NJ TRANSIT, the City of Jersey City, the County of Hudson, and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority funded the work effort. It was prepared by the Bus Service Planning staff at NJ TRANSIT with input from a Technical Advisory Committee composed of individuals representing the funding agencies. The focus of the study is on short-term improvements primarily in Jersey City that need to be implemented as resources such as operating funds and equipment become available. This report describes the existing bus service in Hudson County and presents short- term recommendations for changes and improvements to the local bus system, both in terms of general and systemic issues as well as specific route-by-route actions. More than three dozen action items were identified to improve existing bus operations. These items range from route-specific service adjustments to providing for more ticket and pass sales outlets either by vendors or the installation of ticket vending machines (TVMs). -

Final Report New Haven Hartford Springfield Commuter Rail Implementation Study 2 Existing Conditions Chapter 2 Existing Conditions Summary This chapter is a summary of the existing conditions report, necessary for comprehension of the remaining chapters. The entire report can be found in Appendix B of this report. 2.1 Existing Passenger Services on the Line The only existing passenger rail service on the Springfield Line is a regional service operated by Amtrak. Schedules for alternatives in Chapter 3 and the Recommended Action in Chapter 4 include current Amtrak service. Most Amtrak service on the line is shuttle trains, running between Springfield and New Haven, where they connect with other Amtrak Northeast Corridor trains. One round-trip train each day operates through the corridor to Boston to the north and Washington to the south. One round trip train each day operates to and from St. Albans, Vermont from New Haven. The trains also permit connections at New Haven with Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (Washington to Boston) service, as well as Metro North service to New York, and Shore Line East local commuter service to New London. Departures are spread throughout the day, with trains typically operating at intervals of two to three hours. Springfield line services are designed as extensions of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor service, and are not scheduled to serve local commuter trips (home to work trips). The Amtrak fare structure was substantially reduced in price since this study began. The original fare structure from November 2002 was shown in the existing conditions report, which can be found in Appendix B. -

SEPTEMBER 2012 MANAGEMENT SUMMARY This report presents the results of an intensive-level architectural survey of 30 historic mills in the City of Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey. These 30 mills were recognized by Mayor Jeffery Jones, the Paterson Historic Preservation Commission’s staff and by industrial historians as representing a highly significant but largely underappreciated cultural resource directly associated with the expansion of Paterson when it was known worldwide as “The Silk City” during the half century dating from roughly 1875 to 1925. The “30 mills” survey was initiated by the City of Paterson with the expressed goal of identifying and surveying historic large-scale mills located in parts of the city outside of the Great Falls district. The project was funded by a Certified Local Government Grant-in-Aid from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Historic Preservation Office (NJHPO). This came in recognition by Mayor Jeffery Jones that these buildings should play an important role in future development plans and that they are an important cultural assets scattered throughout much of the city. -
