2017-11-21 12:06 CET Morrissey väcker känslor! I fredags släpptes Morrisseys nya album "Low in high school" och han har minst sagt väckt känslor - dessutom bjuder albumet på några guldkorn. GAFFA beskriver honom som ”en viktig artist och konstnär, som trots tveksamheter och märkliga kommentarer förtjänar sin plats i rampljuset”, och att skivan innehåller ”vass och sarkastisk Morrisseylyrik när den är som bäst.” Aftonbladet fortsätter, ”Moz popsensibilitet skönjs i ’Jackie’s only happy when she’s up on stage’, vars snygga ackordskiftningar och stråkar tänder en försiktig dröm om det perfekta Morrissey & Morricone-albumet”, för att sedan konkludera med att det ändå är ”ett fascinerande kapitel i historien om vår kanske största, ännu levande, popikon.” DN menar att ”Home is a question mark” är hans ”mest självlysande låt sedan ’First of the gang to die.’” Morrissey är en provokatör med en sällsynt förmåga att väva samman narrativ. ”Low in high school” är hans första studioalbum sedan 2014 och hans första som ges ut via BMG. Albumet spelades in i La Fabrique i Frankrike, samt i Ennio Morricones studio i Rom. För produktionen står Joe Chiccarelli som tidigare jobbat med Frank Zappa, The Strokes och The White Stripes för att nämna några. Efter att han slog igenom med The Smiths har Morrissey gått vidare för att skörda ännu större framgångar som soloartist. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Jose Anguiano [email protected] Mexican Blood, American Heart: Listening for Home, Gender and Affect in Chicana/o Smiths/Morrissey fandom This Night Has Opened My Eyes On December 10th 2009 Morrissey was in concert in Los Angeles in support of his new release “Swords,” a compilation of previously unreleased B-sides. I ventured out there with two friends acting as research assistants, a video camera, an audio recorder, and a clip board full of research consent forms to see if any fans would talk with me about their Morrissey fandom. We arrived at 3:30pm to find approximately thirty people waiting in line for a show that started at 8:00pm. The low number of fans waiting in line reflected the fact that most fans had reserved seats except for small general admission “pit” at the front of the stage. All the fans in line had general admission tickets and arrived as early as they could to vie for a spot near the front of the stage. The fans appeared to be of various ethnic backgrounds, ages and styles of dress. I noticed that whites and Latinos made up most of the fans in line but I would later find much more diversity in ethnic backgrounds as I went around and talked with fans. Of interest to me right away was the one African-American woman in line, who would later refuse to even speak to us, the young Latino rockabilly kids in the middle of the pack and the group of white youth that were first in line.
