Don't make the same mistake I did -- the 4 GB version may seem like a good deal if you don't think you'll need a lot of space, but what they don't tell you is that some features REQUIRE an actual h ard drive. You might think that a gig is a gig and it shouldn't make any differ ence whether it's on a disk or flash memory, but to the , they are not equiv alent.

This means that unless you buy a hard drive (and it has to be one of the new 250 GB hard drives because the old ones are not compatible), you get no backwards compatibility with Xbox games, and some 360 games will arbitrar ily block you from some features such as playing online or even installing updat es or DLC, regardless of how much free space you have available. Basically, you can only use the internal storage (or a flash drive) to store full games, saves , or other media, but it's not the same as having a 4 GB hard drive. I wish som eone had told me this before I bought mine; I foolishly assumed that the feature s would be identical and the only difference would be the amount of space, but n ow I have to buy a hard drive separately, adding up to more than it would have c ost if I'd just bought the 250 GB model in the first place. Caveat emptor, inde ed.

The slim with 4 GB is what t he original arcade version should have been.
10 new features of this model are:
1. New Valhalla chip - hopefully improved design to prevent RRoD issue , but tech. reviews noted that the Jasper chip in the older Elite model runs coo ler
2. WiFi N - this is the newest wifi standard that is 12X faster (up to 600 Mbits/ sec) than wifi G; you'll need a Wifi N router to get the max. speed3. digital optical audio port (IF your sound system is separate from your TV , then you'll need this to get full 5.1 surround sound)
4. 4 GB of flash me mory (although 1.1 GB is used by the game system, but 0.3 GB can be reclaimed by deleting 4 game demos)
5. 5 USB ports (2 in front & 3 in back)
6. sli mmer design with side vents (to prevent overheating)
7. dedicated po rt (just a convenience feature)
8. only 1 year of warranty (the only negati ve; older Elite models had 3 yrs.)
9. USB flash drive support (this was a box update released in April 2010)
10. ESPN video streaming (will be included if you are a Gold member, $50/ yr)

Slim 4 GB memory vs. 2 50 GB hard drive:
I bought the 4 GB system over the model with 250 GB hard drive because the xbox now supports game saves/ installs/ downloads and pic/ aud io/ video downloads to USB flash drives. It supports 1-2 USB flash drives with 1 -16 GB memory (using a 16 GB drive, 1.6 GB is used for formatting). 2 advantages of USB drives: loading games and media is 3x faster with USB drives than disc r eading and more reliable (flash memory rarely fails, while discs can get scratch ed). 2 disadvantages of USB drives: you can not install old xbox games on USB dr ives and certain games, like Halo Reach and Halo ODST, will not support online c oop without a hard drive (having a USB drive will not help). If you have a big a ppetite for video downloads and game demos that 32 GB can not accommodate, then you can always upgrade later with a 360 GB hard drive. The original model's hard drive is not compatible with the slim model without modification - you would ne ed to remove the original hard drive and insert it into a slim hard-drive case ( non-, sold separately). You can find a non-Microsoft 120 GB drive for 1 /2 the price of the Microsoft drives, but you would need to manually install the \"partition 2\" xbox emulator (search google) to play old xbox games.

XBOX vs. PS3:
I am originally a PS3 and gamer, but finally bought the xbox when the slim 4 GB model was released. To be competitive with the PS3, the xbox had to have the built-in wifi, optical audio port, and USB flash drive sup port. I was deciding whether to buy another PS3 since many games require 2 conso les for coop and multiplayer gaming, regardless of what system you choose. With this xbox priced at $200, I decided to choose the xbox since it has better coop games and more online gaming. However, Netflix on xbox requires gold membership and starting a movie is a lot slower than the PS3 even though the xbox has faste r wifi. Xbox music and music videos library needs to expand to the size of their TV and movies selection to be comparable with iTunes. The PS3 has better graphi cs though not significantly better (expected since PS3 has a better processor), but the xbox has better coop and multiplayer games. The PS3 controller is better designed, better constructed, and has a rechargeable battery; the D-pad on the included creaked without even playing a single game. Also the PS 3 has a Blu-Ray player, which accounts for the small cost difference. The button to open the disc tray on the xbox is too sensitive and not recessed, so slightl y brushing it with your clothes will activate it.

Speed Comparison Up date:
The Witcher 2 game, which is highly recommended, inspired me to write this update. For the Slim 4 GB model, most game discs can not be installed to t he internal memory due to insufficient space. The internal memory is 3x faster t han hard drives, which is 3x faster than USB drives, which is 3x faster than dis c reading. The approximate speeds are: 270 MB/s internal memory > 90 MB/s hard d rive > 30 MB/s USB drives > 10 MB/s disc reading. NOTE: USB drives vary a lot in speed; check the speed and cost before buying - you get what you pay for. So lo ading a game installed on a USB drive is faster than loading it from the disc, b ut can be potentially 9x faster if installed to internal memory. The Slim model should be updated with at least 16 GB memory since a game DVD holds up to 8.5 GB of data, 1.5 GB is needed for system files, and 6 GB should be reserved for gam e saves and updates. With flash memory so cheap these days, Microsoft has no exc use to not increase the internal memory to at least 16 GB. I originally gave the Slim model 5 stars, but docked it 1 star for this issue since it's been more th an 2 years since this model was released.

Online Gaming & Media Shari ng Update:
I originally didn't mind paying for xbox gold membership since i t included Last FM music and ESPN video streaming, but now there are better musi c streaming service (Sony's definitely better) and the videos within each sports category are disorganized and poorly label so it's hard to find specific clips. So when I discontinued my xbox gold memberships, I found out that you can not p lay online coop games, even privately hosted ones, without at least one person h aving gold membership. Microsoft should at least allow privately hosted, online coop games to account for the lack of LAN support by most games. Also, the xbox' s support of DLNA media streaming from your computer is poor; you can not save y our media, only stream it. DLNA media streaming and sharing is flawless with the PS3. Microsoft's greed is evident in these 2 issues so I docked the xbox anothe r star to give it only 3 stars.

The best Xbox so far. The matte finis h, price, 4GB internal is plenty for game saves and some add-ons. If you want mo re memory, just add 1-2 16GB USB flash sticks. I use USB drives for game saves a nd full game installs. This way I never have to worry about IF the system breaks on me. I'll always have my personal saves on the flash sticks. I never trust ha rd drives as they are more prone to fail over a flash stick. Thats why I didn't keep the 250GB version. Plus I don't do demos so I don't need that kind of space . Matte finish does not collect dust and hair like the gloss version does which drove me crazy as I did own the 250GB version for a short time until this versio n came out. VERY HAPPY with the arcade.

This XBOX 360 is perfect for me. But a lot of people are complaining because the Halo nerds can't play certain levels on Halo Reach because of there isn't enough room on the Hard Drive... take a de ep breath, count to ten, and listen to me.

Alright This XBOX 360 on ly has 4 GB of space right???? Right, BUTTTTTTT YOU CAN USE FLASH DRIVES! I pers onnally have 2 16 GB Flash drives do the math that's 32GB + 4GB= 36GB of space p lenty for me. Not to mention you can delete and reinstall all you want on these flash drives. Oh and by the way 16GB is the maximum amount of memory per flash d rive and you are only allowed 2 flash drives plugged in at anytime. But again th at's plenty for me.

For instance. I play Call of Duty. Now game sav es take about couple hundred KB or so and even map packs take about 500 MB so th at's not that much memory. The real chunk of memory get taken up by installing g ames which makes the XBOX perform smoother and better.

Now me being a Call of Duty player. I am playing with one 16GB Flash Drive. I have COD MW2 i nstalled on it along with some games saves from it and other games, and my map p acks and it has 6.9 GB of space left on it. When Black Ops comes out alls I am g oing to do is delete Modern Warfare 2 off the Flash Drive. Install Black Ops and go take a shower or something while I am waiting for it to install and when i g et back Whaaaa Laaaa! and still plenty of room to boot. For those who like to bu y games off of XBOX live you can get them just as cheap if not cheaper used from Game Stop or used from Amazon. So don't waste your money on the marketplace hav e the disk. But it's up to you.

Anyway just real quick you can't ju st plug your USB Flash drive in and go. You HAVE TO FORMAT IT! Which will render it dedicated to the XBOX 360 and it will erase what ever is on it. That's fine for me because I don't use my flash drives anymore I have an external hard drive .

So with that said you insert your flash drive, go to \"System Set tings\" go to \"Memory\" you will see the flash drive go to it and format it. Af ter that you are good to go to use it! Done end of story I am out!

Having recently bought this box, I th ought I'd share some of my thoughts if you are trying to figure out which one to get:

1. Get the 4GB version. Don't even think twice about the 250G B hard drive version. You will probably need the 250GB but you don't need it th e first day. For less than $50 you can get an aftermarket 250GB drive that pops right into the bay on the box, and it works perfectly. You get everything you get with the 250GB version of the Xbox for $50 less.

2. The version with the Kinetic is great. One thing I love is the minimal number of plugs and wires. One wire from the Kinetic to the Xbox. One wire from the Xbox to the TV . One power plug for all.

3. I'm not a \"gamer\". I'm almost 60. I bought this for the Kinetic and the \"party\" game aspect. However, its an aw esome home entertainment hub. No kidding. We've got a lot of PCs and even a se rver. Setting up the ability to watch or listen to the content from somewhere e lse on the network is a breeze. The box also plays DVDs.

4. Kinetic is better than Wii. I've got a Wii, but I love the ability to do things withou t the controllers.

5. Xbox is fun for games. Yeah I'm not a gamer, but I like puzzle games and pinball simulations. Pinball FX2 is fantastic.

6. This is the best, most innovative consumer product Microsoft has come up with. No kidding.

I really thought I was buying \"another\" game console. Over the years I've bought a few. Usually I play with them about 2 w eeks, then they sit. After a while my partner, who teaches high school, takes t hem to school and the kids use them to play games at lunch time. The Xbox 360 i s different. It plays games, but it's a lot more. It's a home entertainment sy stem, it's a camera and microphone for internet calls on your PC, its a device t o access Netflix over the Internet. It's a different type of home PC with a lot of power, interesting features and the ability to render great graphic on your high definitions TV. Most products are over-hyped. The Xbox 360 is actually un der-hyped.

I am one of those guys who had an Xbo x 360 when it first came out. I like everyone else sufffered from the Red Ring of Death and had to send my unit back in for repair. That was probaly a year an d half to two years ago that it was repaired from the RROD. About 1 year ago, I started having problems where the disc player would not read the game correctly and I had to keep on opening the disc player and closing it over and over until it read the disc. Finally, the video card of the Xbox 360 seemed to just die o ut, i could no longer get a signal on any television, I even bought a new AV cab le with no success. Alas, I called microsoft and they wanted $100 to repair it. I decided to say screw that, so I bought a new xbox 360 with HDMI support. I hooked it up to my reciever and I started having some problems with the screen. I was now fed up with microsoft. I returned the 360 and decided to go PS3 all the way.

Well it turns out that on the second 360 i had bought (the n ew one) the problem was with my home theater reciever and not the 360. So while all my friends had fun playing online together on 360, I was left out with no f riends on PS3. ( I just dont know anyone online on the PS3). So my wife bought me this new slim model for my birthday and these are my thoughts.

WI FI - Found my network and connected with ease, wonderful feature.

HDM I Support - does not come with a HDMI cable, but you can get a cheap one on amaz on.

4 GB Memory - not exactly alot, but you can buy a 16 GB flash dri ve to put in one of the many USB ports. BUT...the flash card I bought had a sli ghtly thicker base and I could not plug it into the rear of the 360, so it is po king out of the front slot. So make sure you get a flash drive that is not too big.

Xbox Live - No card for free live for a month?

Headse t - No headset

Xbox 360 - the new model is sleek and beautiful. The disc drive is like a touch sensor which is really neat. This is soooo much more quiet than my old 360. I havent put in a major time yet but I didnt feel much heat coming off it which is a definite plus of course.

All in all, 4/ 5 stars, just because I thought microsoft was a little cheap with no headset, th e memory, and no free xbox live gold trial - especially since they are raising t he price.

First off, let's hope these new desig ns don't suffer any of the same (or new!) problems -- RRoD anyone?

Yo u have a few options in what bundle you get. You can choose between a 4GB and 2 50GB hard drive. Kinect will be bundled later this year with some other package s.

These pros and cons are really for comparing the new 360 S with th e older 360 models.

Pros:
- New sleek design. Smooth black mat te finish. Meshes nicely with my other A/V components.
- More vents. New side vent. Top and bottom vents seem to have a little more airflow.
- Qu iet. Runs much more quietly than the previous models.
- Built in Wi-Fi su pports 802.11 b/g/n. Mine connected flawlessly to my wireless router initially. I then changed it to work over Ethernet since I already had it wired.
- Additional USB ports. Five total - two in front, three in back. Easy to add ad ditional drives.
- Optical audio port added for those not using HDMI but w ant the better audio fidelity.
- Hard drive is internal - helping make the design smaller.

Cons:
- Bottom vent, if unit used vertically, completely blocked and very warm. Doesn't make me feel good using it in this po sition with all of the heat problems of the previous builds.
- No HDMI cab le included.
- No support for Blu-Ray. OK ... I know Microsoft doesn't wa nt to cozy up to Sony and pay licensing fees, but this would have made the 360 a complete system and could have really crushed PS3 sales.
- Still lacking in support for some codecs for playing video files, but this is more of a softwa re issue than hardware at this point.
- Runs hot. Not sure if the cooling is adequate but time will tell. With that said, my other A/V components can ru n just as hot but they never suffered the fate(s) of the original XBOX360s.
- Initial storage options are limited. 4GB or 250GB -- and expensive $ per gi gabyte. Better off buying your own non-Microsoft external HD.

All in all, it's an excellent unit for under $200. Some of the general features of th e 360: Compatible with all the old games as well as the new Kinect sensor (sold separately or bundled). It makes a very good media player that can play files f rom attached drives or your media server (PC) and has a Netflix application for streaming movies for those that have XBOX Live and a Netflix account.

Let me just start off by saying I'm i n love with the matte black that's on these 4gb arcades. I didn't want to get th e 250gb glossy Xbox 360 slim because I've had annoying experiences with my PS3 a nd how fingerprints and dust really are drawn to the glossy surface. This, thoug h, is perfect, especially if you're anal about things like that just like me.

This is the Xbox 360 that Microsoft should be proud of. It's everything that'll satisfy a new Xbox 360 purchaser, and if you've been holding out, now's your chance to see what all the buzz is about.

For $200, you're gett ing an amazing deal, especially when compared to the older \"phat\" models of th e Xbox 360:

- Smaller system, hence the nickname \"slim.\"

- Sleeker/sexier. I think this is pretty self explanatory. Just look at them bo th side by side.

- MUCH quieter. When Microsoft says \"whisper quiet, \" they mean it. Especially if you install your games so the disk doesn't even s pin.

- Extremely high reliability increase compared to the 5 year old phat models, and even the reliable Jasper phat models. This is because of the 45nm combined cpu/gpu die, which is dubbed the Valhalla chipset. Jasper mod el phats were renown for being reliable and breaking the dreaded 3RROD curse tha t plagued older models, because they used a 65nm chipset. This Valhalla chipset is even better. Not to mention that, just like a Mac or a PS3, the console will shutdown if overheating, preventing damage to the console. Mines is usually on 1 2+ hours a day and I haven't had any problems.

-Built in WiFi-N. Micr osoft finally added wifi to their console, and to make up for it not being in th e phat models, they went all out and made it wifi-N, which is the fastest wifi o n any console available today. About time!

-4gb internal flash memory , which can hold about 4000 game saves. It's enough for some DLC here and there and maybe an or two, but the best part is that it's a major upgrade from the original phat arcades, which only had 256MB of flash memory. This is MO RE then enough memory for a casual user, or a kid who only uses memory to save g ames. If, however, you want to do more like download a lot of things, you can bu y a standalone 250gb HDD around next month and simply slide it in. Technically, you'll have 254gb of memory if you do it that way.

- 5 USB slots. If you have a random USB lying around the house, just stick it in for more memory! 4gb flash memory and two 16gb cheap flash drives = 36gb of memory!

- Kinect ready, meaning it has a port in the back solely for Kinect. If you have a phat Xbox 360, you'll need to plug Kinect into a power outlet on the wall.

- Touch sensitive buttons, which is a neat bonus.

All in all, for $200, this deal can't be beat for what it offers. Whether you're looking to buy an Xbox for Halo: Reach or Gears of War 3, or want to try out Dance Central, or are buying it for a younger person for such games as Kinectimals, you're in for a treat either way.

Had product for nearly a year. Bough t 4G model and added HDD and Kinect later. As a gaming console it is fine. That 's not the issue. My problems: Product failed once after about 3 months, where m emory corrupted repeatedly. After long waits for support the resolution was to send out for repair (US Repair center is in southern Mexico). Took just over 2 weeks. My big issue is Xbox Live. It's bad enough you have to pay a monthly fe e just to access your Netflix account that is free on every other device. My tw o sons suddenly couldn't log in after an MS security \"enhancement\" (proofs). T ried resolving using Xbox Live web site but no luck. Called support, was told I would receive a callback in 9-15 minutes. I received the callback, only to have to wait on hold for an additional 10 minutes! Support tech was decent, but had to go through a long convoluted approach for each sons account (reset password on web site, set password on console, then set up \"proofs\" verification. The icing on the cake was where as a parent I had to approve sons ability to set up \"proofs\". It's not like it is optional, it is required now to do anything with the Xbox. To prove I was a parent I had to enter my credit card number, receiv ing a $.50 charge on my card, that a portion of which \"goes to charity\". I ha d to do this several times, because even thought transaction was approved the we b site has an error. \"What browser you using?\" asked the tech. Good old MS I nternet Explorer I told him. After 3 hours, several 50 cent charges on my card and then waiting 3 additional hours because the account got locked because \"pro ofs\" had sent too many codes to my email for verification (not my fault) the ac counts are working. I have never been an MS basher, but between what I've seen and heard of Windows 8, this recent Xbox experience, and what I've heard of I think they are in a tailspin.
My Xbox Live account is paid up through December. Might have to check out that new PS4 by then!

Microsoft wants $100 to look at it even though their software broke it

I never write reviews where I utterly despise the product but there is a first for everything I guess. I will try to be as fair as I can be though in my review of the xbox 360 slim. And I will make comparisons with my 3 year old chubby ps3- which still runs beautifully. And pl ease know that I am not a fanboy in the slightest. I really, really wanted to lo ve my new 360, but I just couldn't once I kept hitting technical snags along the way.

So here are the advantages of the xbox 360 (slim):

1 ) Dorsal vent: I like that I can just lay my 360 down flat and have a generous o peneing to allow the heat to come out. The PS3 has only side vents and really tr aps the heat. I don't like that.

2) Controller: I also like the ergon omics of xbox 360 controllers in general and prefer them to the PS3's. I don't l ike how the wireless ones need two AA batteries though, but I guess this could b e solved by buying genuine microsoft adapter/wire controller.

3) Size : The thinness is a real advantage considering all the computing power this mach ine has. I really am amazed how they got the sizing down. The PS3 is still big a nd squarish (PS3 slim).

4) Tech Support: Microsoft definitely wins in this department. More of an apple feel and my rep was in the US which was aweso me. Sony really falls behind when it comes down to their reps being informed and knowledgable in all areas of the PS3.

***But here are the MAJOR thin gs with the 360 slim and microsoft in general that made me post my 360 for sale and stick with my other console:

1) The price for Online Features/Gam eplay:
PS3= free for life, Xbox 360= $50/year or amazon's special of $35/ye ar or be lucky and live off of freebie offers. Either way, within a couple years you will have already paid for another xbox 360 just in LIVE fees alone. Even i f there are more online players on Xbox than PS3, I'd still rather spend $50/yea r on something else that I like. Plus when you pay for something that will run o ut, you feel obligated to make the most use out of it. This is especially diffic ult if you're a student and can only play every so often. But I always am feelin g that I need to \"get my money's worth.\" Probably not a big deal to some but i t sure is for me.

2) Online Experience:
Here's the deal. I got m ore drops from COD W@W during the gameplay on XBL (xbox live) than I did on PSN (). And I always kept hearing that XBL was so solid and relia ble. And you know, it probably still is. Perhaps it may be unfair to make judgem ent on an old game but I will say this: my PS3 has had no drops online when play ing COD W@W and that impresses me.

Furthermore the people on both sys tems. Playing gears and MW3 and other multiplayer games, I'm just sick and tired of the extremely rude, young and immature players that are on XBL. I know peopl e are people and you come across them on both systems, but I have had such a bad experience playing online on XBL than PSN that it actually is a point in itself in my review. It really annoys me. It seems like a lot of older/mature gamers a re on the PS3 and its really a nice change.

And lastly, when playing well known titles' multiplayers, I am so sick and tired of playing against playe rs on XBL that have those \"modded\" \"rapid-fire\" xbox controllers!!! I've see n them for sale on amazon, craiglist, and just about anywhere. Where's the fun/f airness in playing against that? Esp. when I'm paying $35-50/month for this mult iplayer feature! That's a reason in itself to pass on the 360 IMO.

2) HDD Expansion:
Can ONLY be genuine microsoft hard drive! I bought a 250 gb \"official microsoft drive\" (a hard drive in a special enclosure) off ebay tha t was 3x the price of a regular bare bones laptop HDD. Not only was it faulty an d I had to return it to MS for repairs, but it took 4 weeks to get back to me! I had a 60gb laptop harddrive sitting next to me the whole time (talk about ironi c). So I lost more money to expand the measley 4gb of this console. With PS3, an y 2.5\" laptop HDD will work. I was able to swap in a 500Gb 2.5\" HDD for under a $100. No \"genuine Sony\" bull-crap there. Look up the price for a 300GB 360 S lim HDD and you will not be pleased.

3) Game Discs:
Aside from t he graphics difference of the games (which some say the difference is negligible ) the xbox game discs get scratched very easily. There is not even a way to make playable backups of your games before they fail from so much use. With PS3, the games are on blu ray discs. Blu rays are known for their longevity and are extr emely scratch resistant layers. Therefore there would not be any need to back up a game. And my games also run noisely on my 360 slim, you can hear an audible n oise every time the disc spins. In the 360's defense though, I give mad props to the console for producing such high quality from a mere DVD. I have heard that many games are made for Xbox then ported to PS3 (So you won't see true PS3 poten tial unless you play a PS3 exclusive title).

4) Installing games on t he HDD:
Here's what I don't understand. Why does microsoft give you the opt ion to make a 6-7 GB game install on your HDD when you still need the game disc to play the game? \"To make it run better by relying on the disc less and more f rom the hard drive.\" I think its for copyright reasons. But my disc drive is st ill spinning just like before and the game has not improved from this feature. S econdly, why can't I install xbox original (compatible games) onto my HDD? They are becoming so now and being on dvd are very vulnerable. ...I think its a pointless feature.

5) XMB:
Xbox= advertisements for 3rd parties on many panels (videos, marketplace, social, etc.). I hate that. It's like getti ng an Iphone and having apple run ads on the bottom of the screen. Luckily this is only on the home screen and not on the loading pages of games.

PS3 = no advertisements. Just Playstation network-related offers and games on 1 pane l only- their Playstation network store panel. They are not trying to collect po cket change by posting advertisements from red bull or world of warcraft on thei r network. (Comebine THAT with FREE online access!)

6) Power:
I really don't understand the need for such a clunky power adapter too. It's like a brick. Sony just has a cable run down from the system and into the outlet. Sim ple.

7) Marketplace features:
I can't watch netflix or voodu wit hout a paid Xbox live active account. Simply having an account is not good enoug h. With PS3, you just make your account and because online access is free, you c an watch netflix or other programs (providing you are already a member of them).

8) Exclusives:
The 360 used to have the jump on the PS3 over ex clusive titles (it still does on its massive game library), but now Sony has com e back into full swing and has a much vaster collection of exclusive games that are more unique than the 360 ones. In fact, it is with these exclusive games tha t you can see the true beauty and potential of your PS3 unit. Also, there are a few big name titles that were once Xbox-exclusive and now have their sequels pro duced for the PS3 now. (i.e. Mass Effect)

All in all, I am really dis sapointed with Microsoft's xbox 360. I feel that I am always getting ripped off by Microsoft. If Im not paying for xbox live, I'm paying for AA batteries. If I' m not paying for batteries, I'm paying for games that are the same price as blu ray games. And when I refuse to pay for xbox live....those games I have that are known for online play....will be useless to me. Really bad purchasing decision in my opinion. Many who read this will probably think I am a \"PS3 fanboy\", but I've given my honest opinion. And I have written this review based on experienc e with the two consoles, so I am not spewing things heard/seen on forums where t he raging console battles take place. I am so frustrated with this money-sucking console and greedy MS corporation that I am never going to buy another microsof t console again. ...unless they come out with a Star Wars Knights of the Old Rep ublic 3 ^_^ only then will i shoot myself in the foot and grab the next MS conso le. lol

Let me start off by saying that I lov e the new Xbox 360 slim. Its design is great and it has several new features. Bu t I'm writing this to say that after about a year and two months of owning this console, (with occasional play) one day it suddenly stopped working. I can't pla y a single game because it will read it as a DVD. I tried about 30 games includi ng a couple brand new ones. They are all read as DVDs. This was really upsetting because it is a great console but it stopped working for me. I researched a lot of different ways of trying to fix this problem but none of them worked. I am p lanning on calling Xbox soon and see if they can help me.

EDIT: I cal led Xbox support and they walked me through several methods that were supossed t o fix my Xbox but none of them worked so they told me they could fix it for $129 .99 + labor and shipping fees, but I'm just going to get a new one off Ebay. All I need is a new console since I have all the cables and 4 controllers and heads ets.

We had a blast playing on our new Xbo x 360 for about a day.. and then it stopped recognizing disks. After running thr ough all the suggestions on the Microsoft website and reading through the forum, we discovered that this fairly common problem with the disk drive required a ma jor repair. Calling Microsoft was useless as all they could suggest was sending it in for a free repair (really? a repair on a brand new product that should be in peak working condition? yeah.. no) or an exchange for a REFURBISHED model in a few weeks (cuz you know, that's exactly what we wanted after paying full price for a brand new console).

Fortunately Amazon allows returns. Merry C hristmas. :/

First of all, I love this console. Th is truly is a steal at $200 and even more so with Amazon's occasional gift certi ficate deals. The black finish looks elegant and I've had no overheating issues what-so-ever like my last 360.

Obviously 4GB is not going to cut it. I did two things to cheaply resolve the problem. First, I plugged a 16GB USB thu mb drive in the back of the unit. This is now my primary drive and I don't reall y use the internal storage anymore. Honestly, 16 GB is plenty for most people. I also purchased an old Microsoft XBOX360 drive from the first gen consoles, crac ked it open, and plugged the bare internal drive in the back. It was very easy t o do. While the drive doesn't have a housing to keep it stable, you just have to make sure that your XBOX is somewhere protected where it won't move. The old dr ives can be found online for less than $10 during fire sales.

Edit: I 've had my console for 6 months.

I bought a XBOX 360 S last december, after a very disappointed experience with PS3, wich refused to read discs after a while. Xbox 360 4gb is perfect for me. I am a casual gamer, only 4 games. GT A4, Battlestation Pacific, Ace Combat and Red Dead Redemption. I play all of th en and I still have 3.1 gb left. Plenty of room. And the price very good.

This is seriously the biggest scam ev er. If your serious about gaming, Netflix, arcade game downloads, or anything el se you're planning to purchase this Xbox for, DON'T ! The 4 gig version isn't ev en catered for a moderate console user. After installing necessary updates for t he console itself and then required updates for only one multi-player game, the memory unit was already full. If you're planning on purchasing an Xbox360 consol e, than please do yourself the favor and get the 250GB unit!!! It may seem like a good investment at first, but you'll quickly realize that you will have to pur chase an additional memory unit if you hope to do anything. At that point, you'l l have already spent more than just purchasing the 250GB console in the first pl ace.

I purchased on of these in July. It is now, December, and my console no longer works, because EZCORP didn't check to make sure that the previous owner's account was gone. A fews days ago, a messa ge popped up on my console saying, "This console is no longer playable until your subscription payments are up to date." I never once had a subscriptio n on it. I contacted Microsoft, and they said they placed a ban on the console until the account holder cleared their debt to Microsoft. Now since this was no fault of mine, Microsoft said the company that sold it to me is liable for this . They told me to request a new console from EZCORP, and if they denied my reque st, MIcrosoft would have EZCORP investigated for selling tampered equipment. I h ave emailed EZCORP 3 times now, and have gotten no response. Don't make the sam e mistake I did. Don't buy from them. It's worth the extra money to buy from s omeone else to ensure the console will have no problems.

For the technologically people out th ere, this is an Xbox SLIM and it will require some sort of memory something. I was able to purchase the 250 hard drive at a local game store for $80. Once you have the memory unit (weather USB or hard drive), have fun with the gaming!" "result.9" "
At this point I think everyone knows what they're getting into when buying a 360. The only flaw to this over the orig inal is the touch controls on the front. They are hyper-sensitive. You can brush against the "open" button with a freaking feather and that thing is gon na open, if you do this mid-game then you can be pretty frustrated with it. Othe rwise this device is much better than the original 360. It's far more visually a ppealing.

I got this to replace my previous xbo x that just a month out of warranty got the usual red ring error. While I am go ing to repair it with the X Clamp mod, I ordred the 4GB slim model from Amazon.< br />
The case now has openings cut into it to let the heat out. Only took them how many years to figure out that heat was a major problem? There has bee n a mod out there for years that did the same thing.

If you are using wifi to connect, you dont have to buy a seperate adapter, its now included.

There are 2 things you need to know:

1.) The hard drive is d ifferent. The 4GB flash memory isnt enough to hold much. Rather than buy a new hard drive from Microsoft, I just used the hard drive from my xbox elite. Buy a $10 hard drive case on EBAY (Xbox 360 Slim Hard Drive HDD Case ) and remove th e hard drive from your old xbox (look on youtube for transfer xbox hard drive).< br />
I just did mine, it took all of 5 minutes.

2.) Both Amazo n and Microsoft advertise a 1 month gold live membership included. I didnt see it in the box I got, so amazon sent me another, and it was not there either.

After talking to an offshore microsoft support technician, I was transfe rred to a USA call center. I was told that you can ONLY use that gold membershi p if you create a new gamertag. I asked why that was not mentioned anywhere, we even went to their website and she could find nothing showing that it was a res tricted use 1 month membership. She then called it a trial membership, I asked her where that was in their advertising, and said that the word trial was not th ere, but thats what it is.

She would not credit me the month membersh ip as advertised, and only said that I needed to create a new gamertag to use th e gold membership. (class action suit anyone?)

Apparently Microsoft wants the buyers of the 4GB console to spend more money, because it will not play original Xbox games unless you also buy an overpriced Microsoft Hard Drive.
I bought the Xbox 360 slim console with 4GB memory, and while it plays the 360 games just fin e, it turns out I can't play non-360 classics like Halo2 or Fable, because a mes sage appears informing me that I need an Xbox 360 hard drive to play original Xb ox games.
There was absolutely no warning about this issue in the product d escription.
I contacted Microsoft's customer support several times to ask f or instructions on how to use a USB flash drive instead, and always the response was that I needed to buy a Microsoft hard drive.
It looks to me like a rot ten business practice, I want to play my old Xbox games but I should not be coer ced into buying more Microsoft products in order to do so.
What Microsoft s hould do is update the Xbox 360 system software so we can also use flash drives or external hard drives of any brand to play our original Xbox games.

I bought this console back in Novembe r 2010 right when Call of Duty Black Ops was released. The Gamestop I bought it at had no more 250 GB xboxs and i didnt want to travel to another store to get one so I ate the extra 30 dollars and bought a 250 GB hard drive for it as well. It is now the end of January almost 3 months later and the console has stoped reading any disc I put in. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it and did a numerous amount of research to see what others did with this problem and I know now that it will have to send it in to microsoft. I switched over from ps 3 and I would like to say that I want to go back to ps3 but I wont because all o f my friends have an xbox. So I guess Im stuck. I am seeing this disc reading e rror more and more in reviews of the new slim model so beware!

I just bought the 250gb xbox and glad I did! I had the old version with 12gb and never used any space. I was torn bet ween the 4gb and spending the 100 bucks for the 250gb. So I went with the 250 an d good thing, I loaded one game and it took up 5.8gb. then loaded netflix and it took up some space. So I plan on loading all my games on the HDD. If you are ju st gonna use it to save games 4gb should be way more then enough. If your gonna be online or xbox live get the 250. Hope this was helpful. Oh ps if your gonna d o the net flix spend the 14 bucks and get the remote!

the 4gig slim is not the same as the 250gig. lets get that out in the open. they boast the same features but the part s used are of different quality to construct the console. brand new out of the b ox ive gotten disk read errors, hard drive malfunctions telling my my downloaded games would not read. the hard drive is the legit microsoft 250g for the slim m ight i add. the controllers still have problems in the headphone jack. not to me ntion the top and bottom of the console casing is flat black plastic and not the glossy plastic. this is a thrift console and an unreliable one at that too. if you have the money get the 250gig setup. you get better parts in the console wit h the bigger hard drive.

I rarely give anything 5 stars, espec ially with Microsoft, but the Xbox is definately a winner. Set-up was effortles s. All I had to do was put in my hotmail username/password and wait about 20 mi nutes for the box to update the software. So far it's totally been worth the mo ney.

This box is actually a huge multimedia streaming device that jus t happens to play cool video games. With a Gold membership, I have access to my Amazon library, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and Internet Explorer. That's not conside ring that it can stream my music and ripped DVD collection from my desktop.

For cable subscribers, with a $100 cablecard device, you can have the cab le guy hook-up your desktop to Winows Media Center. This gives DVR functionalit y to your computer. The Xbox will interface with your computer and stream your l ive TV and recorded programs in HD. Did you know that Microsoft developed the s oftware that Cable/satellite companies use for total Home DVR? It's called XBMC (sound familiar?)and it's already built into the Xbox and Windows. With a secon d Xbox in another room, you can use the same interface to access live TV and rec orded programs from your desktop depending on how many tuners your cablecard dev ice has. Total Home DVR usually costs $50-$60 a month extra on your cable bill. Microsoft offers it as a free service. Of course, that requires a lot of band width, so you may want to consider upgrading your router or internet speed if it 's not very fast.

I absolutely love xbox 360, achieveme nts, the layout, the less loading time compared to their competition playstation . On the other hand, we have purchased 3 in the passed 5 years or so.... I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing the extended warranty, not buying a first or second generation of any console really. I love their arcade games, do not think they offer enough demos as their competitors playstation and hate that you have to pa y the price of a brand new , every year, just for online play, when Pl aystations is free. But considering all the cons to xbox, I still would highly r ecommend one.

I guess it would be alright if you ar e a first time xbox 360 buyer but if you are like me and had the old xbox you wi ll be disappointed. This 360 will not accept your 120HHD and there is no way to transfer data you have to purchase that seperate. This close to the xbox 1 comin g out I feel that it is a crock, when microsoft went from xbox to xbox 360 and y ou bought the new console it game with the necessary parts to down load you xbox memory and transfer it to the xbox 360. now to go from the xbox 360 to the xbox 360s(4GB) console you have to purchase the transfer cable. I would hope that wh en the xbox 1 comes out they will provide a means to transfer data from our 120H HD to xbox 1 without buying alot of stuff to do it I don't want to lose all the songs and so on and so forth that I have collected over the years. don't forget your long time customers microsoft and for the new customers or customers lookin g to upgrade system wait for the xbox 1 and remember what happened to the xbox w hen the xbox 360 came out microsoft quit making the xbox quit servicing the xbox and quit making games for the xbox. with xbox 1 coming out soon I fear the same thing will happen to the xbox 360 to force you to buy the new console

This is by far the worst console I've ever owned. My previous 360 (not slim model) didn't run this terribly. This 360 freezes CONSTANTLY. It freezes at startup, it freezes when you plug anything in to it, it freezes in the middle of games. It also is still unbelievably loud, ov erheats too easily, and the Wi-Fi dies a lot. Also, the controller that came wit h it broke within just a few months. Thanks a lot MS. Avoid this console, AVOID AVOID AVOID - save yourself the headache and just get a PS3.
" "result.2" "
Have to give this product a one-star rating due to the fact that it lasted only a little over a month. One day my te enager tried to play a game and it would not recognize a brand-new disc. Hubby found out through a fellow xbox player coworker that it was a manufactory proble m and not something the teenager did.

It was ironic it chose to quit on us when we couldn’t return it. For the cost it would be to send it bac k to have fixed my husband instead went out and bought another one for a hundred bucks, cheaper than the original price we paid for this one.
Our son reall y enjoyed playing the games he recently bought and had. Had it been myself I wou ld have been dissuaded from purchasing another one.

Arrived on-time and in factory-sealed condition.

If you already own the controllers from a previous 360 an d don't want any additional games included (or Kinect), this 4GB package along w ith a 250GB HD bought separately can be a smarter buy if your timing's right. Th e price on these (as well as the HDs) fluctuate so often that many people will e nd up getting a better bargain buying the 250GB bundle. The day after I got one of these, the price went back up another $15 and the 250GB bundle price went dow n slightly.

All that aside, I chose this bundle primarily for the mat te black finish (rather than the glossy) and, as an added bonus, they threw a bu nch of Xbox Live Arcade games on the 4GB memory drive.

My old Xbox wa s bought in '07 and served me well all the way up until this one arrived. It was really starting to show its age and was getting noisier by the day. This new on e is so much better, quieter... hell, even the games seem to run and look a lot smoother. If you're tired of listening to your old 360 croaking and whining, thi s is the upgrade to get.

I originally was searching high and l ow for a 250 GB Xbox 360 console. I had the option to order it online, but I cho se to go out to a store instead to be safe (I don't trust online orders if the a mount is high). I ended up visiting my local Target. The most they had was the 4 GB console. I was reluctant to purchase it at first, until I learned that I can buy a hard drive to add more space. I ended up purchasing the 4 GB console at T arget for $180 (this was the sale price when I went). I also got a $20 gift card on top of that, since it was offered at the time I went, which was a bonus for sure.

I then searched for a hard drive. I was going to get a 250 GB h ard drive, until I saw a 320 GB one with Lego Star Wars 3. I ended up getting th e 320 GB, since it was a good deal (only $100 at Best Buy at the time I went the re).

Overall, the point I am trying to make here is that it is well w orth it to get the 4 GB and then get a hard drive for it (preferably the 320 GB if you ask me, but it is up to you of course). I ended up spending a total of on ly $280 to turn my XBox 360 into a 320 GB console, whereas the retail price for the original 250 GB console is $300.

I would also like to add that th is XBox console is NICE! It is very quiet compared to the older models and the g ames play very smoothly. This console comes with AV cables, but I chose to not u se them. I instead use my HDMI cable that I purchased on my own a few years ago. This makes the picture appear more sharp and crisp, similar to a Blu Ray compar ed to a standard DVD. Also, I love the built in Wi-fi feature.

I was always a Ps2 animal; I hated t he XBOX mostly because I can't stand the Halo series (I hate first person shoote r games).
I decided to get the Xbox because I realized that more of the RPG and simulation games I like are on Xbox 360, and also the PS3 is way more expen sive.
Having played the xbox for about 12 hours (I got it yesterday) I am s o impressed. The graphics are beyond amazing(I have a 32'in TV) and there is no lag of any kind. Xbox Live also works well . I have played Tekken 6 and Mortal K ombat so far and it is just awesome. I never got this excited over the PS2. The only regret I have is that God of War III is not available for XBOX 360.
Bu t there are enough games that are available to make up for it.
I am going t o play Final Fantasy 13 and 13- 2 this afternoon, and I am so excited.

The price of the xbox 360 was also very reasonable (I got mine for $198.00 wit h tax and shipping charges).
At the stores I checked, it's still around $21 0-249 (Best Buy, Frys etc.).
I like doing online shopping so I buy all my g aming stuff online. So looking at Amazons great prices, it's definitely more rat ional and efficient to buy it here than at a store for anyone.

I stro ngly recommend this product to all who love gaming as much as I.

I wi ll update this review in the future if I have any problems.

thank you for reading.

great system, I also have the glossy 250gb version so I already knew what to expect. I bought this one for my bedroom to use as a windows media center extender and watch netflix on. It serves that purpose, but if you are a serious gamer I would suggest buying one with the 250g b hard drive.

I gave this product a 4 out of 5 star rating because there is room for improvement. Its all 5 star fun But If your goi ng with the 4 gig Xbox 360, its a great start. The price is very fair for the sy stem, and as a recommendation to all people new or hardcore to video gaming. You can play games off the disc just fine and have plenty of storage room for saved game data. But a big issue is if you intent on going online downloading games & videos frequently, you'll have to delete slash manage your space. DLC is now a huge part of the industry now. And some games are completely downloadable, thus taking up ALL the space your given. As a gamer I recommend the 4 gig for standar d games, DVDs, or some streaming APPs like Netflix offers. Other than that its j ust a stepping stone into Mircosoft's XBOX brand.

well i do love the xbox 360 i am olde r and just started playing the game system and was surprised that i do really en joy it but this system does not have enough memory to save almost any games i p lay so i would have done better to buy a system with 250 gig hard drive to begin with i had to buy another 250 gig hard drive to replace the 4 gig one and for the price i could have got a system with 250 gig and 2 free games for $20 more than then mine + hard drive but live and learn good luck and enjoy !!!!

The first time I wanted to buy a 360 was because of the best bundle being the Elite console was the best one with the best black matte finish and all of the accessories. Eventually i waited and got the 360s version with wireless 4gb. i saved some money because I bought a Like new hard drive. about 30 bucks of savings.

The pros is the number of games they have on this console. they have a vast selection with even s.( even though they are just cheap knock offs of other games. They started to r ecently make more new games \"On Demand\" with means you can buy the digital ver sion for maybe a discounted price. Which is great because....

My xbox cracks discs. I tried sitting it vertical and horizontal and all of my games i have purchased (Used and new.) have cracked. I tried looking up forums on it but no avail. But probably cause its a cheap disc reader.

Another con is Updates for the xbox games. If i need an update for a game it will not tell me till i pop the game in and it shows me. If i do not remember this step before I go to my parents house with my brothers. It will NOT let me use any of the Down loadable content that I purchased for the game. Since they have no internet i wa s left with Resident Evil 5 and reverted to its original edition rather than \"G old Edition\" (Which means 15 dollars worth of content is withheld from you unti l you update, even though you are not online.

The best fix for this i s alerting you on start up about the update, then asking to download them automa tically, or a download list so you can insert your discs and update them manuall y.
This have happens o me so many times because of some terms that make no sense.

The hard drive that i bought was nice but the lack of usb inse rt so then i can upload music to it is a minus since they overcharge it by 30 bu cks. I believe you can use your own hard drive but you can not have back wards c ompatibility.

The S Console was great but Microsoft spend too many ti me and wasted efforts to not having wireless connectivity and better components to let it run cooler and better.

Oh yeah and the sensor buttons only make things worse because of the fact you can reach over the Xbox and accidental ly touch the eject or power button.

It would be great if they made it like the Ps3 previous buttons and you would have to hold your finger there for 2 seconds, in case of accidents.

The games are a bit overprice but th ey are making more sales on dlc and \"Gold Exclusive\" Sales to keep on racking in the money even though they started to put advertisements on Gold Members that pay 60 whole dollars a year for Netflix and online gaming. (Also various other apps)

Instead giving it second chances but the One year warranty is r idiculous for a system of covered fixes.

I think I'm going to buy a W iiU and never give Microsoft money for their sub par product and lame franchises .

Plus the Home menu sucks.

I had an original 360 and never got t he Rrod. The new model run's hotter sooner then the old 360 BUT it doesn't get a s hot as the old one and it has a much better and quiet ventilation system. The new touch to open/activate features is ok i don't like or dislike it but i have had no problems with it. One thing i don't like is the power brick is LOUD. I he ard it and didn't know what it was at first. In hindsight i would have bought th e 250 GB model but oh well. It is a great console and I love it.
" "result.5" "
I caught this system on sale on black friday and am very happy with the Xbox over all.
However...I originally pu rchased this Xbox thinking 4gb would be plenty of space. I was wrong. First I tried a 16gb flash drive but that wasn't cutting it. I ended up getting the 250 gb hard drive. You need the hard drive to use the Xbox to it's full potential. I like not worrying about deleting things I don't use to make sure I don't run o ut of space. I have tons of Demos and full games on the Hard drive and have use d less than half of the memory.
If you catch the HD on sale it is still che aper than buying the 250gb system.
" "result.6" "
Slim can still whirr a little loudly if the machine's run a long time, but otherwise, it's about as loud as your aver age computer. I like the super responsive power and eject buttons (and they chim e! So moderne! ;). You just have to graze your finger over them, and voilà ;! Also, Slim hardly takes up any space. I like the two USB ports hidden in the front, and if the XBOX isn't recognizing your FAT32-formatted external HDD, you' ll want to try those ports. Your previous 360 controllers should work with this. Everyone else, just make sure you pick up a cheap HDMI cable online. :)
" "result.7" "
Know on the front end - if you want t o use this as a digital media hub, and not just a local gaming platform, you wil l be paying additional fees to do so. What doesn't really make sense to me about the XBox is, unlike every other device that I've purchased, Microsoft demands y ou pay the toll to do anything other than play an offline game or purchase conte nt from them. While I've been really pleased with the console's performance as a gaming machine (one of the few things microsoft has really ever done right), wh y should I have to pay them an extra $10 per month to use subscription services I'm already paying for (like Netflix), especially when XBox Live really has noth ing to do with and incurs no costs for the Netflix service.

I underst and charging to maintain quality services, and if Microsoft needs to do this to enable multiplayer gaming, so be it - at least that I can understand. But it see ms really greedy to limit what the console will otherwise do just because one ha sn't paid the Microsoft tax.

The point is, be aware of this when you get the console. If I were a committed gamer who played regularly, I would pay f or it willingly. But I game sparingly and mostly use my XBox as an entertainment device, and in this case the extra fees just seem ridiculous when you've alread y paid for the device and other services since Live fills no entertainment role on its own.

Seriously, you need the hard drive. I thought I could do without it, but I wasn't able to download any new content su ch as DLC's or map packs, and when I played games like Skyrim, it took ages for the game to load any new place, even if it was just through the door into a smal l cottage. I thought it might have been something else, but once I got the hard drive the game was a lot faster to load stuff. But the 360 itself is great! Xbox live is a fantastic service that has yet to get hacked, unlike the Playstation network, and it's becoming really social with things like Kinect, and facebook c onnectivity. There's also an amazing game selection, that beats those of every o ther game system at the moment. You may not have Bluray like with the Playstatio n, but there's really no need since I watch most of my content through Hulu+ and netlfix instant which both stream to the xbox.

So, many (not all) XBOX (origional) g ames will play on the XBOX 360. However, I found when I bought this that I coul d not play them until I bought a hard drive. The games would not run just havin g the internal 4GB space. So anyone who is wanting to play their old XBOX games needs to get an external hard drive. The 360 is a great console. If you get c omponent or hdmi cables (not included) you can display your games in 1080i or 10 80p. Games look amazing! One downside I found with the 360 however was that if you want to use netflix you have to subscribe to xbox live (paid subscription). I use my PS3 for netflix and it's free so I found having to subscribe to xbox live just so I can use netflix pretty lame. Other than that, great console!! K eep in an area that gets plenty of air circulation however because these console s put out tons of heat.

I've been an xbox fan since the first day it came out -- mostly due to my love for the Halo series. But honestly the new Slim console has a great new look, the new WiFi is very handy, useful featur e and it is working without a flaw, and the new price point is perfect. Also, yo u don't need to get the more expensive consoles to go on xbox live! Just buy an old 360 20GB hard drive, open it up, and pop it in this console's sata port. Sav e yourself 80 bucks. Search for the youtube video on it!

I purchased the Xbox 360 Slim 4GB as a replacement for an Xbox 360 Pro 20GB I had purchased in 2006. The Pro gave a red ring of death, so I set about finding a cheap and reliable replacement. 4GB is not much storage space and some content requires a hard drive. I followed a bit of advice to circumvent this issue. My old 360, now defunct, has a detacha ble 20GB hard drive, which when unhoused can be plugged directly into the hard d rive port on the Xbox 360 Slim 4GB. I don't know if the 60GB version has the sa me type of connector. Videos describing how to do this are available on youtube , but I'll briefly describe it here. Using a flat screwdriver, pry open the pla stic hard drive casing. Inside you will find the hard drive within a metal casi ng, which can itself be opened with a small torx T8 screwdriver. Once you've go t it out, open the hard drive hatch on the side of the Slim and visually line up the SATA ports. Push lightly until you hear a click. The old hard drive will now appear in the list of storage devices, content stored there is accessible, a nd it has the Microsoft logo beside it. I assume this would alleviate Xbox Live issues that pop up when you don't have an official Microsoft hard drive, though I haven't tried it myself.

The Xbox 360 Slim 4gb Console is grea t as any Microsoft Fan would think.

The are many PROs and CONs. I'll list them for you.

PROs:
-Great Selection of Games
-Fast an d easy to use
-Can play for a long time before overheating (My friends and I played for 5 hours straight so I should know)
-Light and easy to move
-Awesome Graphics and Sound Quality no matter the TV.
-Gets the party sta rted :)
-Kinect Ready: No wires other than included with Kinect needed to c onnect
-Parental Controls-Can limit your child's gameplay and etc.

CONs:
-No Hard Drive, only internal drive 4gb. I reccomend a hard drive if you like all the benefits of games, movies, and original games on the xbox 36 0
-Costly XboX Live 59.99 FOR A YEAR THROUGH AMAZON; Only 33.99 through Das hboard Shop :)
-Popular Games range from $39.99- 59.99
-Only a DVD pla yer drive, if you want a Blu Ray Player I suggest the PS3. A Blu Ray player rang es from $99.99-249.99 and the PS3 is 299.99 if you want a Blu Ray player and a g ame console the PS3 is definitely a catch.

I just got the xbox 360 an d I honestly love it. Leave me some feedback and comments on what you think
" "result.3" "
Pros:
- WiFi is easy to setup an d works great; no lag whatsoever
- Ability to use 3rd-party flash drives to save and install games is awesome
- System runs cool and quiet when games are installed to storage device and system set on side
- Graphics look grea t on my 720p HD TV with HDMI cable (not included)
- Xbox 360 Dashboard feat ure is very easy to use

Cons:
- Artificial cap of 16gb on flash drives (up to two allowed) is lame
- System can get quite loud when running certain games from disc drive
- Advertised one month trial of Xbox Live Go ld is a bit misleading (see remarks below)

Remarks:
Many reviewe rs have said 4gb is not enough storage space or that they can't play all the mod es on Halo Reach. I could give a crap about Halo, but if you want to play co-op on this game you can't without hard drive (flash drive doesn't work). The questi on is if 29gb is enough storage space, because with 2x 16gb flash drives that is the most you can use. I would have liked it if Microsoft removed the cap or at least raised it to 64gb so I could just use one 64gb flash drive with good read/ write speeds, but I guess Microsoft isn't ready to get out of the hard drive bus iness. Other than that flash drive works great and it easy to transfer profiles from system memory to drive. Have 2 games, some DLC, and 2 profiles installed wi th about 1.3gb left on a 16gb, just to give you an idea. If you want to install a lot of games to hard drive or get a lot of videos and DLC, you might want to g o with the 250gb model. Also, on most sites (not just Amazon) the product descri ption states \"in the box\" there is a one month trial of Xbox Live Gold include d. This is not completely true. After inventorying and checking components, I to re the box apart looking for the one month card and found nothing. After some Go ogling, I found that the one month free comes with creation of a new Live accoun t. If you import one from GFWL or from a previous console when you upgraded, you are out of luck. I had to create a new account using my secondary email (had a GFWL account) to get the month free. If it states it is in the box, then there s hould be a card or code for everyone not just first time Xbox Live users. Other than these issues, I am very happy with this product and the price point can't b e beat! Hope this helps and happy gaming!

A Review of the Xbox 360

I n November of 2005 the world was shocked when the first seventh generation gamin g console, Microsoft's Xbox 360, came out. This brought many innovations such as better graphics, more memory and the best online play offered at the time. Even today the online play is the best in gaming, with its good servers and lessened lag. For this reason the Xbox platform is the most used console in the world. T he online plays name is Xbox Live; this brings the newest and most exclusive dem os to the users of the Game Marketplace. Xbox Live also brings great application s like Netflix and ESPN to the Xbox with a low or no fee. All of the different m odels have this feature of on line play. The model that came out in 2005 was wha t is known as the Classic. The classic had four models the Arcade with 4GBs of m emory, the 20GB memory model and the 60GB memory model. There were many models i n-between these two but for sake of time these are the most important. This next console was the Slim. This console was basically a console with a sleeker newer finish and shape that gives it a space age look. It also includes better ventin g, hardware, and graphics. It's really worth more to any gamer than the classic.
One of the downfalls of all the Xbox 360 models is they use the inferior D VD. The DVD can't hold as much data as the much better Blu - Ray discs of the Pl ay Station 3. This was caused by Microsoft's fear that the PS3 would sell more c opies if it was released before the Xbox 360, so they sacrificed the graphics fo r more sales. In most eyes that's greed and it is. The one benefit of DVDs are g ames and the consoles are cheaper to produce and are much cheaper than the PS3 c onsoles. There are many ups to the Xbox. For example it has some of the best gam e series that are exclusive to them like the Dead Rising, Halo and Left 4 Dead s eries. Another good thing about Xbox is simply its layout. It has sleek smooth l ooks and a very ergonomic and comfortable controller. Nothing could look or feel this good. To conclude the Xbox 360 is great and in most ways superior to other consoles. It's simply the best.

At first I was very cautious when I h ad heard Microsoft was releasing a new console, Given the fact that the first fe w versions they put out didn't do any hard upgrades people were looking for. I'm a hardcore gamer at heart and when my last Xbox died out I was pretty pissed of f (2nd Console I had gone through). After doing some research about the new cons ole it's quite apparent what Microsoft has done here has greatly improved their market and for gamers such as myself. Granted a lot of the features the new slim model has should have been out when the product first shipped out many years ag o.

But none of that matters now...The system is actually more quiet t han previous models, Integrated wireless is a total bonus and then some, My Xbox doesn't sound like a jet is about to take off when loading up; everything as a whole sounds really smooth and as far as I can tell no heat issues yet. I was a bit miffed that there wasn't an Xbox Live Gold card inside but I guess thats the brakes for the 4GB Version. Other than the obvious very low amount of GB its st ill a very solid system and you won't be missing out on anything the 250gb alrea dy has.

If you don't currently have an Xbox 360 and are looking to ge t into the swing of things this is a good place to start, with Halo: Reach aroun d the corner you don't want to be caught without one. Even if you have the older models you will want to highly consider upgrading, Its well worth the investmen t!

ok, i traded in my old 360 which was loud and glitchy (dont get me wrong it was a great system, but it overheated in my apartment way too much) and used that money to buy this new 4gb 360 S. overal l, a huge improvement. what people say is completely true, however, you may want to know about a few things. the first thing that i did was transfer my data. th is does not have 4gbs, when you first get it it has 2.8 and once the included de mos are deleed it is around 3. enough for me. also, if you have ever played mode rn warfare 2, you kow about this next part. when you turn any game on (this only applys to xbox live users) any game you put in will disconect you from live to update the game. this was a problem for me because i was in a party with friends who were hoping to upgrade to a slim console. next, the system does not come wi th HD cables, however, it is compatible with old 360 cables. the power cord from the old 360 is not compatible with the new 360, do to the new, power saving, in ternals. also, not a complaint but an answer to a common question, the internal memory is not a hard drive, but a memory unit. therefore, origional XBOX discs ( Halo 1, halo 2) are not compatible. neither is ripping cds. however you can down load music to a usb flash drive and play it on your 360. finally, they do sell 2 50gb hard drives for the new 360 so dont let the lack of memory dissuade you fro m buying this. Overall i am completely satisfied with the new 360 and recomend i t to newcomers and upraders alike. ps, the controller is somwhat newly redesigne d too.

i had my xbox for just about half a y ear when it started telling me it couldnt read the discs. this seems to be a com mon problem with this model. you are better off spending the extra money to get the 250 gb console.

Let me begin by saying it was great w hile it worked. They have the best online play out there. However, my xbox worke d like it was supposed to for a year and 3 months. Then the open tray error bega n..I'm conveniently right past my 1 year manufacturer warranty and Microsoft ins ists that I pay $100 to send it in and have it fixed. I just bought this!
< br />My works and worked since 95. Guess I can get 2 decades out of some systems but not 2 years from something made in todays time frame. Its a sh ame.
I have to beat on my xbox for it to play nowadays and 9 times out of 1 0, IT STILL DOESN'T WORK! Meanwhile if I break into it and attempt to fix it mys elf, they wont fix it for me. I did some thinking and realized that most success ful electronics companies are successful by staying in their lane: meaning they stick to hardware OR software. NEVER BOTH. Only one that does both is Apple and they were nonexistent from 90 till early/mid 2000s. BUT ANYWAYS point is, I now know what to expect with hardware from Microsoft and I have learned my lesson.
Think about it: our smartphones may rely on Android to power it and be the operating system but motorola, samsung, htc remain the manufacturer of the device. Without google, the samsung instinct would still somehow be considered a smartphone. Whenever Google decides to manufacture a phone it ends up horribly. Windows is the software, while HP, dell, or Asus remains manufacturer.

I honestly thought the ring of fire/death issue was over and done with, but I see that if it's not one thing, its another. I gave them a chance, but back to Sony I go!

BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Bought brand new, stopped working aft er 2 months, does not power on. could be power supply, could be unit. no clue. a nd I hardly use the darn thing. the environment is cool, free and plug ged into surge protector. googled the problem saw dozens of people with same and similar problems and microsoft acts like it's not their problem.

als o have wii and ps3 and never ever had any kind of hardware issues. why is it alw ays xbox that has these kinda quality control, substandard hardware crap?
< br />if you have bought one of these and had no problem (yet), good for you, but i'm not going to recommend it. lots of titles on other platforms incl. PC.

buy only if you're willing to risk problems and headache. wish i could ge t my money back..

This is my second 360, and I still lo ve all of the exclusives. I bought my 4GB Xbox 360 S along with Halo:Reach afte r my old 360 stopped reading discs, and I'm pretty angry about the co-op/firefig ht limitations. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Anyway, just be advised that R each/ODST and all original XBox games are unplayable without the 250GB HDD that slides into the bay... which pushes the cost of this XBox over the glossy model anyway.

PRO:
Smaller
Slightly quieter though still loud
Arguably good value
Best game library
Best online experience
CON:
Not compatible with all 360 games
Still a big external power supply
Need HDD but older XBox 360 HDD don't work without taking apart thei r cases

If they patch or address the Live issues, this could be a 4 o r 5 star product.
" "result.1" "
As of this writing, Halo: Reach is no t properly programmed to address the 4GB of flash memory inside the Slim. This means that any co-op (Campaign or Firefight) will not work. Until a patch is re leased (who knows when that will be), go with the 250GB version.
" "result.2" "
While so far my copy works great and I have no hardware problems with it. I do want to mention one major problem with this system so others won't make the same mistake I did. If you buy this versio n and not the 250gig one, you won't be able to play coop on Halo Reach, or firef ight on ODST. If you aren't into halo games this is a great deal, but otherwise your better off buying the 250gig one, because it'll cost you an extra [...] buc ks to get the hard drive separate.
" "result.3" "
I'm not a first time X Box 360 owner. I bought one of the first generation 360's back in early 2006 and it was an obn oxiously loud, hot and cumbersome console. I used it for about 2 months before i sold it to a friend at half the value i paid for it. (About a month later he ha d to send it back to Microsoft for the RROD)

Since i've recently quit playing World Of Warcraft, i figured it could be fun to purchase a console and get back into video gaming on console. Since i didn't really know anything about the PS3 and i have had previous experience with the 360, i figured i'd give tha t a shot again (it was after all, an entirely revamped system with improved feat ures, or so they advertised).

The overall look, finish and functional ity of this new slim system was pleasing to me. I loved the sleek, smaller and a ngular black look the slim had and i noticed right away that it was far quieter than the original model was. The touch activated power and cd tray buttons were a pleasant surprise, and most importantly the integration of WiFi (and an intern al, rather than external hard drive) was something i was grateful for after havi ng difficulties configuring and managing an internet connection via a wired rout er on my old 360. I'm not really interested in storage space on a system since i prefer the convenience of my computer over a console for that purpose. The 4 gi gabyte hard drive was sufficient enough space for my needs. The price was also g reat at 200 dollars (being a walmart employee, the grand total for me ended up b eing $179 which is even cooler!) so i was completely happy and content with my p urchase.

That is until exactly 2 weeks down the road it completely de cimated my COD MW2 disc. I came home from work one day and thought i'd play a li ttle MW2 before going out of town on a trip i had planned, and when i was notifi ed that my disc was unplayable, further inspection showed 2 parallel grooves alo ng the bottom of the disc which the console had conveniently worn in, rendering the disc useless unless i forked out the cash for a resurface. Since i'm not in the business of dealing with a system that becomes a financial liability, my onl y option was to return the system and fork out the extra cash on a PS3 slim (for which i am eternally grateful for :D). I was also unable to connect an HDMI cab le and the AVI cable it came with (which i plug into my stereo for sound) withou t purchasing a special cable for that purpose (more money? no thanks..)

Pros: Small system, very affordable, ergonomic and comfortable controller, ae sthetically pleasing design and color.
Cons: System body feels very fragile , X Box Live membership costs money (PSN costs none), inability to connect both standard AVI cable and HDMI cable without purchasing extra hardware, it ate my d isc :(
" "result.4" "
While this is my first Xbox 360, I ha ve used older versions as well. This one tops them all. It gives the most bang f or your buck. That's all there is to it. For 200 dollars you get the new Xbox 36 0 S which has more features then it's predecessors, is smaller, quieter, and run s cooler.

Pros:
-Built in Wifi allows me to connect to my comput er hard drive to play music pictures and videos from my PC's hard drive
-Sm all size makes it convenient and out of the way
-Kinect ready if I every fe el ambitious enough to get it.
-extra USB ports for wired controllers/flash drives
-Optical audio out ports

Cons
-not really any.
The 4gb flash memory may be considered a con to some people, but the Xbox 360 S hard drive will soon be sold separately (I'd estimate by the holiday season, an d I'm never online so I don't download demos or dlcs. And with the built in
Wifi to read my PC's hard drive why would I need memory? And you can indeed sav e games to a flash drive.

All in all, this was the best $200 I've eve r spent. Great product. Keep it up Microsoft!

Have spent dozens, maybe hundreds of hours, dealing with the myriad problems I've dealt with this machine since 1 mon th in, when I got the dreaded but all too common red lights of death and had to send it into Microsoft. I'll just list all the problems:

1) Red ligh ts of death a month into ownership, after not having so much as scratched it and with moderate use. Talked to Microsoft then had to send it into them. Took 2 months for them to send me a refurb replacement.

2) from the moment I got the replacement, my game discs would not load correctly one third of the ti me, for which I have to eject disc, manually reposition, then re-insert.
3) Halo 3 map pack which I purchased separately not loading, except for one day (7 on the 7th for those who played Halo 3) of the month. After hours of try ing to figure out problem on the phone with MS reps, no resolution.

4 ) Xbox controller sticky analog shift only 6 months in, still no fix

5) Windows media player unable to sync

6) Not all codecs for Video Pl ayer downloading

7) Netflix requiring you to manually input your user name and password each time you log in because I used a different Netflix accoun t to log in initially (this only happens on the Xbox). Extermely annoying.

8) LOUD fan. So loud I finally had to put it behind my bureau and cover/s urround it with blankets, pillows just so the noise which is still loud is bearab le. Then it overheats and I get one red light of death (only one Microsoft?)

Each of these problems required scouring the Internet for possible solu tions, talking to MS reps on phone, then physically attempting to fix the proble m if applicable. MS reps are completely oblivious, takes at least half an hour to wait and have to explain the problem before they even understand what the pro blem is. In addition, when my Xbox Live subscription expired they attempted to do a bait and switch by first offering me 1 month for $1 and then another year f or $20 on phone, I learned later it was $30 and they of course had no record of the conversation and talked as though *i* was the one who tried to ip them off. No joke.

I've given up playing games and at this point I just wanted something to watch videos and video apps on my TV. Because of above problems, I can't.

I will have to buy a PS3 very soon.

For not only t he money but of equal importance the time, energy and stress i spent on the myri ad problems, i strongly recommend against buying it, as 54% - yes, more than hal f - of all Xboxes malfunction. And that's not counting the smaller problems lik e map packs not loading or Netflix requiring you to log on each time that will c ause you endless hassle.

I will never buy an Xbox again, whether this generation or the next.

Have only owned this machine for over a year and that's

I bought this in order to use it as a home multimedia center and for my girlfriend to play Kinect games. I must say, we both felt ripped off. First off, Microsoft makes it so one must pay for a G old Membership (an annual or semi-annual fee) to even access Netflix on the Xbox ! Keep in mind, this fee is on top of the fee you already pay to Netflix for th eir service. We got a good deal on the Kinect accessory and some games at a loc al store and I had an extra SATA laptop hard drive lying around so we went with the 4GB version. What I soon found out was that, although Microsoft is using a standard laptop SATA hard drive inside an extra case of plastic for the Xbox, th ey use a proprietary file system format on the hard drive. One can format their hard drives to work with the Xbox, but the Xbox will only allow a max of 16 GB to be used for games per hard disk or flash drive unless one pays for the overpr iced proprietary Xbox hard drives (that come in a max size of 320 GB even though drives many times larger are available for computers these days).

As for the Kinect, this add-on device is not all it is hyped up to be if you have a small living room. It is a pain trying to get the camera to pick up one's mot ions or see most of one's body.

Instead of the Xbox, we are sticking to hooking our laptops up to the TV using HDMI and plan on using the Microsoft Xbox 3 60 Wireless Controller for Windows with games. There are much fewer b oundaries this way and so many more possibilities!

The 4gb xbox is great if your not int o hard core gaming or want to use the system to store your videos or music. The point of this xbox is to allow people to afford multiple units. Also this system is priced to allow people to use kinect without spending a fortune. I'm more in to using the system for gaming but since it actually has less than 3gbs of memor y I attached my external hard drive. Although its a 250 gb hard drive, each port only allows for 16gbs. This is still more than enough for me. I suggest buying you xbox elsewhere though; I got mine from Walmart, w two games (Mass Effect 2 a nd Modern Warfare 2), 3 months online, 1600 , for 249.99. Shop a round and enjoy you xbox! It's a lot better than a PS3, haha. Overall though its a great system. I still have the other xbox, it gets the red ring about every o ther day but still come back to life after a minute or two. they have made huge improvements over the old 360. I'll post a comment if I find any problems.

I have an older 1080i HD television s o i should have read the specs a bit closer because this came with standard defi nition cables only. It kind of sucks when you open the box, put your game in an d it looks like crap. Who still uses standard cables, why not ship this with Co mponent HD cables? My old 4GB Xbox 360 had them so what's up with that? You ca n get them for 2 dollars on Amazon not including shipping so it's not too big a deal. I just can't play movies now because i have a huge dark box in the middle of the screen, games play fine though.

I like the built-in wireless, no more cables across the living room floor. Super quiet, no loud fans to drow n out with the volume, i've gotten complaints because i live in an apartment. T he case plastic has a cheaper feel to it compared to my old 360 and feels hot to the touch after it's been running.

It plays my games fine so I'm hap py with it, i just think they should have included a pair of the old Component c ables.

Almost immediately after we bought th e XBOX 360 it started having problems with not entering into the profile menu. Over a number of months it slowly started to get worse where we would have to sh ut down and restart the console 15+ times before it would even let you choose yo ur profile. When it showed the XBOX logo it would just hang there endlessly nev er loading. Finally, we had enough and sent it back in under warranty for repai r. They had it for about three weeks before returning it and then we got it bac k it worked the first time we tried it, but then the same exact problem occurred making me wonder if they had fixed it at all. After two days of continued prob lems we called XBOX and requested an entirely new console. The only thing they could do was have us send it back in while they sent us a refurbished machine. We have now been without the console for a almost a month and half, which is una cceptable for a console that has been out for a long time and I feel that they s hould have all the bugs worked out of it by now.

I am a stingy guy, I like to save mon ey and I have been waiting for a long time for the prices to come down on Xboxes so I could get one. Since the new Xbox is coming out soon, I decided that now w as the time. The seller was great and it got here within 4 days of me ordering. That was likely the longest 4 days of my life. But, it was a brand new Xbox, jus t like they said, and it got here quickly. Great and trustworthy seller.

Be ready to spend at least spend 25 b ucks on flash cards or doing a lot of hard drive shuffling for games you want to play considering this 4gb version isn't even enough to install some arcade game s. People that upgraded from the older version and have a 120gb hard drive, it' s useless now, so you can sell it or take it apart and put it in your computer. I donated the cpu brick to a modder. Also considering a 16gb flash is 10 bucks how did xbox manage to cheap out and get 4gb? OBVIOUSLY to rip you off because you NEED MORE, and they will sell you a regular old laptop hard drive in a case for 2x the price. They anticipate this, not honorable.

Another warnin g: This console is practically useless without buying the 50-60 dollar gold mem bership per person, per year. No your children will not have separate accounts unless you want to pay over 100 for family packages, ripoff! You do need a cred it card and they will hold your numbers hostage until your membership runs out, even though you paid. If you get a physical card, you still need to put in a cr edit card now. Be aware, auto renewal will be set to ON and you will have to man ually turn it OFF.

This console starts at 180. Add 50 for gold member ship, add 25 for flash drives, add 40-60 for a 2nd controller(especially if you plan on playing skate), add 60 for new game that will have 60 more dollars in dl c the next day. Make sure to buy rechargeable batteries and charger. NOT the b attery packs they sell, they are junk batteries that hardly last(probably 1200 m ah) but still sell them like it's high quality. Wired headsets will break EASY and those are 20 bucks. CHEAP CHEAP junk sold as quality!!!

Kinect w arning: Xbox does have the ability to remotely connect to kinect as well as fac ial recognition and product recognition. This data is captured, and sold. They can even use you or your childrens video captures of them playing on a commerci al if they want! Creepy guy working at xbox probably watching me right now. Not really bc I wouldn't ever buy a kinect.

Last warning. My 120gb elite only lasted 2 years. Due to an error made by xbox and auto renewal I have 2 ye ars left of the service but no machine to use it. TBH I should have just taken that loss and quit falling for this insane money trap that consoles have become.

To sum it up I really liked my time with xbox. I know my post doesn 't sound like it but I guess with good friends anything can be fun for awhile, e ven if your all getting scammed.

I paid full price for a new Xbox cons ul and expected it to be of better quality and last much longer than it did. My xbox's warranty expired and suddenly it won't read any discs. I have tried sever al options recommended for fixing this problem and none have been successful. Xb ox online services recommended that I send my Xbox in for repair, which will cos t me more than $100. Microsoft fooled me once with their cheap product. However, I will never purchase any more of their products in the future and will never r ecommend Microsoft products to my friends or family. Please think twice before p urchasing Microsoft's cheap, overpriced products. I hope people who have had sim ilar experiences will share them, so that others won't waste their money.

I love the Xbox. Unfortunately, I lea rned too late that this version does not work with some games. From what I now k now, all of the classic Xbox games will not work as they require a hard drive, a nd this unit does not have a hard drive, it has a "memory unit". Also, e ven some Xbox 360 games may not work with this unit because they also require a hard drive. You can buy a hard drive for it and add it in, but it will cost more than just buying the 250gb Xbox.

I would say that it's my fault for not doing my research, but I called Xbox technical support before I purchased an d they gave me incorrect info. It wasn't until I received the product and hooked it up that I found out that the tech support was wrong. A few hours of talking later and I finally got to a girl who knew what she was talking about and inform ed me of the bad news. All four reps I spoke to at Microsoft told me that I shou ld take advantage of amazons return policy and return it so that I could get my money back and get the 250gb version, but I felt like that was a bit dishonest a nd that Amazon should not have to pay for Microsofts mistake of telling me incor rect information. I was surprised at how all four agents felt like screwing Amaz on was the appropriate solution to their mistake though. Awesome.

Functions well and games are well pro duced. The console is noisy when reading game disc. Cheaply built compared to PS 3 and Wii
Easy to damage game discs or disc reader or hard drive. After ma rket hard drive functions well. Customer service variable - can be unreliable. T his is my third unit, the first was serviced 3x under warranty then failed again . Second unit destroyed game disc while rejecting it, hard drive failed - repla cement microsoft sent didn't work. Now on 3rd unit and treating it like fragil c rystal glass.

For the price, the console works fine , but space is a big issue. 4GB is just not a lot of room, and you automaticall y use 1.7GB just getting the console up and running.

I ended up havin g to buy a separate hard drive, which retails for $100. So basically I did not save any money. I hate to love you Microsoft!!

I know people are saying you'll need more space, but you can always buy a harddrive later along the road. The harddri ve doesn't even have to be from Microsoft which is about 100 dollars. I bought m y 250GB harddrive for $45 right here on Amazon (Non-nanmebrand). Anyway, in term s of fun, it does what it says it's supposed to do. BUY IT. BUY IT NOW!

My old 360 finally went out, so I dec ided to go ahead and spend the money on this new one like I had been meaning to. The new things I noticed: motion activated power and disk eject button, the sli m black design, and it is wifi capable. Other than that, it's still a 360.

Then later I noticed it only has 4G, so I looked up the price of the 'new' Xbox 360 hard drives and wanted to punch myself in the face.

My old original Xbox 360 finally bit the dust, after 4 years of faithful service. I bought this console as an afforda ble replacement. The new slim models run so very quiet, almost the only sounds y ou will hear are the sounds of the disc drive \"seeking\". I hope the reliabili ty is much improved over the last few Xbox designs, but only time will tell. As for now, it runs pretty cool compared to my old Xbox 360, is incredibly quiet, a nd has wireless capability! The 4 GB memory is internal flash memory, so you can not install games like if you had a HDD. But a cheap 16 GB flash thumb drive wil l work just as a HDD would! I love this console. I own all of the video game sy stems from the Atari 2600 till current, and the Xbox 360 has been my favorite by far! Xbox Live is a very good online multiplayer service, and is worth purchasi ng....trust me! (you get 1 month free Gold Membership) The new controller has b een redesigned with better D-pad function, and the sticks are tight and responsi ve. The matte finish on the plastic looks good when it's new, but I noticed you can scratch it, leaving darker marks on it pretty easily. Buy a 16 GB flash driv e with your Xbox 360 4 GB and you will be a happy camper! Otherwise, you \"can\" take your old original xbox 360 HDD apart and it does indeed then fit right in to this new console. I did that too, and is much cheaper than buying the HDD Mic rosoft says you have to have for this console! If the reliability issues are ind eed fixed, this will be the king of the consoles.....period!

Just got my new 4GB Slim a few days a go and added a WD 320GB Scorpio Black hard drive to it so I'm good to go!
< br />I must say comparing this console to my Jasper & Falcon systems ... it's re ally quite. You can't even hear the optical drive spinning when loading a game onto the hard drive ... now that's quite! It's also smaller than expected which is nice ... hopefully that doesn't cause any overheating problems. It looks li ke the ventilation slots should provide more air flow through the case keeping t hings nice and cool. I really like the extra USB ports on the back and the opti cal audio port was a nice surprise but I felt it was unnecessary since it alread y has HDMI. Overall, it's a really clean, quite, sleek design and I'm hoping it 's a reliable one too!

As for the warranty ... mine says 90 days for the console .... not a year ... so either Microsoft is really confident in the n ew design or were getting screwed big time ... lol!
