design Study was a cooperative effort between the District’s Office of Planning and the National Capital Planning Commission.

  • November 9, 2015 Held at 200 I St. SE, Washington DC 20003 Roger Moffatt, Chair
Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6D Minutes of Business Meeting – November 9, 2015 Held at 200 I St. SE, Washington DC 20003 Roger Moffatt, Chair *These minutes were approved at the following business meeting, December 14th, 2015. Before the meeting, Craig Stouffer of the DC United reported on the team’s 2015 season, community engagement (the United’s afterschool program has merged with DC Scores, unifying the soccer curriculum for Amidon and Jefferson), and plans to update the community at a future meeting about progress on construction of the new stadium. CM Litsky asked when the team will take title to the land, and Mr. Stouffer’s understanding is that Pepco lines on the site limit how much excavation can occur. There will be an update at the December ANC meeting. CMs Litsky and Lightman also encouraged the United to provide transportation for fans between the Metro and the stadium, and CM Moffat urged the team to locate parking for fans. Also before the meeting, Tracy Harrison, VP of Clinical Administration at Unity Health Care, presented on plans to renovate the Southwest health center. They are planning a small remodel of the site. It is an interior renovation only. They cannot afford to replace the elevator in the building since they only rent it from the District, so they are moving all patient services to the first floor. This includes the WIC center and patient scheduling. They will make room for this by removing paper records now that they use electronic records. They will also discontinue dental services; current dental patients can go to Brentwood or Parkside, which have enough capacity to accommodate the patients.
